Master Luo brought Gu back to the now-ruined blacksmith workshop. They paused before the overgrown wreckage to pay their respects and reminisce for a moment.

Though Gu had not yet removed his tattered, mud-stained clothes, his face—once tangled with grime and sweat-streaked beard—was now clean and well-groomed. All filth had been washed away, leaving only the youthful yet worn expression of a young man burdened beyond his years.

He was only twenty.

A fledgling in the martial world, a naive young hero easily deceived by others.

“Boss, there’s no going back here,” Gu whispered, head bowed and tears falling.

His words came from the heart, a genuine outpouring of emotion.

Years of hardship on the martial path had changed him—he was no longer the boy he once was. Hardened as iron and stone, yet when facing memories of his innocent youth, he could not help but feel sorrow.

Moved by the past, tears stained his chest.

“Cry all you want, kid—do you still have the face to weep?” Suddenly, a sharp voice rang out from behind.

Then came the sound of orderly footsteps.

“Manjun, you won’t escape.” Gleaming swords reflected white light across the ruins.

Gu paid them no mind, lowering his head as he awaited Master Luo’s response.

“Hmph, still so arrogant. Take a look beneath your feet!” A towering man clad in scale armor sneered, stroking his fine mustache coldly.

Beneath Luo and Gu’s feet, faint golden glimmers appeared—rows of talismans laid in advance, numbering at least ten thousand, all immobilizing charms. They radiated in unison, clearly triggered.

“They’re frozen. Capture them quickly and await Tai’s judgment.” The armored man ordered his men to use steel cord talismans to pin Luo and Gu down like a pipa, sealing them in place.

“Let’s see who dares!” Gu suddenly erupted with fierce energy, stomping the ground. An invisible force shattered the immobilizing talismans one by one, along with the triple-layered seals beneath them, reducing them to dust.

“Retreat!” The armored man’s eye twitched violently, nearly popping out.

Yet he drew a shining great blade and swung at Gu, ordering his men to withdraw swiftly without hesitation.

His bold leadership was impressive, and his subordinates obeyed without delay.

“Enough. I’m not here for this farce.” Master Luo finally spoke.

As his words fell, the armored man collapsed, fainting instantly. Others attempting to flee also lost consciousness, leaving Gu as the only one standing upright.

But Gu soon bowed low, unwilling to show even a trace of defiance.

Years ago, he had left Master Luo standing tall. Now, looking back, he realized how mistaken and foolish his younger self had been.

As for his boss’s abilities, he had long since understood—they must be extraordinary, far surpassing his own, Tai’s, or anyone else’s in the world.

His intuition had been correct.

“Gu, the path of magic must not be practiced lightly,” Luo said slowly after regaining control of the situation.

Gu nodded. He had trusted the teachings within the Barbarian God Hammer, only to suffer greatly. Near breaking free, he was forced to sever the spirit infected by the Barbarian Lord, cutting out a magical brain.

But excising those spirits was not enough since they were one with him and continued to affect his true self, driving him towards madness. He tried to deceive others with this insanity, hoping to escape his fate.

Yet it was himself—how could he be fooled? The magical brain returned to his body but failed to form a full magic body, becoming a fragmented Barbarian Lord, desperate to cling to Gu and seize him completely. Only then could it be whole.

“The Barbarian Lord is dead. How can it still exist in this world?” Luo said.

Gu shook his head. “Boss, the Barbarian Lord transformed his memories and true energy into the magical prohibitions of the Barbarian God Hammer. The more I wield it, the more his memories invade my soul, turning me into him. Eventually, he will be reborn through my body and lifetime of memories. Since childhood, I have been his vessel, unable to break free. I tried to abandon it, but it was impossible.”

“And now, I can’t let it go either. It’s too deep—far too deep.”

Gu’s face was filled with helplessness, despair, madness, and loneliness. With a thud, he sank to his knees, hands tangled in his messy hair.

“Boss, save me—I’ve had enough.”

“Or maybe… you should just kill me.”

Luo’s face remained calm, unmoved by Gu’s madness, showing no pity.

“Foolish child, foolish child,” Luo sighed.

He had wanted to help, but no “heroic aura” appeared—how disappointing.

Still, Gu’s plea could not be ignored.

“I have a method called the Three Souls and Seven Spirits Primordial Soul Technique. Are you willing to try it?” Luo asked quietly, lowering his gaze.

Gu immediately stopped crying and howling, crawling forward and clasping his fists. “Boss, is this an advanced form of the Three Souls and Seven Spirits Yang Spirit Technique?”

Luo nodded. “Exactly.”

“Boss, I will learn it.” Gu made up his mind without hesitation.

“Hm.” Luo had already decided. Even if Gu refused, he would still pass it on.

He had even considered hiding it in the Martial God Temple or buried beneath these ruins, guiding Gu to find it later.

That approach was more intriguing but no more effective than simply giving it directly. Since that was the case, Luo saw no reason for unnecessary complications.

He could even implant the Three Souls and Seven Spirits Primordial Soul Technique directly into Gu’s mind.

That would be more efficient, but he worried Gu might reject it, suspecting it was another trick by the Barbarian Lord. So Luo chose to personally teach him.

As the technique imprinted on Gu’s mind, clarity flooded his head, instantly dispelling the fog of days past. But before happiness could take hold, a voice pushed that feeling away.

“Gu, you cannot escape my grasp. Don’t struggle. Even your mysterious boss cannot save you. We are one—why fight and only increase your pain? Unite with me early.”

But Gu ignored it, carefully studying the Three Souls and Seven Spirits Primordial Soul Technique.

“Good, very good. This technique is wonderful. When you grow stronger, so do I. Excellent, truly excellent.”

The voice carried both boldness and sinister malice, yet Gu’s rare composure remained unshaken.

After confirming the technique, Gu no longer lingered in the spiritual illusion or heeded the Barbarian Lord’s entreaties. He broke free.

But upon opening his eyes, he found himself surrounded only by the imperial soldiers who had pursued him—his master was gone.

“Oh? Who are you looking for?”

At that moment, a familiar voice sounded abruptly behind him.

It was Tai, who had long hunted him.

There is more to come. I am still recovering from the aftereffects of the flu, with a lingering cough and runny nose, but rest assured, another chapter will be out today.
