Chapter Fifteen: Are You Going to Kill Me? (Please Bookmark and Continue Reading~)
The ominous black mist made Gu Sihui’s body hair stand on end. She took two steps back, wary. “W-what do you want? I warn you, don’t act recklessly!”
Teng Qu remained silent, his black eyes growing colder and more detached.
It seemed the emotions that once belonged to a human had been completely abandoned, replaced by mechanical coldness.
He raised his hand, and the black mist, like living ribbons, slowly drifted toward Gu Sihui.
The shadow of death descended, and Gu Sihui’s vision blurred with waves of whiteness.
“Cough, cough…”
On the ground, Shao Feichen struggled against the drug’s effects, awakening with difficulty, but a familiar pungent scent reached him.
The aroma was sickly sweet, almost choking.
On the other side, Luan Yingyu was the first to notice something was wrong. She immediately warned, “Poison! Hold your breath!”
“Damn it! Teng Qu, do you want to kill me?” Shao Feichen moved slightly, realizing he was tied up. He struggled to lift his head and cursed at Teng Qu.
Startled, Teng Qu instinctively retracted the poisonous mist and looked confusedly at the crazed Shao Feichen.
“You’re… not dead?”
Shao Feichen clawed at the ropes binding him, tearing them apart. He sprang to his feet, immediately grabbing the limp Gu Sihui and pressing his finger near her nostrils.
Feeling the faint breath beneath his fingertip, his face gradually paled.
“Heh, you’re alive now, but that might not last long.”
He gave Teng Qu a bitter, mocking smile.
Teng Qu knew he had made a mistake and lowered his head in shame. “I’m sorry. I thought she was going to harm you, so…”
“So you decided to take matters into your own hands and die with us?” Shao Feichen laughed bitterly.
But this was no time to argue. If Gu Sihui truly died, they were all doomed.
He was still young and had many things he hadn’t experienced yet. Shao Feichen didn’t want to die—not at all.
“Do you know how to counteract the poison you released?” Shao Feichen asked.
Teng Qu fell silent for a moment, then turned his back.
He lifted his shirt at the chest, closing his eyes. A magnificent patch of black scales slowly emerged from his chest.
The ink-black scales shimmered under the light like radiant jewels.
Teng Qu clenched his jaw tightly and forcibly tore off one of the scales. Blood immediately seeped through the thin fabric, leaving a damp stain on his dark robe.
“Take this.”
The scale in Teng Qu’s hand shifted shapes, eventually transforming into a single drop of liquid.
Shao Feichen was stunned. “Isn’t that your heart-protecting scale?!”
Heart-protecting scales held extraordinary significance for the dragon, flood dragon, and python clans.
Receiving a heart-protecting scale willingly given by a dragon, flood dragon, or python came with numerous benefits.
Previously, the antagonist female had begged Teng Qu for it, but he had refused no matter what—one of the reasons she despised him.
Something he had never wanted to give away was now willingly offered. Shao Feichen found it incredible.
“This works the fastest,” Teng Qu said tersely.
“There must be other ways,” Shao Feichen hesitated, reluctant to accept it, feeling an inexplicable discomfort.
It was as if giving the scale to Gu Sihui would make her bond with Teng Qu closer than with them.
For some unknown reason, just the thought of that made Shao Feichen resist.
But the situation was urgent; there was no time for other plans.
Gu Sihui suddenly coughed up a mouthful of fresh blood, her breath weakening instantly.
At that moment, faint red collars appeared simultaneously on the necks of Shao Feichen, Gong Zhengqing, Teng Qu, and Ying Nian, as if countless red threads tightened around their hearts, threatening to tear them apart at any second.
Meanwhile, Xi Mo, who was tending the stove and helping Bai Nanyan stew soup, suddenly froze mid-motion.
“Bang!”
The ladle fell, thick soup splattering everywhere.
Xi Mo staggered, clutching his chest as he half-kneelingly collapsed to the ground. His forehead struck the stove, blood trickling down and staining his left eye red.
He barely held back his transformation into a fox form. White fur sprouted from his cheeks, fangs bared in a momentary grimace—frightening to behold.
“Ah!”
Bai Nanyan entered, startled by Xi Mo’s appearance. She stepped back cautiously, uncertain, and called out, “Xi… Xi Mo? What’s wrong?”
Clutching his chest, Xi Mo gradually regained awareness.
At this moment, he had returned to his youthful, handsome human form, though his expression held a fleeting confusion.
“What just happened?”
Gu Sihui’s condition left Shao Feichen no time to think. Just as he reached for the heart-protecting scale to feed her, Teng Qu acted first, swiftly injecting the scale into her body.
“Whoosh—”
Gu Sihui’s eyes suddenly snapped open, like someone who had been suffocating finally breathing fresh air, taking a deep, desperate breath.
Her eyes widened as she instinctively grabbed the arm of the nearest person, clinging like a drowning person to a last piece of driftwood, dependent and unwilling to let go.
Teng Qu’s expression was complex. His gaze settled on the slender hand gripping tightly into his arm muscles, veins bulging. He muttered softly, “I’m sorry.”
Gu Sihui’s blank mind slowly cleared. Her eyes traveled inch by inch to Teng Qu, instantly reddening.
“Smack!”
Teng Qu’s face was struck to the side, swelling quickly.
He pressed his numb cheek with his tongue but said nothing.
“Why do you treat me like this?”
Gu Sihui’s voice was hoarse and unpleasant, filled with anger and grievance.
She felt incredibly unfortunate—why had she been thrown into this dangerous world, constantly fearing for her life?
All she wanted was to survive. Was that so difficult?
Gu Sihui wanted to say she wasn’t the original antagonist; she hadn’t wronged them or hurt them in any way. If they promised not to harm her, she would rather sever ties with all of them, keep her distance, and never meet any of them again.
But she couldn’t. Every time she tried to speak the truth, some accident interrupted her voice or rendered her unable to speak.
Yet why should she pay for the antagonist’s past deeds?
All she wanted was to live. Why was it so difficult?
The more she thought about it, the more aggrieved she felt. Suddenly, she burst into tears.
Shao Feichen and Teng Qu exchanged glances.
They had imagined countless possibilities after her awakening—she might go mad, become even more vengeful, torment them in return.
They had thought of everything except this—Gu Sihui would cry.
This cruel, ruthless woman, seemingly invincible and never known to be sad, was crying!
Tears fell like pearls broken from their strings, crying hysterically and heart-wrenchingly, as if she had suffered immense wrongs.
Shao Feichen and Teng Qu looked at each other, both seeing the same bewilderment reflected in the other’s eyes.
“All right, all right, no more crying, okay?”
At some point, Luan Yingyu, having freed herself from her bonds, gently embraced Gu Sihui. A soft, sunlit warmth radiated from him, bathing them both in gentle light.
