Chapter Thirty-Seven: The Fearless Ignorant
Thanks to the brothers Yin and Yang for casting two monthly votes.
Xia Yan charged toward Qihào. The woman’s eyes were bloodshot, flushed with fury, yet she showed no fear as she ran toward his position.
The grudge between them was ready to be settled.
This woman had sunk to a despicable level, destroying everything out of selfishness. Xia Yan did not deny that she was loyal—though only foolishly so.
Her blind devotion to Emilia was the very reason for her demise. Xia Yan wanted her to understand: this was her fate.
How vast was the difference in their strength?
There was no doubt about Qihào’s power; being sent by Emilia was proof enough. Among everyone present, her strength ranked at least in the top three.
She was undoubtedly the strongest among the five-star ability users.
Yet Xia Yan was far stronger than her.
In an instant, Xia Yan’s blade met hers. The woman’s right hand went numb, and involuntarily, she spat a mouthful of fresh blood. At least seven of her ribs on that side were fractured.
She lost her grip on the weapon.
Her body no longer obeyed her.
She was thrown flying backward. In that moment, a look of unbearable agony and dread flashed across Qihào’s eyes—worse than death itself.
When she crashed to the ground, she was powerless to struggle. Weaponless, she resembled a miserable, ordinary girl. Gritting her teeth, she faced Xia Yan advancing toward her.
“Xia Yan, kill me if you must, kill me!” Qihào’s voice was wild. “I will never yield. You lowly ant, you plague upon the masters, you deserve to die. Die, I say!”
Her madness was boundless, surpassing even the former head of the Aiyu organization.
“Someone like Emilia doesn’t hold an ordinary woman’s position. She carries the future of an entire race on her shoulders. She would never do anything foolish,” Xia Yan said as he stared at Qihào. “She once told me that every reason has its root. It’s just that I’m not qualified to know.”
“No!” Qihào shrieked in madness, “Xia Yan, don’t deceive me, you lowly bastard!”
“The truth is just that,” Xia Yan sighed coldly, his eyes like those of a demon, “you keep blinding yourself, and you’ve been wrong all along. If you were more rational, I would explain. But you won’t even let me mention Emilia’s name. I can’t explain anything to you!”
This shouldn’t have happened. Although Xia Yan despised Qihào, he still honored his promises.
Qihào was not his enemy. At least, she wasn’t at first.
Such a situation would only tarnish his record.
No matter who the employer was, once he made a promise, he would fulfill it—even if he had to stand against humans.
Even Tauru or Lan Xin!
He could die, but he would never abandon or betray!
Xia Yan had told Emilia before that if Tauru tried to kill him, the mission might fail, and he might be killed.
But Xia Yan had never told Emilia that he would willingly give up the mission or hand over the Chain of Purity.
“Kill me then, just kill me,” Qihào could bear no more. With closed eyes, tears streamed down her face.
Xia Yan did not kill her. He spared her life to give an account to their employer. Killing one’s own comrade was foolish, even if that comrade had betrayed him.
At least she had not betrayed Emilia.
Xia Yan lifted his foot and kicked.
How powerful was that kick?
Qihào’s body soared like an arrow, flying far away. After soaring a hundred meters, she crashed into a towering tree, breaking the massive trunk that three people could barely encircle.
She fell heavily to the ground, covered in blood, her bones shattered in countless places. Aside from coughing up blood, she was utterly helpless.
Yet she still lived. Xia Yan had not killed her; some breath still remained. She could survive for a few more hours.
Rage burned in Qihào’s eyes, but she could not understand why Xia Yan spared her life.
Was it to humiliate her? To make her die in agony?
She refused to accept it but could no longer move. She could only wait silently for death.
At that moment, no one paid her any more attention. She was like a lonely ancient tree, awaiting her final hour.
The Free Zone would not save her, nor would the Demonic Tribe.
As for the others, let alone saving her, they wouldn’t even glance at her.
By now, only three enemies remained in the arena.
Next was the Werewolf Tribe!
“Human, I’m going all out!” The werewolf captain roared, his body engulfed in a red glow. He had activated his ability—Berserk Mode—which greatly enhanced his fighting power at the cost of his rationality.
Xia Yan sneered coldly. His icy gaze fixed on the charging werewolf captain.
Having unleashed his demonic power, Xia Yan no longer resembled a human. He was more terrifying than any mutant. Compared to his form, those awakened bloodline aliens seemed almost tame.
Xia Yan swung his blade casually.
The werewolf captain’s right claw flashed, the red glow intensifying, managing to block Xia Yan’s strike.
He was the first here to withstand Xia Yan’s blow, and the first to suffer little injury in doing so.
Xia Yan had to admit that the werewolf captain was exceptional—at least his defense was stronger than the others’.
“This won’t do. We’re going to die like this,” Zhen Shi said fearfully, clutching his war hammer, trembling uncontrollably.
“We have to think of a plan!” Chai Guan was scared too.
“Capture that woman called Tauru first. Xia Yan will have to comply. At least, we must survive,” Chai Guan said.
The two exchanged a glance, understanding each other’s thoughts. Recklessly fighting Xia Yan would be futile—they had no hope of survival.
Their only chance was to capture Tauru, use her as leverage to force Xia Yan to yield, or even kill him.
So they abandoned Xia Yan and charged toward Tauru’s position. After all, the werewolf captain could keep Xia Yan occupied for a while.
Neither of them noticed that they no longer placed any hope in the werewolf captain.
Yet their actions earned no approval from the winged tribe watching nearby; instead, they were met with cold mockery. The winged tribesmen who were spectators didn’t even come to help.
Why?
Because Tauru was strong?
