Chapter 111: With Such a Virtuous Wife, What More Could a Husband Ask For?
“It looks like you don’t want to. Shall I help you?”
“I... I’ll crawl! I’ll crawl out!”
Zhong Xingnan clenched his teeth and nodded in panic. If Wang Silai were to help him, that bodyguard would surely crush his shoulder blades.
That man was a rare expert. Once, someone had tried to assassinate Wang Silai, only to have this bull-strong bodyguard snap his spine on the spot.
Zhong Xingnan did not dare say another word. He dropped to his hands and knees, then scrambled out toward the door as fast as he could.
A few brave onlookers were still present, and they filmed this bizarre scene.
“Didn’t they say Young Master Wang was refined and easygoing? How could he make the Su City tyrant crawl out like a dog? Is he really that powerful?”
“You have to understand: in the circle of rich heirs in this country, Young Master Wang is already one of the most influential top figures. Hang City is second only to the capital and the Magic City, and on top of that he has a wife whose background is shrouded in mystery. Almost no one dares provoke him.”
“Then the man he calls Mister Lin must be extraordinary. To earn Young Master Wang’s respect, he has to be something remarkable.”
Some even wanted to capture the scene of Lin Fan dining with Wang Silai and Su Hemo, but someone stopped them.
“What are you all still standing here for? Those who shouldn’t be here had better not dirty anyone else’s eyes.”
The bodyguard behind Wang Silai saw that Tang Guo and the other four were still frozen in place, unsure what to do, and barked at them to leave.
Terrified by his voice, cold as ice, Tang Guo and the others trembled all over and hurriedly turned to flee.
Just then, Zhang Yi walked in slowly, dressed in a burgundy gown.
The moment she entered, she saw Zhong Xingnan climbing out from inside with a face dark as thunder.
Zhong Xingnan, however, did not notice her. He did not dare lift his head to look at anyone, afraid of being recognized again.
Instead, Tang Guo and the others spotted Zhang Yi.
Zhang Yi had been wondering why Zhong Xingnan and the others were crawling on the floor, and when she looked more closely, she saw Lin Fan, Su Hemo, and Wang Silai seated at the same table.
“Zhang Yi, are you still coming to my birthday banquet tonight?”
Tang Guo forced a smile and stepped forward, asking tentatively.
“Sorry, Tang Guo. I may not be able to make it. My boyfriend is taking me somewhere else, but I’ll send you a big red envelope.”
Zhang Yi hesitated for a moment before replying with polite courtesy.
After what happened last night, she had lost all trust in Tang Guo. From now on, they were no longer best friends, not even friends. They were destined to become strangers, and besides, they had never truly belonged to the same world.
Still, Zhang Yi could not bear it and quietly reminded her, “You should stay away from Zhong Xingnan. He’s nothing but scum. He’ll dump you sooner or later, so don’t waste your youth on him.”
With that, Zhang Yi turned away coldly and walked toward Lin Fan with composed ease.
“I’m late...”
She gave an awkward smile and actually apologized to Wang Silai and Su Hemo.
These two were pinnacle figures in the circle of wealthy heirs, celebrities in their own right. Wherever they went, whoever they met, whatever they wore—if it was exposed, it would instantly dominate the trending headlines.
Even many officials, upon meeting them, had to curry favor. Around them, even the diners nearby did not dare casually take photos or record videos.
“Let me introduce everyone. This is my girlfriend, Zhang Yi...”
At that, Su Hemo could not help teasing again. “A proper girlfriend really is much prettier than those female streamers. A match made in heaven!”
“Hey, Zhang Yi, do you know how many women he has?”
Su Hemo looked at Lin Fan with a sly smile and said contemptuously.
Lin Fan blushed scarlet at her words and shot her an annoyed glare.
This woman was absolutely doing it on purpose, trying to make him lose face.
Yet Zhang Yi replied generously and cleverly, “For someone as outstanding as him, attracting the admiration of many women is perfectly normal. I wouldn’t be jealous.”
Her words made Wang Silai and Su Hemo view her with even greater respect.
Lin Fan was also deeply pleased by them. As expected of a woman with such good upbringing—what more could a man ask for than a wife like this, both virtuous and magnanimous?
After their tender moments the night before, Lin Fan had hinted to her that until marriage, he might not be able to hold himself back. Zhang Yi, however, had said she did not mind such things, only asking that he not be too fickle or create scandalous gossip that would damage his image.
After dinner, the group took a yacht out to sea for some leisure.
That afternoon, Lin Fan and Wang Silai finalized the investment arrangement.
The entire project was led by the relevant government departments, with Emperor Grand Group investing as the major shareholder in a new energy company called Genesis Tech.
Emperor Grand Group and several other shareholders had already invested nearly seventy billion yuan, and the remaining thirty billion would be invested by Lin Fan.
Wang Silai also explained why he had sought out Lin Fan.
The total investment in Genesis Tech would likely far exceed one hundred billion yuan, because future research and development costs would continue to rise. One hundred billion was only the initial cost. If a group without substantial cash flow invested rashly, it would face many difficulties later when it could no longer keep up with the funding.
But Lin Fan was different. He had plenty of money, and that alone could solve Emperor Grand Group’s worries.
Lin Fan chose to invest under Su Hemo’s name and have her stand in as the shareholder for several reasons.
First, when he spent money on her, he could earn consumption rebates.
Second, it would help Su Hemo gain the attention of the old master of the Su family and rise successfully.
And then there was another reason: he lacked the ability and knowledge needed to serve as a major shareholder. He would rather be a hands-off owner, while Su Hemo’s talent was second only to Wang Silai’s. Having a professional like her keep watch over things suited him perfectly.
Wang Silai stayed in Yazhou for only one day. Early the next morning, he returned to Su City.
The contract had already been signed. Lin Fan had transferred the thirty billion yuan into Emperor Grand Group’s account and received three billion yuan in consumption rebates.
Su Hemo, on the other hand, planned to stay a couple more days with Lin Fan before heading back.
On the fourth day since arriving in Yazhou:
That evening, after dinner, Su Hemo and Zhang Yi went shopping together to buy gifts to take home. Lin Fan did not follow them and instead remained alone in the hotel watching a movie.
In the presidential suite, Lin Fan was lying on the sofa watching a film when he suddenly received a call from the hotel front desk.
“Mister Lin, this is your dedicated concierge. The meal you ordered has been delivered. Please open the door.”
Lin Fan did not think much of it and got up to answer.
But the moment he opened the door, the next second a black muzzle was suddenly pressed against his forehead.
In an instant, Lin Fan felt every hair on his body stand on end, and his heart thudded violently.
The one holding the gun was none other than Zhong Xingnan.
Seeing Lin Fan widen his eyes and freeze in place like a statue, Zhong Xingnan’s lips curved into a sinister smile.
“Scared, are you? I told you before—I could kill you as easily as crushing a fly.”
“I never thought Young Master Wang would still call my father. You made me lose all face in the circle, got my bank cards frozen, and turned me into a laughingstock. Tell me—how should this debt be settled?”
Lin Fan stared at him, his face ashen, nearly frightened out of his wits. After all, he had never imagined Zhong Xingnan would come to kill him with a gun.
The system had no way to understand words; it could only detect whether people who had come into contact with him harbored malice. Everything had come so suddenly, with no warning at all.
