Shen Suining tapped out a few words on her phone and replied, “No, thank you. Pianpian and I are perfectly happy sitting here.”

Clearly, Shen Suining’s refusal only made Pei Min even more displeased.

She turned around and shot Shen Suining a vicious glare. With most of the guests already in attendance, however, she refrained from getting up and marching over to confront her.

Just then, the doors to the venue opened once again.

Pei Min had not even turned around yet, but her expression visibly darkened.

Seeing the change in Pei Min’s face, Shen Suining and Ye Pianpian also turned toward the entrance suspiciously.

There stood Jiang Runlang, one arm bent as Lin Yinxi rested her hand intimately in the crook of it.

His other arm was wrapped around Jiangjiang, who was dressed like an exquisite porcelain doll.

Ye Pianpian shot to her feet and glared furiously at Lin Yinxi.

Seeing her reaction, Shen Suining immediately understood. The gown Lin Yinxi was wearing was the very one Ye Pianpian had chosen for her.

Although she had already suspected as much from the shop manager’s reaction, seeing it with her own eyes still sent a chill straight to Shen Suining’s bones.

Jiang Runlang no longer cared in the slightest about preserving the Jiang family’s dignity. He had actually brought Lin Yinxi here so ostentatiously, displaying her before everyone.

Ye Pianpian’s outburst naturally drew Jiang Runlang and the others’ attention.

When Lin Yinxi saw Shen Suining sitting quietly in her chair, unmistakable fear appeared in her eyes.

She instinctively edged closer to Jiang Runlang, looking for all the world as though Shen Suining had bullied her.

Such shameless, manipulative behavior naturally infuriated Ye Pianpian.

She rolled up her sleeves, baring her arms, and was just about to charge over and start a fight when Shen Suining swiftly caught hold of her.

Shen Suining had spent years accompanying archaeological teams into tombs, so she was naturally quite strong. She pulled Ye Pianpian straight back into her chair.

Ye Pianpian immediately shot her an indignant look. “Suisui! Don’t stop me! Let me teach that shameless homewrecker who loves stealing other people’s things a lesson!”

Shen Suining patted the back of her hand soothingly, signaling for her to look ahead. The auctioneer had already stepped onto the stage, and the auction was about to begin.

At a time and in a place like this, it would have been completely inappropriate for Ye Pianpian to go and teach Lin Yinxi a lesson.

Besides, she had already made up her mind to divorce Jiang Runlang. Whoever he brought with him no longer mattered to her.

Especially since she had already learned about this the night before.

Even so, Ye Pianpian was truly unable to swallow her anger. The gown she had chosen at first sight for Shen Suining was now being worn so brazenly by that mistress, Lin Yinxi. How could she possibly tolerate it?

The brand she had always loved had been made to look utterly cheap in an instant!

Meanwhile, the other guests in the venue were whispering among themselves.

“Am I seeing things? That’s the Brilliant Purple Galaxy, isn’t it? It’s worth thirty million, and she’s just wearing it like that!”

“You’re joking. That’s Young Master Jiang! Thirty million is nothing to him.”

“If I’m not mistaken, that woman isn’t Shen Suining, is she? Could she be Young Master Jiang’s mistress?”

“Don’t tell me you still don’t know? Young Master Jiang already took her to Jiangjiang’s kindergarten family event and publicly announced that she was Jiangjiang’s mother. So who exactly is Shen Suining? That’s still anyone’s guess!”

As the discussion continued, more and more eyes turned toward Shen Suining.

With no idea what had really happened, the guests automatically filled in the blanks with a melodramatic story of their own.

“No way. Could Shen Suining actually be nothing more than a nanny living in the Jiang family’s home to care for their little miss? She actually has the nerve to call herself the Jiang family’s young madam? What an outrageous woman!”

“I’d say that’s probably the truth. Jiangjiang is likely Young Master Jiang’s daughter with this woman. Perhaps she wasn’t in Ningcheng before, and now she’s finally returned to claim her rightful place.”

“Tsk, tsk! I always wondered why Jiangjiang didn’t resemble Shen Suining at all. So that’s how it is!”

The looks directed at Shen Suining grew increasingly contemptuous.

She was wearing a simple, modest gown, while Lin Yinxi was dressed in the thirty-million-dollar Brilliant Purple Galaxy. The contrast made the difference in their status seem obvious.

The guests became even more convinced that their assumptions were correct.

They made no effort to lower their voices. Every word reached Shen Suining’s ears—and Lin Yinxi’s as well.

Lin Yinxi unconsciously straightened her back, as though the truth really were exactly as everyone imagined.

With eyes full of adoration, she lifted her gaze to Jiang Runlang. At that very moment, she met his lowered eyes as he looked down at her.

Their gazes met, and it seemed as though countless pink bubbles were floating around them. Even Jiangjiang, who had been watching Shen Suining with a tiny frown, was swept up in the mood.

Jiangjiang raised both hands to cup her little face and deliberately exclaimed in a loud voice, “Daddy, Mommy, stop showing off your love! I’m still here!”

With that, she exaggeratedly buried her little face in the crook of Jiang Runlang’s neck.

Hearing Jiangjiang’s words, everyone present became even more certain that their assumptions were the truth.

Someone seized the opportunity to mock Shen Suining. “Have you no shame? You’re still clinging to this place instead of leaving. Don’t you know what sort of person you are? You’re polluting our eyes just by being here!”

The speaker was Zheng Yeshū, who had disliked Shen Suining for a long time. In her eyes, Shen Suining was nothing more than an orphan who had depended on her grandmother for survival. She had merely danced once at a school anniversary celebration and caught Jiang Runlang’s attention.

Jiang Runlang had pursued Shen Suining relentlessly for years, ignoring all the wealthy young ladies from prestigious families. How could they possibly have tolerated that?

Now that Zheng Yeshū finally saw Shen Suining being cast aside by Jiang Runlang, she chose to kick her while she was down, despite knowing perfectly well what the truth was.

“Trash belongs back where trash is meant to be!” Zheng Yeshū raised her voice deliberately so that the entire venue could hear her.

Yet no matter how many hateful and contemptuous looks were directed at Shen Suining, no matter how many people openly whispered and waited to see her humiliated, Shen Suining remained utterly unmoved.

She sat steadily in her chair, poised and graceful, making those who deliberately provoked her look like nothing more than clowns putting on a pathetic performance.

Ye Pianpian had been so furious that her breathing had grown heavy, her chest rising and falling sharply. She looked ready to leap up at any moment, pick a fight, and smash the entire auction to pieces.

But with Shen Suining holding her down, she was somehow infected by Shen Suining’s calm dignity.

Her anger suddenly eased a little. Her gaze swept over every face in the room, committing each ugly expression to memory.

If Shen Suining did not want her to cause trouble now, she could endure it.

Once the auction was over, she would settle accounts with every one of them.

At that moment, Shen Suining’s phone rang again.

It was Pei Min once more.

“Shen Suining! Are you satisfied now? People are flaunting their triumph right in your face, and you’re still so utterly useless!”
