“If it was someone from Xu Li’s company who committed the crime, what kind of people do you think they might be?”

Once again, Xia Wuyou, in her Holmes persona, arranged to meet Su Tianmu at a café.

To outsiders, they looked like a couple in the throes of romance, but for them, this was nothing more than a routine work meeting.

“I believe it’s more likely to be someone from senior management. After all, as the chairman, it’s difficult for him to interact with lower-level employees.”

Xia Wuyou found Su Tianmu’s analysis reasonable and nodded vigorously.

“You’re right! Ordinary people hardly ever meet those high-level leaders. Take me, for example—I’ve been working at the company for nearly five years, and the highest-ranking person I’ve ever interacted with is our department head.”

She sighed, feeling a bit like a hero with nowhere to prove her worth.

Su Tianmu looked at her sympathetically, thinking that although she seemed ordinary, she was brimming with energy within.

“Maybe you should consider changing jobs,” he said earnestly.

“Or, you could quit and work for me,” he suggested suddenly, startling Xia Wuyou.

“Quit? Work for you? What are you talking about—are you planning to hire me as your detective? With your salary, you probably can’t even support your wife, right?” She burst out laughing, dismissing his idea as sheer nonsense.

She never would have guessed that if Su Tianmu wished, he could buy out their real estate agency without much trouble, let alone hire a private detective.

Of course, Su Tianmu wasn’t entirely motivated by the investigation; deep down, Xia Wuyou already held a place in his heart, though even he didn’t quite understand what that meant.

“I’m actually not joking,” he murmured, lowering his head when he saw she didn’t take him seriously.

Following Xu Li’s account, the investigation into the company’s staff was proceeding meticulously.

“Xiao Wang, check into Cai Fengnian’s recent activities. See if there’s anything suspicious.”

“Yes, Captain Su.”

Xiao Wang had just returned from visiting Xu Li’s company.

“But during our visit today, we discovered something new.”

It turned out that just as Xiao Wang and his team arrived at the company’s entrance, they witnessed two security guards forcibly escorting a young man out. The young man appeared to have just been expelled from the company and was visibly agitated.

Upon inquiry, they learned his name was Cong Xin. He had been dismissed for violating company regulations, and feeling unjustly treated, he had repeatedly come to the company to protest the decision.

“Did you manage to reach him? Did you get any details about the situation?”

Su Tianmu was anxious. This kidnapping and murder case had caused a stir throughout the city, and pressure from superiors and the public was mounting. So far, not even the suspect had been identified.

“We haven’t had time yet. We rushed to the company to check Cai Fengnian’s schedule…”

Before Xiao Wang could finish, Su Tianmu stood up, grabbed his coat, and headed out.

“Wait for me, Captain Su!” Xiao Wang hurried after him.

“Don’t be nervous. We’re just here to get some information.”

Finding the young man wasn’t difficult; Su Tianmu quickly made contact.

Cong Xin, seeing the two police officers before him, looked somewhat flustered.

He was only disputing with the company; surely this didn’t require police involvement?

He asked hesitantly, “Officer, this is just a civil dispute, isn’t it? It doesn’t count as a criminal case, right?”

Clearly, he had some grasp of the law.

Su Tianmu nearly laughed; his first impression was that Cong Xin couldn’t possibly be linked to the kidnapping and murder.

“What grievance did the company inflict on you? Tell us—we might be able to help.”

Procedures had to be followed; since they were there, they’d find out the facts.

“Oh, so that’s it.”

The young man relaxed and began to pour out his story.

Cong Xin recounted his experiences at the company from start to finish.

He was a new employee, just three years in, diligent in his work. His dismissal was triggered by a confidential contract leak.

“Honestly, I was just following our department head’s instructions, delivering the documents to the client. I really had no knowledge of anything else!”

“Why do they think I leaked the information? Why did they have to fire me?”

The more Cong Xin spoke, the more agitated—and angry—he became.

“Are all rich people so domineering? Does money mean you don’t have to be reasonable?”

Seeing his agitation, Su Tianmu sensed that things weren’t so simple.

Ordinarily, dismissing an employee shouldn’t require the chairman’s approval—yet Cong Xin claimed it was Chairman Xu Li who personally ordered his dismissal.

That didn’t make sense.

“You said the chairman ordered your dismissal. Have you ever met your chairman?”

Su Tianmu asked seriously.

“Of course not! Someone of that status wouldn’t meet small fry like us.”

The more they listened, the more something felt off.

“How can you be sure it was a direct order from the chairman?”

Xiao Wang also noticed the inconsistency.

“Our department head said so! He told me he pleaded on my behalf for a long time, but it was no use—they insisted on firing me!”

Cong Xin was still angry.

“There’s nowhere to argue! I worked hard for three years—it was all for nothing!”

He was so furious he began cursing.

“What’s your department head’s name? Which department are you in?”

“I’m in sales. Our department head is Wang Bo.”

After interviewing Cong Xin, both Su Tianmu and Xiao Wang suspected there was something wrong with this department head.

According to Cong Xin’s account, the leaked contract was actually prepared by Wang Bo himself, yet he shifted the blame onto Cong Xin once it was discovered.

It was almost certain Wang Bo had lied about the chairman personally ordering Cong Xin’s dismissal.
