Prologue
Earth, 2032.
After a long period of anticipation, the first generation of biological assistive chips—an invention that filled the hearts of all neo-humans across the world with joy—was finally born.
This so-called biological assistive chip, which employed embedded genetic technology, could perfectly integrate into its host's body. It fully mobilized the host’s inherent abilities, optimizing and reallocating them as needed, assisting with work, study, and leisure activities.
Of course, to prevent the chip from becoming overly intelligent and thus overshadowing its host, this first generation did not feature complete artificial intelligence, but only offered basic data storage and analysis functions. It was designed to help the human brain accomplish those tasks that would otherwise require immense and exhausting calculations, thereby lightening the host’s cognitive burden.
As one of the 50,000 lucky individuals selected worldwide, Li Xun was fortunate enough to be among the first to experience this marvel, receiving the biological assistive chip he had long dreamed of.
At home, Li Xun opened the packaging and took out the chip—a device that had inspired boundless envy among his friends.
To be honest, with the rapid advances in technology, the so-called biological assistive chip was nothing like the old-fashioned implanted crystals; it was now a milky-white sphere, no larger than a capsule.
After swallowing the sphere, Li Xun lay flat on his bed as instructed, patiently awaiting the outcome.
Inside his body, the sphere broke down into even smaller biological cells, slowly permeating his life systems, embedding itself into fragments of his genetic code, and thus merging completely with him.
Very soon, the biological assistive chip took over some of Li Xun’s senses, becoming an indispensable part of his existence.
However, while the rest of the world’s participants were busy marveling at their rejuvenated sensory experiences, Li Xun—the consummate data enthusiast—was preoccupied with connecting his chip to the internet.
Yet just as he prepared, brimming with excitement, to revel in the thrill of a data deluge, the moment the assistive chip made contact with the vast and unprecedented data streams of the new era’s information network, the furious tidal wave of data instantly overwhelmed Li Xun’s fragile consciousness.
