Bai Lu spoke softly and gently, her delicate figure swaying like a willow in the breeze, which would naturally evoke a sense of affection in men.

However, apologies, in front of her stood three women—her same gender—and her demeanor stirred not the slightest ripple in their hearts.

But Bai Lu never sought the favor of Li Xiaoxiao and her two companions; her true target was Li Jian from her own team.

Bai Lu’s appearance was pure and delicate, fragile and pitiable at first glance. She resembled the ethereal love interest in a domineering CEO novel—always elusive and distant, making the man yearn for her yet never quite able to possess her.

Li Jian had known Bai Lu before the apocalypse. From the moment he first saw her, he was captivated and had been pursuing her ever since. Yet this woman was like a slippery fish, impossible to catch no matter how hard he tried.

When the apocalypse struck, he awakened his earth-elemental powers, and shortly after, Bai Lu drew near him.

But once Li Jian gained his abilities, his ego inflated, and when he looked at Bai Lu again, he deemed her ordinary, unworthy of him—merely a plaything.

Bai Lu was not oblivious to his change of heart, but she was not easy to manipulate either.

Especially now, holding a trump card in her hand, she regarded Li Jian merely as a stepping stone, investing little genuine feeling in him.

She understood men—and understood even better how to maximize her benefits in front of them.

“What do you mean by ‘nothing else’? Looks like you’re just full of salt and bored!” Lin Shuangshuang rolled her eyes and gave Bai Lu a once-over.

“And you, are you alright? This is the apocalypse, not a ghost movie. Wearing all white—are you preparing for your own funeral? Need me to wail for you a bit?”

Lin Shuangshuang once had a classmate just like that—always dressed in white, delicate and weak, speaking in a sarcastic, two-faced manner.

She had no fondness for such people then, and even less now.

“You!”

Bai Lu was taken aback. She only said a casual remark, yet Lin Shuangshuang spoke to her like that.

Suddenly, she staggered, almost losing her balance and falling sideways.

Li Jian quickly reached out and caught her; Bai Lu instinctively leaned into his embrace.

“Come on, stop faking it! I’m eight feet away from you, didn’t even touch a strand of your hair! You’ve got no grounds to blame me!”

Seeing Bai Lu like this, Lin Shuangshuang immediately took a large step back, hiding behind Li Xiaoxiao.

Those words landed sharply, and Bai Lu’s face flashed between pale and flushed, looking quite unwell.

“Tsk tsk! See? I told you she’s unwell. Look at that complexion—it's awful. It’s the apocalypse, the hospital is full of zombies, no cure for her.”

“Alright, cut it out,” Lin Qiu said with a smirk, pulling Lin Shuangshuang aside.

Li Xiaoxiao’s eyes remained fixed on Bai Lu. This woman was quite tolerant, but the murderous intent in those eyes was almost tangible.

Beneath her hood, Li Xiaoxiao narrowed her beautiful eyes, a faint smile curling at the corner of her lips.

What if she killed this so-called protagonist right now? What would happen?

But just as the thought crossed her mind, Li Xiaoxiao’s left eye twitched violently. A sudden, inexplicable sense of panic compelled her to turn and grab Lin Qiu and Lin Shuangshuang, fleeing immediately.

“Boom!”

“Thud!”

Something heavy crashed down nearby. The impact shook the ground beneath their feet, making Li Xiaoxiao even more unsettled, quickening her pace.

They ran over a hundred meters and only stopped when no sound followed them.

Lin Qiu and Lin Shuangshuang were panting heavily, hands on their knees, their hoods long since blown away by the wind, hair tangled and wild.

Turning back, the three saw a massive boulder had crashed down heavily where they had just stood.

The steel canopy above was also shattered, a large hole gouged through it!

“What the hell just happened?” Lin Shuangshuang was so shocked she could barely speak, eyes wide in disbelief.

Lin Qiu patted her chest, still shaken.

If Li Xiaoxiao hadn’t run fast enough, the three of them would have been crushed into meat patties.

Li Xiaoxiao stepped closer. The boulder looked ordinary on the surface, but upon closer inspection, faint metallic luster shimmered through the veins.

[Host, host! A meteorite has fallen from the sky! Hurry, collect it—don’t let others get it!]

The system’s excited voice echoed in her mind.

Li Xiaoxiao raised an eyebrow. Meteorite? The dagger Bai Lu used to kill her in her past life was made of meteorite, wasn’t it?

With a thought, she immediately stored it in her spatial pocket.

Then, she looked over at the others.

Bai Lu appeared somewhat disheveled, but even more so were the others in her team.

Two members were missing.

Lin Shuangshuang’s sharp eyes caught sight of several flattened bodies lying in the huge crater where the boulder had landed. One of the bodies’ clothes seemed to match the girl who had argued with her earlier.

She tugged on Li Xiaoxiao’s sleeve. When Li Xiaoxiao looked over, Lin Shuangshuang subtly nodded toward the pit.

Lin Qiu had already covered her mouth and moved aside to vomit.

Having just adapted to the presence of zombies, facing such mangled human corpses was overwhelming for her.

Lin Shuangshuang, however, after an initial wave of nausea, didn’t react much further, which made Li Xiaoxiao glance at her again.

After all, this girl had thrown up so violently the first time she killed a zombie that she was nearly fainting.

“What happened here?”

Not far off, a group approached. Li Xiaoxiao recognized them.

It was the armed squad she had encountered yesterday at Xingmei International.

The leader was a man with broad shoulders, narrow waist, and long legs, though his face was painted with camouflage, obscuring his features.

The group numbered seven, all with painted faces, including one woman. Though similarly adorned, her figure was unmistakable.

As they drew near, the leader’s imposing presence intensified.

Bai Lu’s team, originally five, now had only three remaining: Bai Lu, Li Jian, and a very skinny man.

All ordinary people, they naturally shrank back in the face of such power.

Bai Lu’s eyes gleamed as she looked at the leader, even stepping back silently to distance herself from Li Jian.

Li Xiaoxiao recognized this man—Huo Hongyu—the only dual-elemental ability user in the Liaocheng Refuge, wielding both lightning and darkness elements. He belonged to the military. She recalled Bai Lu had apparently pursued him before, though she didn’t know if it had gone anywhere.

In her past life, Li Xiaoxiao sought only revenge and paid little attention to such matters.

So these two had already hooked up this early?

Li Xiaoxiao cast a glance, then turned away, signaling her mother and Lin Shuangshuang to leave.

She had more important matters to attend to; there was no time to waste.

“Is there a spatial ability user among you?” Huo Hongyu asked immediately.

They had come upon hearing the earlier rumbling and had also seen the massive boulder.

Only a large crater remained on the ground, clear evidence of a spatial ability user.

“That would be me,” Bai Lu stepped forward, boldly admitting to being a spatial user.

Huo Hongyu frowned at Bai Lu, sensing she was not the person he was truly after.

He glanced at Li Xiaoxiao’s retreating figure with an indescribable expression.

Since the military had arrived, Li Xiaoxiao planned to check out other places.

After all, they had already gathered most of the resources here.

“Xiaoxiao, shall we head over there?”
