Chapter 66: Is This Enough?
“What the hell is going on here?”
“Did I hear that right?”
“This bastard Hong Yu’s gone crazy again. Grandpa’s just too kind, actually letting this lunatic stay for dinner!”
“Let them leave. If they stay any longer, who knows what kind of trouble they’ll stir up.”
The Lin family glared fiercely at Hong Yu. The family head, Lin Jiahao, immediately stood up and roared, “No respect for your elders—Hong Yu, are you an animal?”
After cursing at Hong Yu, Lin Jiahao quickly turned to Zhang Tian. “Chairman Zhang, my apologies. Hong Yu isn’t really one of us—he’s just a son-in-law. His manners are lacking, so please don’t take offense.”
Zhang Tian didn’t respond, his expression dark as iron.
The Lin family thought Zhang Tian was displeased.
But in reality, at that moment, Zhang Tian was silently cursing the Lin family for their stupidity. They even went so far as to call Hong Yu an animal.
If not for Lin Shuyu being a member of their family, that insult alone would have been enough to bring the Lin family to ruin.
Off to the side, Lin Shufeng sneered, “Hong Yu, are you an idiot? Do you even know where this is? That’s the seat of honor! Where’s your place?”
Hong Yu glanced at the shabby table and chuckled. “That wretched seat is better left for you. Aren’t you going to get up?”
Get up?
Was Hong Yu really going to make the old man and those two go sit at the broken table?
The Lin family was stunned, but this time their patience snapped.
The younger ones even sprang to their feet, ready to start a fight.
Just then, Chen Tiancheng suddenly stepped forward. Seeing him, the Lin family dared not start a brawl, but they all pointed at Hong Yu and shouted abuse.
“Are you a dog? Do you know where you are? If you want to bark, can’t you find somewhere else?”
“Hong Yu, do you believe I won’t have someone take care of you? For a piece of trash like you, there’s plenty of people willing if the price is right.”
“If it weren’t for the rules at Tianlan Hotel, you’d already be dead—do you understand?”
“Apologize to Grandpa and to Xiao Hui and Xiao Feng, or the next time you step outside, I’ll make sure you end up dead in a ditch!”
“Kneel! Apologize right now!”
“Kneel! Apologize!”
“Kneel! Apologize!”
The Lin family actually started chanting in unison. Hong Yu let out a cold laugh; this was too childish for words.
But Lin Shuyu, standing by his side, was trembling in fear. She and Hong Yu had often been ostracized and ridiculed by the Lin family, but never had she seen such a show of force, such a coordinated chant.
She tugged at Hong Yu’s sleeve. “Hong Yu, maybe we should apologize…”
Hong Yu shook his head, then pointed at the Lin family and sneered, “Do you think chanting slogans will change anything? Things are going to go exactly as I say.”
“Old man Lin, and you two—go sit over there. Now.”
Seeing Hong Yu’s stubbornness, the Lin family nearly burst a blood vessel from rage.
The old man was already struggling to catch his breath, so Lin Jiahao had no choice but to turn to Chen Tiancheng for help.
“Mr. Chen, you see what’s happening here? It’s not that we Lin family members are unreasonable. We already let Hong Yu stay for dinner, and now he wants my father, my sister, and my brother-in-law to go sit at that tiny table. What kind of host treats their guests like that?”
Chen Tiancheng sneered, “You’re right, but the problem is—the Lin family isn’t the host here.”
At those words, the entire Lin family was stunned.
Lin Jiahao quickly recovered, though. “Yes, yes, Mr. Chen is right. We’re not the hosts today; this banquet wasn’t arranged by us.”
Saying this, Lin Jiahao turned to the calm and collected Zhang Tian.
“Chairman Zhang, things have gotten out of hand. As the host, you should say something.”
Zhang Tian looked up at Hong Yu. Only when Hong Yu nodded did he smile and reply, “Why are you coming to me? I’m not the host tonight.”
“What?” The Lin family erupted in astonishment.
“Chairman Zhang, don’t joke around. The invitation was sent in your name, and you’re the highest-ranking person here. If you’re not the host, who is?” Lin Jiahao pressed urgently.
Zhang Tian responded sarcastically, “That’s just your imagination. When did I ever say I was the host of this banquet?”
“Absolutely not. Don’t slander me. If I were throwing a banquet, I certainly wouldn’t invite garbage like the Lin family!”
The Lin family stared, wide-eyed. Zhang Tian had been nothing but polite before, and their relationship seemed cordial enough. But ever since Hong Yu arrived, Zhang Tian seemed to have changed. It was one thing for him to keep quiet and not take their side, but now he was openly insulting them as trash?
Backed by the Yulong Zhao family, the Lin family saw no need to show Zhang Tian any respect now.
“We called you Chairman Zhang out of courtesy, but to think you’d actually say such things!”
“I saw the invitation with my own eyes. Your name was on it—what’s the point of denying it now?”
“So what if you don’t care about the Lin family, Zhang Tian? Are you telling me you don’t care about the Zhao family either? Who do you think you are?”
“Xiao Hui, call your father right now. I refuse to believe Zhang Tian can keep talking this way!”
“Heh, Zhang Tian, I don’t know why you’re acting like this, but I’ll give you one last chance. Just drive Hong Yu out, and we’ll pretend none of this ever happened.”
The Lin family pressed in, their aggression making Zhang Tian laugh aloud.
“Hahaha! You Lin family trash really don’t know your place.”
“Let me tell you, I’ve never taken your family seriously. You’re just a minor clan—I could have crushed you with a snap of my fingers.”
Lin Shufeng angrily stood and shouted, “Zhang Tian, stop acting so high and mighty! Sure, the Zhang family is above us, but don’t forget, the Zhao family stands behind us!”
At that, Zhao Minghui broke out in a cold sweat.
He never expected the Lin family to act as if they were the Zhao family’s underlings. Didn’t they realize that at best, the Zhao family could only stand toe-to-toe with the Zhang family? Where did they find the courage to confront Zhang Tian like this?
Remembering his father’s earlier warning, Zhao Minghui hurried forward to mediate. “Everyone, calm down. Stop arguing.”
“Chairman Zhang, please don’t take their words to heart. Actually—”
Lin Shufeng interrupted impatiently, “Husband, why are you afraid of Zhang Tian?”
“Didn’t he just say he could wipe out the Lin family with a flick of his hand? Fine. Call your family right now and show him what it means to have the tables turned.”
Zhao Minghui snapped, “Shut up! When men are talking, women shouldn’t interrupt.”
Lin Shufeng stared in disbelief, but just as she was about to explode, Hong Yu interrupted impatiently, “Are you all done yet?”
“If you’re finished, the old man and you two disgraceful parasites can go eat at that broken table now.”
No one expected Hong Yu to stick to his demand even now.
Lin Shuqing and her aunt roared, “Hong Yu, have you lost your mind? You want Grandpa and the others to eat at that broken table? Who do you think you are—some useless deadbeat?”
Hong Yu looked at Lin Shuyu and suddenly smiled. “I’m the host of this banquet. Is that good enough for you?”
