Chapter 62: If You Love Me, Become One with Me
"Evolution Warriors are the pinnacle of Morent's biotechnology, and the man before us is their most outstanding creation, representing the future direction of their research." Charles stared intently at the opponent.
Leslie was likewise one of the Chosen Seven of Fate, and also the future leader of the Atlantean City-State Alliance—a peerless figure capable of battling disaster-class divine beasts with nothing but his own body. In this world belonging to Soulmasters, he had shattered everyone's perception; no one could have imagined that a human could kill a divine beast without the aid of any totem!
It was as if, in his previous life, an ancient general suddenly appeared and withstood a nuclear bombardment, confronting modern civilization head-on—a notion that would break anyone's understanding of the world!
Therefore, Charles grew more and more interested in him, his eyes full of greed, a multitude of thoughts swirling in his mind. He had already decided to seize Leslie for himself once the man was seriously injured.
To Charles, Leslie was a treasure trove—a sample that could allow him to glimpse the path of human super-evolution, something he could not let slip away.
Evolution points could indeed enhance physical attributes such as strength, but the cost was becoming increasingly horrific. It was foreseeable that in the future, the price would multiply exponentially, the cost-effectiveness less than a tenth of upgrading a totem!
Yet, no matter how powerful, a totem was ultimately an external force; at most, it could allow advancement to the level of a divine beast, while the Soulmaster themselves would only surpass a general-class warrior, possessing powers close to an ultimate totem, but their lifespan would hardly be extended.
Having been reborn once, he would never allow himself to age and fade away like an ordinary person, only to have enemies come knocking at his deathbed to humiliate him.
Most importantly, he could not forget Azure Star. Only with the greatest power in this world, perhaps even becoming a "god," could he hope to return!
He did not know how long that would take, and his parents and family were just ordinary people. If time flowed differently between worlds… he dared not waste a single moment.
The flames finally receded. The once-dominant Vine Totem was now severely damaged, its thick tendrils blackened and charred, more than half lost in an instant.
But its opponent had self-destructed, leaving not even a corpse behind.
Shrouded in a green gauzy robe, Yolanda appeared and walked to the side of the red-haired man entangled by vines, looking down upon him from above.
With her main totem forced to self-destruct, the red-haired man summoned a giant wolf and a bear, but in the next second, they were both dispatched, no match for the terrifying vines.
"Spare me, Yolanda, please spare me! I only came here to persuade you to come back with me!" the man suddenly begged, his voice trembling as he spoke of the past.
"Yolanda, do you not understand my feelings for you? For your sake, I offended so many people, killed that disgusting dog of a man and that bastard—why do you still avoid me?"
His face twisted further, a look of hysterical rage.
Not far off, Charles curled his lip. The situation was clear: this red-haired man had loved this woman since childhood, but she didn't reciprocate and married another. Unwilling to accept it, the red-haired man killed her husband, not even sparing her child.
Now, even after she had joined the True God Cult and fled to the remote Farn County of the Empire, he still wouldn't leave her alone, obsessively determined to have Yolanda by his side—truly a "gentleman"!
Sure enough, the moment he brought up those matters, Yolanda's previously expressionless face contorted dramatically.
Vines temporarily held Leslie at bay, while another, as thick as a man's waist, wrapped around the red-haired man.
The protective spirit light on him creaked under the strain before shattering in the next instant.
The voluptuous, seductive woman stepped forward, her slender, fair hand effortlessly piercing his chest and lifting him clear off the ground.
"Please, spare me! I beg you, Yolanda, I truly love you!" The red-haired man screamed in agony.
Charles's resolve only deepened. This fragile path of the Soulmaster was not his goal.
Soulmasters were always guarded by protective spirit light, shielded from all harm, but once that protection failed, they became pitifully weak—less formidable even than the lowest totem beast, utterly useless without their totem's shelter.
A hoarse, low laugh escaped Yolanda's lips, like a venomous serpent slithering out of some shadowy crevice, sending a chill down one's spine.
Her other hand beckoned, and the green vine-totem sphere—over three meters in diameter—split open to reveal a monstrous maw, its jagged teeth grinding relentlessly.
"If you love me so much, then become a part of my pet. That way, we'll always be together!"
Despairing, the red-haired man screamed, "No!"
A sickening crunch.
The vine hurled him into the gigantic mouth, his body instantly pulverized into the finest meat paste, which the horrific plant totem quickly devoured.
The sphere trembled slightly, as if burping after a hearty meal, and then focused all its strength on fighting the berserk humanoid beast.
Crunch!
Leslie's hands were as sharp as blades, slicing through a vine as thick as a barrel. He laughed wildly, "You filthy whore! He loved you so much and you devoured him so cruelly. Truly a venomous snake that eats people whole!"
"Heh, then you can join him down below. No man is any good—they're all beasts, worse than animals!"
Stirred to her deepest hatred, Yolanda abandoned her usual seductive charm, transforming into a man-devouring serpent.
She strode to the vine-sphere, tossing a green marble that exploded above it, transforming into a cloud of green mist.
This mist had a miraculous effect on the vine-totem; the charred, burnt sections instantly fell away, and even thicker, tougher vines burst forth in moments.
Astonishingly, at the tip of each vine, gaping, savage maws appeared, lunging viciously at Leslie.
"Come on, then! Let me show you who represents the future! I'm going to break the rules and become the first super-evolved human—let the ignorant, outdated old era die!"
Leslie roared with laughter, reveling in the power of a humanoid beast, meeting the assault of the vine-serpents head-on.
His fists were like indestructible iron, smashing one monstrous vine maw after another.
But more and more vines appeared, and the battle soon descended into a deadlock…
Meanwhile, as Charles watched the spectacle, the man who had come with him dashed over, panting, "Hey, where's your monster? Why haven't you summoned it to attack those plant creatures?"
"Well, you see, Firefly is pretty weak. I'm worried it can't handle those monsters," Charles replied with an awkward smile.
"Alright, you win!"
Daniel shook his head in exasperation. A faint yellow light shimmered around him as he swiftly formed intricate hand seals, summoning a bizarre monkey-shaped totem. Grinning, he said:
"Let me reintroduce myself, brother. I'm a Soulmaster under the Imperial Security Administration, a Grade Two Soulmaster! Now tell me—are you interested in joining us?"
