Chapter Thirty-Three: An Unexpected Visit
Old Ye replied, “Doctor Chu, we trust you, but when you buy medicinal herbs, did you get the permission of the Witch Doctor Sect? If not, that's breaking the law.” He thought Chu Yun had only just become a doctor and probably hadn't gotten the permit yet, so he was a little worried.
A few herb gatherers heard this and looked at Chu Yun hopefully.
Seeing their concern, Chu Yun quickly smiled and said, “Don’t worry, I’ve surely obtained permission, otherwise I wouldn’t be buying your herbs.”
Everyone smiled with relief upon hearing this and began preparing to discuss the price of the herbs with Chu Yun.
However, Boss Wu smiled and asked, “Chu Yun, you say you’ve got permission. Why don’t you show us the token?”
Chu Yun was taken aback; he hadn’t expected that a token was required, just like in modern times when certain credentials were necessary.
The herb gatherers watched him expectantly, hoping he would produce the token.
Unfortunately, Chu Yun couldn’t produce it. He smiled and said, “I don’t have the token yet, but rest assured, Lord Jiang Lin and Lord Luo Feng are helping me set up the clinic. They’ll find a way to get me the token.”
But everyone still felt disappointed after hearing this.
Only Old Ye approached Chu Yun and said, “I believe in you, Doctor Chu! Take a look at these herbs I’ve brought—how much are they worth?”
Chu Yun inspected them and said, “These herbs are good. Twenty-five coin blades. If you think the price is fair, Uncle Ye, I’ll buy them.”
Old Ye immediately broke into a smile. “Twenty-five coin blades? That’s far more than I expected! Of course I accept!”
Chu Yun handed him the twenty-five coin blades. “Alright, I’ll take your herbs.”
The other herb gatherers’ eyes lit up at the scene.
They thought Old Ye’s bundle of herbs would fetch, at most, four coin blades from Boss Wu.
Twenty-five coin blades was unimaginable.
That much money could buy nearly two months’ worth of food.
Boss Wu’s face, meanwhile, turned extremely sour.
Chu Yun’s price was far too high, exceeding even the Witch Doctor Sect’s rates. He wouldn’t make a profit, but rather lose money.
But he thought that by doing this, Chu Yun would offend the Witch Doctor Sect and would surely meet a miserable end. He started to smile again. “Chu Yun, keep digging your own grave. I’ll just watch quietly!”
Chu Yun ignored him and turned to the herb gatherers. “Go ahead and sell me your herbs. Even if I don’t have the Witch Doctor Sect’s permission, it’s only me who breaks the law. Don’t you want to earn more money?”
Boss Wu laughed and said, “Go ahead and sell to him. When he gets arrested for breaking the law, who will you sell to next?”
“And even if he gets permission, do you think he’ll always offer such high prices?”
“This rascal is cunning. He’s just raising the price now to compete with me for herbs.”
“It’s one good meal or every meal—think about it.”
Chu Yun quickly patted his chest and promised, “Rest assured, I buy herbs at a high price only to help you get the reward you deserve and give you a better choice. I’ve gathered herbs myself—I know how hard it is.”
The herb gatherers, reassured by his words, no longer worried and brought their bundles to Chu Yun to negotiate prices.
Chu Yun’s offered prices naturally satisfied them, so they sold all their herbs to him.
“You damned rascal, just you wait!” Boss Wu watched the herb gatherers, carrying their herbs and following Chu Yun to his house. He was so furious he stamped his feet.
Then, fuming, he turned and left.
By coincidence, he hadn’t gone far when he ran into people from the Ten Miles Fragrance Inn, the Lucky Casino, and the Red Delight House.
Leading them was the manager of the Ten Miles Fragrance Inn.
The manager, seeing Boss Wu’s angry expression, couldn’t help but ask, “Isn’t this Boss Wu from the pharmacy? Who made you so angry? Could it be Chu Yun, that rascal?”
They were not far from Chu Yun’s house, and knowing the conflict between Chu Yun and Boss Wu, he naturally guessed so.
Even if it wasn’t, he intended to stir up the conflict between Chu Yun and Boss Wu.
The manager of the Ten Miles Fragrance Inn had warned Chu Yun not to treat people in the inn. Then Chu Yun used soft buns and steamed bread to help the Festive Restaurant’s business thrive, causing their own business to decline day by day.
It was on the advice of Boss Wu and the Witch Doctor Sect’s medical officer that they did this, claiming Chu Yun was a fraud.
So their conflict with Chu Yun was, in truth, tied to Boss Wu.
Now, bumping into Boss Wu, naturally he wanted to pull him in to deal with Chu Yun together.
And with the Witch Doctor Sect’s medical officer backing Boss Wu, they needn’t fear Jiang Lin and Luo Feng.
Boss Wu, already angry, couldn’t resist complaining when the manager spoke. “Don’t mention that dog to me—I want to kill him!”
The manager was delighted and pointed to his group. “Boss Wu, we’re all here to deal with Chu Yun.”
Boss Wu was excited to see they had more than ten strong men.
He almost blurted out that they should go and kill Chu Yun, but stopped himself.
He wasn’t foolish—he knew if Chu Yun was killed, Luo Feng wouldn’t let him off.
The manager saw he hesitated and said, “Boss Wu, that dog dares to be arrogant before you. He deserves to die. Come, let’s kill him together!”
Boss Wu quickly waved his hands. “That rascal may deserve death, but murder is against the law. Let’s just teach him a lesson. He’s buying herbs without the Witch Doctor Sect’s permission, breaking the king’s law—so teaching him a lesson is fair and legal.”
“Haha, with your word, Boss Wu, we’re reassured!” The manager laughed, thinking that with the Witch Doctor Sect involved, nothing could go wrong.
Then, leading more than ten strong men, they headed to Chu Yun’s doorstep.
