Chapter Six: The President Obtained the Marriage Certificate?

Seeing Huo Hanshen sitting inside the car, Xu Xu looked surprised. “Why are you here?”
Huo Hanshen didn’t respond immediately but stretched out his arm to open the front passenger door.
“Get in first.”
Xu Xu felt this wasn’t the best place to discuss the matter, so she got into the car.
Once the car started moving, Xu Xu asked again, “Didn’t you say you had something to do?”
Huo Hanshen looked at her deeply. “I do have something to handle, but I realized there’s something even more important.”
“What is it?”
“Getting our marriage certificate.” Huo Hanshen said this while steering the car around a corner.
These words completely threw Xu Xu off.
Why was he in such a hurry?
It was as if he was afraid she would regret it.
Xu Xu couldn’t help but look him over again. He was very handsome, even better looking than that scoundrel Huo Yunzhe.
Surely, he wouldn’t have trouble finding a girlfriend.
So, why was he so desperate to marry? Could it be...
“Mr. Huo, you...” Xu Xu hesitated before continuing, “Do you have some kind of illness?”
“Screech—”
Huo Hanshen slammed on the brakes, the tires screeching harshly against the pavement.
Xu Xu was jolted forward by the momentum but was saved from hitting anything by her seatbelt.
She looked at Huo Hanshen, bewildered, thinking that maybe she had hit a nerve.
“My health is fine.” Huo Hanshen laughed bitterly, truly not expecting Xu Xu to think that way.
Moments ago, he almost stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake.
The car stopped in the middle of the road, and Huo Hanshen pulled over to the side before slowly moving closer to Xu Xu.
Startled, Xu Xu shrank back only to find herself cornered by Huo Hanshen’s seat.
“W-what are you doing?” Xu Xu’s eyes widened, tension rising as she faced the man so close.
Could he be so angry that he was losing control?
“You doubted my ability, didn’t you? Well, tonight, Miss Xu, you can experience firsthand whether I’m capable or not.”
Huo Hanshen raised an eyebrow, his breath brushing against Xu Xu’s earlobe, causing her neck to flush crimson with embarrassment.

No, no way. He wouldn’t do something like that here in the car, would he?
Seeing Xu Xu’s expression, Huo Hanshen felt his mood brighten. He stopped teasing her and sat back, releasing her.
“The reason I’m in such a hurry to marry isn’t just because of pressure from my elders.”
Huo Hanshen restarted the car and drove on. “Besides that—my daughter urgently needs a mother.”
Huh!?
A daughter?
Xu Xu looked at him in astonishment. “You have a daughter?”
“Yes.” Huo Hanshen remained calm. “So, Miss Xu, if you have any regrets now, it’s still not too late.”
Xu Xu fell silent, lost in thought.
She hadn’t expected to suddenly become a stepmother right after a quick marriage.
But thinking about what had just happened, she bit her lip instinctively.
“I don’t regret it.” Xu Xu said abruptly, her expression cold. “Let’s go to the civil affairs bureau now!”
She had made up her mind to sever ties with the Xu family and Huo Yunzhe.
There was no room left for regret!
Hearing her reply, Huo Hanshen smiled faintly and headed to the civil affairs bureau.
More than ten minutes later, standing inside the empty bureau, Xu Xu’s face showed a hint of puzzlement.
“Although I know the marriage rate is low nowadays, I didn’t expect it to be this dismal...”
She looked around, muttering softly.
In the vast civil affairs bureau, apart from her and Huo Hanshen, there was no other couple applying for a marriage certificate.
What Xu Xu didn’t know was that the entire bureau had been cleared out!
At this moment, the bureau chief sat quietly in the certification area, sneaking glances at Huo Hanshen and Xu Xu from the corner of his eye, utterly thrilled!
My goodness! He was the first person in the entire city of Z to see the president in person!
Not even the mayor had met him!
As Huo Hanshen and Xu Xu approached, the chief took deep breaths to compose himself and maintain a proper demeanor.
He couldn’t make a bad impression on the president!
And the president’s wife!
He was definitely the first official in Z city to know what the president’s wife looked like!

He would personally handle the issuance of the marriage certificate for President Huo and the first lady!
If this went smoothly, his future prospects would be boundless.
With that thought, the civil affairs bureau chief smiled even more warmly.
Xu Xu noticed the middle-aged man handling their paperwork, his attire exuding an official air, and felt even more disheartened about the current marriage rate.
Tsk, tsk—if even officials had to personally process marriage certificates, it showed how bleak the bureau’s workload was.
“Still smiling so brightly at work? Looks like we’re the only couple here to get a marriage certificate today.”
Xu Xu looked at the kindly smiling chief and couldn’t help but sigh.
The process wasn’t complicated, and soon the chief had completed all the formalities, with only the wedding photo left.
Eager to make a good impression on President Huo, the chief took it upon himself to handle the photography.
This only confirmed Xu Xu’s impression of the bureau’s desolation—there were so few staff that one person had to do multiple jobs.
Now, Xu Xu and Huo Hanshen sat in front of a red backdrop, seemingly a bit uncomfortable, with enough space between them to fit another person.
“Is the first lady shy?” The chief preparing to take the photo chuckled to himself. “Well, now it’s my turn to help.”
Clearing his throat, he gently reminded, “Miss Xu, please sit closer to your husband.”
Xu Xu quickly nodded and scooted a little toward Huo Hanshen.
“A little closer.”
She moved a bit more, but before she could settle, Huo Hanshen’s long arm reached out and pulled her into his embrace, their bodies pressed tightly together.
“You...” Xu Xu exclaimed in surprise, but Huo Hanshen released her naturally.
“He said to sit closer,” Huo Hanshen replied calmly.
Xu Xu could only swallow her words and turned to face the camera.
“Try to look more intimate, please,” the chief smiled and reminded again. “Like looking at each other or holding each other.”
Xu Xu shivered at the thought but decisively chose to look at Huo Hanshen.
He turned his head to meet her gaze.
One lifted their chin slightly, the other lowered theirs—
And their lips met perfectly!
