Chapter 41: I Like Zhao Qiang, and I’m Going to Marry Him
"Open your eyes wide and take a good look at this paternity test report!"
Zhao Hai threw the report heavily in front of Li Fengying, hoping she would look at it clearly.
"Where did this report come from? Isn't it supposed to be ready tomorrow? This report is fake. You're trying to fool me with a fake report just to cut ties with our Liu family? You're dreaming!"
As expected, Li Fengying refused to acknowledge the report at all; she only believed in the doctored version she was expecting tomorrow. As she spoke, she tore the report in two.
"You..." He Fen stood up, trembling with anger.
"It’s fake, so what’s the point of keeping it? I’ve done you a favor by disposing of it."
Li Fengying felt guilty about the report; she was certain the couple had secretly obtained it when she went to the police station last time. But now that she had torn it up, she no longer had to worry about the truth being exposed.
"Brother-in-law, your family's tricks are too clumsy!" Liu Shuangshuang giggled, her rolls of fat wobbling in a way that was revolting to watch.
"What are you even doing here?"
"My sister said she isn't used to the chicken soup bought outside, so she wants you to bring a bowl to the hospital tomorrow!"
The reason for their visit was that Liu Ruyan was craving chicken soup. During her pregnancy, He Fen had always been the one to prepare it, using silkie chicken and various nourishing ingredients, simmering it for hours until it was rich, fragrant, and delicious. Now that He Fen had stopped cooking for them, Liu Ruyan wanted the soup, but the store-bought versions couldn't compare. That was why Li Fengying had come to demand that He Fen prepare it.
"Liu Ruyan wants chicken soup? Then make it yourselves!" Zhao Qiang asked, his face darkening. "Do you not have hands? You need others to make soup for you?"
Hearing this, Li Fengying jumped up from her chair, hands on her hips, and shrieked with wide eyes, "Zhao Qiang, what kind of talk is that? My daughter bore children for your Zhao family, and now she just wants a bowl of soup, and you refuse to make it?"
Zhao Qiang retorted furiously, "Li Fengying, get your facts straight. Those two children are not mine at all. What right does Liu Ruyan have to demand soup from us?" He thought to himself, *And she expects my mother to make it for her? Does she deserve it?* The mere thought that Liu Ruyan was still insisting the children were his made Zhao Qiang livid; he wanted to slap her across the face.
"Our Zhao family has done all we could for Liu Ruyan, yet you are still being so aggressive." Zhao Hai grabbed a stick, ready to chase them out.
Liu Shuangshuang didn't back down, sticking her neck out and shouting, "Hmph, regardless, my sister is still in the hospital. You can't be this heartless. Either make the soup for us to take to the hospital now, or we aren't leaving!"
"It's so late, and you still want me to make you soup? Ha!" He Fen let out a cold snort, her face full of rage. "Even if I could, I wouldn't. I only cook for my daughter-in-law; others are simply not worthy!"
"Get out! Get out right now! Don't force me to use force!" Zhao Qiang glared, his eyes flashing with menace. He had seen shameless people before, but never anyone this shameless. Since Li Fengying wouldn't listen to reason, he wouldn't be polite anymore.
Suddenly, the bathroom door opened. Gao Lan stepped out and saw Li Fengying and Liu Shuangshuang. "Auntie..." Before she could finish, she realized there were outsiders in the house. No wonder it had been so noisy.
"It's you! I recognize you; you're the policewoman who arrested me that day!" Li Fengying identified Gao Lan instantly. "Well, well, Zhao Qiang, your whole family was hiding this from my daughter! You aren't even divorced yet, and you're already bringing other women home!" Li Fengying was incensed and lunged forward, intending to grab Gao Lan and have it out with her.
"Auntie, I'm leaving," Gao Lan said, not wanting to get entangled with such a madwoman.
"Don't you dare leave! Who told you that you could go? No wonder you helped the Zhao family that day and had me taken to the station; it was all a conspiracy!" Li Fengying shouted. "You pretend to be a policewoman, but in reality, you're just a mistress. I bet you've been hooking up with Zhao Qiang for a long time!" In her eyes, since the woman was eating at their house, she had to be in an intimate relationship with Zhao Qiang.
"Auntie Li, I suggest you watch your tongue," Gao Lan said, brushing Li Fengying's hand off and glaring at her.
"Watch my tongue? You look like a prim and proper policewoman, but I didn't expect you to be so loose. Dressed so provocatively, you're nothing but a vixen!" Li Fengying pointed at Gao Lan's clothes, hurling insults without mercy. Gao Lan was dressed normally, and as a policewoman, there were no strict rules for her off-duty attire. But to Li Fengying, it was scandalous, showing off arms and legs, which she deemed indecent.
Gao Lan couldn't take it anymore. She was a police officer, but Li Fengying's words were truly vile. "Your Liu family is going too far. You're clearly in the wrong, yet you're here twisting the truth."
Li Fengying glanced at Gao Lan and mocked, "Oh, and where did this little girl come from, sticking her nose into other people's business? If I didn't know better, I'd think you were here to have an affair with a married man!"
Gao Lan glared at her and said loudly, "So what if I'm a police officer? I just can't stand the way you bully honest people. Your daughter cheated on Zhao Qiang, yet you're here accusing others of having an affair. I only met Zhao Qiang at the hospital. Do you have any evidence that I'm sleeping with him? Let me tell you, don't think I have no temper. If you dare to spout such nonsense again, I will have you arrested and locked up at the station!"
Gao Lan was trembling with anger; she had truly never seen such an unreasonable mother-in-law. Her daughter had cheated, and instead of disciplining her, she came to harass the son-in-law's family. In that moment, she genuinely felt sorry for Zhao Qiang for having to deal with such a family.
"You, you... you're abusing your power for personal vendettas!" Li Fengying pointed a shaking finger at Gao Lan; she didn't want to go back to the police station.
"That's right, and what are you going to do about it? I am abusing my power. I don't like you, so what?" Without hesitation, Gao Lan pulled out her handcuffs and slammed them onto the table. Even though she was off duty, she still carried her gear. The "clack" of the metal made Li Fengying jump back; she had never expected Gao Lan to be this tough.
"Go ahead and call the police! If you're not going to call them, then get out and stop making a fool of yourself!" Ever since she became a police officer, Gao Lan had learned to restrain herself. Had it been her old self, she would have already taken physical action.
"You, you must be sleeping with Zhao Qiang! I know it!" Li Fengying shrieked.
"That's right, you heard correctly. I do like him," Gao Lan said, grabbing Zhao Qiang's arm. "Once Zhao Qiang divorces your daughter, Liu Ruyan, I will marry him. Just because your family doesn't value him doesn't mean others don't."
Zhao Qiang was stunned, but he quickly realized she was just acting. *She's acting, she must be acting.*
