Chapter 13: You’re All Dead
“You… you actually dared to hit me?”
“You’re dead! You’re so dead!”
“I, Zhang Hao, swear right here, I will—”
“Pfft—”
Before Zhang Hao could finish his threat, Hong Yu, still fuming, kicked him again—this time squarely in the head. Who could blame him? Zhang Hao was still spewing threats.
“Hao!”
“What the hell? What are you doing? Who are you? Where the hell are the security guards?”
Suddenly, a slightly plump woman in professional attire and glasses rushed out of the company’s glass doors.
The moment she saw Zhang Hao with blood streaming from his nose, she screamed and hurried over to help him up.
This curvy woman in glasses was none other than Huang Lili, whom Zhang Hao had just mentioned.
“Lili, don’t call security!” Lin Shuyu said anxiously. “Zhang Hao was just trying to take advantage of me—my husband saw it and that’s why he hit him.”
Huang Lili glared at her. “You think I’d believe that? It doesn’t matter who started it—you’ve already laid hands on him. What are you waiting for?”
“Tell your useless husband to get on his knees and apologize to Hao right now. Maybe then, for my sake, he’ll let him off.”
Zhang Hao was Huang Lili’s biggest client. If she got caught up in this, she’d probably want to wring Lin Shuyu and Hong Yu’s necks herself.
Of course, if she knew Zhang Hao had promised to transfer all his company’s business to Lin Shuyu just to tempt her, Huang Lili wouldn’t be defending him now—she’d probably be hiding behind the glass door, secretly cheering for Hong Yu.
Hong Yu was so angry he could kill Zhang Hao—how could he possibly apologize? He sneered coldly, “Apologize to you? Who the hell do you think you are? You think you have the right to speak here?”
Huang Lili’s eyes bulged with fury. “You pathetic wretch, aren’t you just a live-in son-in-law? How dare you talk to me like that?”
“Even your wife, Lin Shuyu, has to call me ‘Sister Lili’ when she sees me!”
After a couple of sentences, Huang Lili realized this man was too riled up to listen, so she turned to shout at Lin Shuyu: “Lin Shuyu! Make your useless husband apologize to Hao—on his knees! Otherwise, you’ll be held fully responsible for the company’s losses.”
Lin Shuyu had long been fed up with Huang Lili. Now she was expected to persuade Hong Yu to kneel and apologize? Impossible.
She retorted angrily, “I used to call you Sister Lili out of respect for your seniority in the company. Now, seeing you humiliate Hong Yu like this, you think I’d still bother with you?”
“And by the way, Hong Yu is not a pathetic loser!”
“You, selling yourself for contracts, are the real disgrace here!”
Having finally vented words she’d held inside for so long, Lin Shuyu felt a wave of relief.
But while she felt better, Huang Lili clenched her fists in rage.
Lin Shuyu’s words were harsh, but not untrue.
Looking at Zhang Hao’s lecherous appearance, anyone could tell he was a pervert. If Huang Lili hadn’t used her charms, how else could she have landed all the company’s orders from him?
“Damn you, what a useless excuse for a man!” Zhang Hao cursed, trembling as he pulled himself to his feet.
Barely standing, he jabbed a finger at Hong Yu. “You, a live-in son-in-law, dare lay a finger on me? Even if you were the legitimate son-in-law of the Lin family, if you so much as touched a hair on my head, I’d still ruin you!”
“If you’ve got the guts, stick around. Give me ten minutes and I’ll—”
“Pfft—”
Before he could finish, Hong Yu’s fist crashed into his face.
Zhang Hao staggered back, nearly bowling over Huang Lili.
“Damn it! You’re dead! Even if you kneel and beg now, it’s too late. I’ll never let you off!”
“Your wife, your whole family, the entire Lin family—they’ll all pay!”
Zhang Hao, afraid he’d get beaten even worse if he stayed, spat out his threats and tried to hurry back to his car clutching his stomach.
Huang Lili immediately followed. “Hao, if you want to blame anyone, blame Lin Shuyu and that useless husband of hers. This has nothing to do with me or the company, I swear!”
“Get lost! You’re no better, Huang Lili.” Zhang Hao, still furious, shoved her aside and sped off.
“Bastard! All men are trash!” Huang Lili cursed, then spun around and shouted at Lin Shuyu, “Impressive, aren’t you, Lin Shuyu! Do you realize the trouble you’ve caused?”
“Zhang Hao is the eldest grandson of the Zhang family. You dare hit him? Now you’ll suffer!”
“It’s one thing if you two get yourselves killed, but don’t drag me and the company down with you!”
“Just wait, I’ll definitely report this. Pack your things and get ready to leave!”
Lin Shuyu laughed indifferently. “Go ahead and report. If the company would really fire me for you and Zhang Hao, then it’s not worth staying at all.”
“Hmph! We’ll see how tough you talk tomorrow!” Huang Lili scoffed, then walked off. Hong Yu’s glare was growing dangerous—she had no intention of testing whether he’d hit a woman, given how he’d just pummeled Zhang Hao.
“I don’t even know what to say to you,” she muttered.
Clap, clap, clap—
Just as Lin Shuyu stepped up to Hong Yu, about to advise him not to be so impulsive in the future, applause mingled with laughter rang out.
Both she and Hong Yu turned to see Lin Shufeng standing beside a BMW, watching them with a sly grin.
“Well, wasn’t that a spectacle,” she drawled.
“Didn’t expect you had it in you, brother-in-law. You get mocked a few times and start throwing punches, yet when Auntie and little Qi used to nag you, you just stood there and took it?”
Lin Shufeng looked delighted; clearly, the embarrassment of the previous day was all but forgotten.
What a fool, Hong Yu thought.
Let her laugh, he mused. Soon enough she’ll have nothing to laugh about.
He kept this to himself—no response, no anger.
He’d seen Lin Shuqing and Zhao Minghui leave together that day. Knowing their character, he could guess what would happen next.
Lin Shufeng, still oblivious to her own cousin’s betrayal, was out here strutting around. Hong Yu almost felt sorry for her.
After a moment, Lin Shufeng asked, “Shuyu, did you get the message from Grandpa too?”
Lin Shuyu nodded, not particularly eager to engage.
“It’s almost time, and you’re still lingering here?” Lin Shufeng sighed. “Come on, take my BMW. If you drive that electric scooter of yours, you’ll probably run out of power halfway.”
Lin Shuyu shook her head, about to refuse, but to her surprise, Hong Yu took her hand and agreed on their behalf.
“Pathetic,” Lin Shufeng sneered, then slid into her BMW.
Annoyed by Hong Yu’s presumption, Lin Shuyu grabbed his arm and whispered, “What are you doing? After all her mocking, you’re not even angry, and now you want to ride in her car?”
Hong Yu glanced at Lin Shufeng, still preening in her BMW, and suddenly smiled. “Just let it go. Maybe we should pity her a little.”
“Besides, the scooter really is almost out of power.”
