Chapter 2: Two Women Compete for One Husband
Oh my!
Still a pure maiden!
Wait a minute!
Lin Fan suddenly realized a new issue—did the identity reversal mean that the stunning beauty would now be fawning over him?
He grumbled to himself for a moment, growing more intrigued. Looking at Gu Qingcheng, he smiled and asked, “Would you be my girlfriend? I’ll buy you a villa.”
Gu Qingcheng was stunned for nearly a whole minute before responding playfully, “Sure! As long as you keep your word!”
Everyone around burst into laughter at this exchange.
“Just scraping together the down payment for a three-bedroom apartment would take selling the family silver, and now he wants to buy someone a villa? That’s hilarious!” Chen Yanzi gritted her teeth.
“Sis, look at how confident Lin Fan is. Do you think he could actually be a rich second-generation?” Chen Wei asked sarcastically.
“Absolutely impossible.”
Wang Fang laughed loudly, ignoring everyone around. “If that broke Lin Fan can really afford a villa, I’ll eat something disgusting on livestream, I swear!”
Lin Fan glanced around. He didn’t care what Gu Qingcheng thought for now; he just saw her as a ‘tool’ to help him make money.
“I’ll take your best villa.”
Gu Qingcheng stared at him, thinking he’d back down with some excuse, but instead, he doubled down. Hmph! If you want to play, fine, I’ll play along!
“Alright, sir. Our most expensive villa is in the center of Tianhu District. It’s three stories, comes with a huge garden and a swimming pool… worth fifty-three million eight hundred thousand.”
“Oh! Just over fifty million?” Lin Fan was genuinely a bit disappointed. He’d expected the most expensive one to cost a hundred million or more.
Seeing his reaction, Gu Qingcheng grew even angrier. Such arrogance! Did he even know how much fifty million was? Ordinary people could toil for generations and never earn that much.
“Sir, will you be paying by card or transfer?”
“Transfer.”
“Right this way, please.”
Lin Fan followed Gu Qingcheng to the cashier, took out his phone, and scanned to initiate the transfer.
Hmph! He’s really putting on a good act!
Let’s see what he does when he can’t pay.
Gu Qingcheng sneered internally.
The people around were laughing even harder, thinking no one could show off as outrageously as this.
“Ding! Incoming transfer of fifty-three million eight hundred thousand from China Merchants Bank.”
At the clear announcement, Gu Qingcheng was utterly stunned. My god—Lin Fan wasn’t pretending at all; he was a bona fide tycoon. Their first meeting, and he’d handed her a top-tier villa without so much as blinking.
The crowd was so shocked their figurative glasses shattered. Remembering their earlier jeering, they felt as if they’d slapped themselves silly and wished they could crawl into a hole.
Wang Fang swallowed hard and stammered, “Daughter, it turns out Lin Fan really is a rich heir—what do we do now?”
“Sis, you can’t let such a good brother-in-law get stolen by some vixen! Otherwise, our family’s shot at fortune will vanish!” Chen Wei was sweating profusely, shaking Chen Yanzi’s hand urgently.
Chen Yanzi bit her lip hard and ran forward.
Glancing at the virtual panel in his mind, Lin Fan saw his wealth had changed to five million three hundred eighty thousand.
All that money was his to spend as he wished—he’d struck it rich overnight.
Lin Fan was overjoyed inside, though his expression remained calm. This was only the beginning; as long as he played his role as a ‘devoted admirer’ well, he’d keep raking it in!
“Sir, thank you for the villa. It’s almost mealtime—would you honor me by joining me for dinner?” Chen Yanzi gazed at Lin Fan with sparkling eyes, her voice honeyed. Now, all she wanted was to cling tightly to this golden leg.
Lin Fan was considering using Chen Yanzi as another ‘tool’ for profit when, suddenly, Chen Yanzi rushed over and shoved Gu Qingcheng aside. “You shameless woman, stay away from my husband! Give back the villa he gave you, or you’ll regret it!”
Then, as if changing personalities, she turned to Lin Fan, smiling sweetly. “Honey, I was just joking with you earlier—I didn’t think you’d take it seriously. Don’t be mad, okay? I really, really love you. Let’s live happily together from now on.”
Gu Qingcheng’s face darkened. Never in her life had she been called such names in public. Her instinct was to retaliate immediately after being pushed, but on second thought, she decided to wait and see—she still wasn’t clear about Lin Fan’s feelings toward Chen Yanzi.
“Honey, I know I have a lot of faults, but I can change them all. From now on, I’ll handle all the housework, give you foot massages every night, and be the perfect wife and mother…”
At that, Wang Fang and Chen Wei also hurried over, scrambling to curry favor.
“Dear son-in-law, I knew from the moment I first saw you that you were extraordinary. Now that you and Yanzi are getting married, hurry up and have a baby. Don’t worry about a thing—I’ll look after the child, and you two can just enjoy your sweet married life together…”
“Brother-in-law, you’re amazing! My admiration for you is like a never-ending river. From now on, I’ll follow your lead—if you say go east, I’d never dare go west.” Chen Wei’s expression was thoroughly servile, already fantasizing about days filled with sports cars and beautiful women.
…
Watching the three of them put on their show, Lin Fan’s expression was cold, and he felt utterly disgusted. If he had no money, they’d have stomped him into the ground and spat on him. There’s no truer saying than: with the rich, it’s love; with the poor, it’s money.
Chen Yanzi glanced at Gu Qingcheng, who was eyeing Lin Fan like a hawk. Compared to her, Yanzi knew she fell short in both looks and figure. And since Lin Fan still hadn’t given an answer, she was genuinely anxious. Taking a deep breath, she reached out to grab Lin Fan’s arm.
“Honey, let’s go home, alright? If you’re angry or upset, take it out on me. I’ll serve you well…”
Lin Fan shook her off and sneered, “Don’t touch me. Wasn’t I clear enough? We’re done.”
With that, the stone in Gu Qingcheng’s chest finally dropped. Frankly, she’d been worried Lin Fan might soften and forgive Chen Yanzi, given how far their relationship had gone. But now, everything was settled.
She smiled sweetly, stepped forward, and hooked her arm through Lin Fan’s. “Miss, please stop pestering my boyfriend. We’re off to dinner.”
Chen Yanzi was so furious she nearly exploded, glaring at Gu Qingcheng and grinding her teeth. “You shameless woman! Lin Fan is my husband, not your boyfriend!”
Wang Fang and Chen Wei sided with Chen Yanzi and began cursing furiously.
Watching their antics, Lin Fan felt a deep sense of satisfaction and smiled at Gu Qingcheng. “Darling, pay them no mind. Let’s go eat.”
“Yes, there’s no point getting upset over people like that,” Gu Qingcheng replied, linking arms with him as they walked away.
