Chapter Thirty-Four: Astonishment
The innkeeper exchanged a look with the casino's enforcer, who immediately caught on and began shouting loudly, "Chu the Rascal, get out here, hurry up and get out..."
Neighbors nearby couldn't help but come out to see what was happening, but when they saw more than a dozen burly men standing at Chu Yun's door, they were frightened and quickly retreated into their homes, afraid of being caught up in trouble.
Some, who were never happy at others’ good fortune, watched with a hint of schadenfreude.
At that moment, Old Man Ye and the group of herbalists happened to have just taken their money and left. Perhaps they heard the shouts of the enforcers and dared not return to help Chu Yun. In any case, Chu Yun was truly alone, with only the weak woman Yang Liu’er to care for.
But he remained calm. In his previous life as a special forces field medic, he had faced far more enemies while protecting fragile female hostages. This was child's play to him.
Though the original owner’s body was somewhat frail, after these days of his own training and with proper nutrition, he had grown much sturdier.
He first said to Yang Liu’er, "Liu’er, don’t be afraid. Just stay inside and don’t come out."
Yang Liu’er nodded. "Husband, you must be careful. If you can avoid fighting, then avoid it. Don’t try to be a hero. There will always be a chance for revenge in the future."
Chu Yun smiled at her words, secretly amused at her little streak of cunning.
"Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing!"
With that, he walked out of the house composed, faced the group of burly men, and said coolly, "What are you making such a racket at my door for?"
The casino’s enforcer barked, "Chu the Rascal, you’ve got some nerve, daring to injure people from our Lucky Casino. I’m telling you, without five—no, ten taels of silver, this won’t end here."
Immediately, thugs from the Red Lotus Brothel also stepped forward, claiming Chu Yun had injured their men and demanding compensation—ten taels of silver, no less.
After hearing them out, Chu Yun turned to the people from the Fragrant Inn and Boss Wu. "And you? What are you here for?"
The innkeeper looked toward Boss Wu, who snorted, "Chu Yun, first you injured people, then you bought medicinal herbs without permission from the Witch Doctor Guild—both are violations. We're taking you to the yamen."
Chu Yun shook his head with a laugh. "Take me to the yamen? Just the likes of you?"
Boss Wu was momentarily stunned, not expecting Chu Yun to act so brazenly in the face of so many burly men. "Chu the Rascal, you’re looking for death!"
With those words, he glanced at the thugs. They understood, and once again demanded that Chu Yun hand over money, or else they wouldn’t be polite.
Chu Yun remained unafraid. "In broad daylight, you dare to extort me? Hmph, I have no money, and even if I did, I wouldn’t give it to you!"
"Haha! Chu the Rascal, I didn’t think you’d still be so arrogant at a time like this!" Boss Wu couldn’t fathom where Chu Yun got his confidence. He refused to believe one man could take on so many.
The thugs, infuriated by Chu Yun’s audacity, charged at him without restraint. Yet with just a few moves, Chu Yun had them all sprawled on the ground.
Each of his strikes landed on a vital point, knocking down one after another in a flash. The brawny men, towering over him, were utterly powerless before him.
"So he’s really this good at fighting?"
Boss Wu was dumbfounded. He finally understood why Chu Yun dared to be so bold in front of all those enforcers.
The innkeeper, equally stunned, was astonished to discover Chu Yun's true strength. He now realized that the casino and the Red Lotus Brothel had not dared to retaliate against Chu Yun—not just because they feared Jiang Lin and Luo Feng.
He looked at Boss Wu. "What now?"
Boss Wu frowned. "Even though it’s annoying, we’d best withdraw. Next time, we’ll find an opportunity to deal with him properly!"
Then he glared at Chu Yun. "Don’t get cocky, boy! Just you wait!"
With that, he waved his hand, signaling everyone to leave.
The thugs, intimidated by Chu Yun’s skill, quickly turned to go.
"Stop! Did I say you could leave?" Chu Yun called after them, his voice cold.
Hearing this, Boss Wu hurried his pace to escape, the others following suit, fleeing faster than rabbits.
Chu Yun, thinking of Yang Liu’er inside, worried they might try a trick and double back, so he didn’t pursue. Watching their panicked flight, he couldn't help but laugh heartily.
Still, he had no intention of letting them off so easily.
Boss Wu, hearing Chu Yun’s laughter behind him, felt thoroughly humiliated and shouted, "You bastard, just wait—I’ll make you pay for this!"
Once they were far enough away, the innkeeper asked, "How do you plan to get back at Chu Yun?"
Boss Wu snorted, "We’ll burn down his clinic. He doesn’t have the Witch Doctor Guild’s permission—burning it won't be any trouble."
"Alright, we’ll do as you say," the innkeeper replied.
They quickly discussed the details of burning down the clinic.
Not long after they left, Luo Feng arrived at Chu Yun’s home, intending to recommend him to treat Young Master Qi. The young master's condition had worsened, and the Witch Doctor Guild was at a loss.
Luo Feng’s own injuries had improved significantly under Chu Yun’s care in just a few days—he could now move about without trouble.
Because of this, Luo Feng had full confidence in Chu Yun’s medical skills, convinced that Chu Yun could cure Young Master Qi’s mysterious illness.
On his way, he overheard neighbors discussing how Chu Yun had single-handedly driven off over a dozen burly enforcers.
"Doctor Chu is truly formidable! No wonder I lost to him that day!" Luo Feng couldn’t help but sigh in admiration.
At the same time, he made sure to listen carefully to the gossip, wanting to know who had brought so many thugs to trouble Chu Yun.
He was determined to resolve all of Chu Yun’s troubles himself, ensuring no one would ever disturb him again.
