Chapter Fourteen: Preparing to Plunder

Chen Tong followed the others into the village. From a distance, Black Wind Village appeared like a pearl concealed within the embrace of the surrounding mountains. Xie Qingshuang walked up beside Chen Tong, his eyes filled with familiarity and affection for the land, and said, “Brother Xie, this is Black Wind Village.”
Chen Tong slightly tilted his head, surveying the surrounding peaks with curiosity before asking, “Chief, the village has an unusual name. Why is it called Black Wind Village?”
A faint smile curved Xie Qingshuang’s lips as he spoke slowly, “It is said that long ago, fierce winds howled here often—winds so wild and fierce they were likened to black beasts, sweeping uncontrollably through the forests and mountains. People standing in the wind would be blown off balance, so terrifying it earned the place the name Black Wind Village.”
“Later, as the world plunged into chaos with wars raging and oppressive rule heavier than tigers, some who sought to escape the turmoil and tyranny heard of this remote, concealed place. One by one, they came here and gradually formed the village we see today.”
Chen Tong nodded thoughtfully, his gaze wandering through the village. Black Wind Village was nestled among mountains, the dense forests forming a verdant shield. At its heart lay a relatively flat expanse dotted with simple houses.
“This place is well-hidden, easy to defend but hard to attack—a perfect refuge,” Xie Qingshuang added.
“Yes, for this reason, it has become a temporary sanctuary for the people of Black Wind Camp,” Chen Tong replied.
“The villagers are mostly honest and kind-hearted. Though life is harsh, they remain united.”
As they spoke, they walked deeper into the village. The villagers greeted them warmly.
Chen Tong settled into Black Wind Village as a teacher. His refined appearance and humble manners quickly won the villagers’ goodwill.
Spring quietly approached, the earth awakening, and the fields filled with the scent of fresh soil.
The corn and wheat seeds Chen Tong had purchased from the system were finally ready to be sown.
However, from planting to harvest, a long time must pass.
During this period, Chen Tong had no source of income to exchange for system coins, which troubled him.
After careful thought, Chen Tong decided to explain the situation to his companions.
He gathered everyone together and said solemnly, “Brothers, we have planted seeds, but the harvest will take some time.”

“Meanwhile, many tasks still depend on my ‘Divine Power,’ but using this power consumes a great deal of energy, which means we need everyone to provide offerings.”
The crowd murmured among themselves.
Having already tasted the benefits of the food Chen Tong provided, they trusted his words.
An eager bandit asked, “Master Xie, what kind of offerings do you need? Just say the word, and we’ll find a way to get them!”
Another bandit chimed in, “Yes, Master Xie, don’t keep us in suspense. We’re all with you!”
Chen Tong smiled faintly and said, “What I need are copper coins, not silver.”
“Given the current times, using silver for offerings is not cost-effective. Copper coins are more suitable.”
“Besides, I think we should continue with our bandit ways!”
At these words, the quiet assembly hall erupted into lively discussion.
Whispers spread, faces showed varied expressions.
Xie Qingshuang furrowed his brow, his eyes filled with concern.
“Brother Xie, I understand you mean well and want to quickly solve our troubles, but this plan is very risky.”
“The government has always been watching us closely. The previous incident already enraged them. If they learn we are kidnapping wealthy merchants, they will hunt us like rabid wolves, intensifying their crackdown. Our hard-won peace will be in jeopardy.”
Iron Bull scratched his head, looking simple and earnest.
“I agree with the chief. I’ve started to get used to life here in the village and don’t want to return to fighting and killing. If we provoke the authorities, I fear it will bring trouble to all of us.”
Some bandits found themselves troubled by Xie Qingshuang and Iron Bull’s words. Though accustomed to a life of plundering, having settled into the relative calm of the village, they hesitated at the thought of returning to their old ways.
Yet some eyes gleamed with excitement, whispering among themselves.
“Back when we robbed the rich, it was exhilarating. We could get plenty of money at once.”
A bearded bandit named Wang Hu slammed the table and shouted loudly.
A tall, thin bandit, Li Er, quickly agreed, “Yes, and some wealthy merchants are truly wicked. Robbing them is like justice served.”
Seeing the divided opinions, Chen Tong cleared his throat and spoke loudly.
“Brothers, I know this proposal is risky, but we have no better choice right now. Let me explain the plan in detail.”

Gradually, the crowd quieted, all eyes fixed on Chen Tong.
“We must not act blindly but plan carefully. First, we need to select appropriate targets.”
“Those wealthy merchants who are ruthless and collude with the government are our primary choice. They oppress the common folk and have ill-gotten wealth. Taking their money not only solves our financial problems but also serves the people.”
Chen Tong gestured as he spoke, helping everyone understand his idea more clearly.
“Furthermore, we must gather intelligence on their routes and guards in advance.”
“I will assign several sharp brothers to scout and monitor their every move.”
“When the time comes, we must strike precisely, resolve the matter swiftly, avoid prolonged battles, and leave no evidence for the authorities.”
Then, a young bandit named Zhao Xiaoliu stood hesitantly and asked, “Master Xie, what if we’re discovered? Those merchants’ guards won’t be easy to deal with.”
Chen Tong looked at Zhao Xiaoliu with steady determination.
“Xiaoliu, don’t worry. We will prepare thoroughly.”
“The scouting brothers will understand the guards’ situation, and we will assign suitable men according to their strength.”
“Once the operation begins, everyone must follow orders. With proper cooperation, success is certain.”
Xie Qingshuang furrowed his brow and thought for a moment before saying, “Brother Xie, your reasoning is sound, but we must be extremely cautious. If we decide to act, we must ensure everything is foolproof.”
Wang Hu shouted again, “What’s there to fear! With so many brothers, are we afraid of those merchants and their guards? Just say the word, Master Xie, and I’ll be the first to charge!”
Listening to Chen Tong, the crowd’s expressions softened, and they began to seriously consider the plan.
