Chapter 82: The Will to Kill
A cup of hot coffee was poured over the girl's hair. The young man who threw it cursed, "Damn woman, did you think hiding here would keep me from finding you? Where's your protector? Go ahead, bring them here. Try it again, I dare you."
So it was all just a deliberate provocation.
Chen Aijia glanced at the restaurant manager. Shouldn’t the restaurant do something about people like this?
The manager maintained a formulaic smile and explained to Chen Aijia that the girl had only started working at the restaurant a few days ago. She had originally helped out in the kitchen, but with the business declining and several waiters resigning, she’d been promoted to the front as a server because she was diligent and capable.
"The customer is always right," the manager recited, his face expressionless. "She brought this upon herself. According to restaurant policy, she must compensate for all damages, including any harm to the restaurant’s reputation." Internally, he was likely cursing—just eat your meal, why meddle in other people’s business?
The girl kept bowing, repeating apologies.
"If ‘sorry’ fixed anything, why would we need the police? My brother’s suit alone costs tens of thousands to clean. Forget it—after your shift, you come with us and wash his clothes clean. Consider yourself lucky this time." The young man tapped the coffee cup with his knife and fork. The indifference of the diners and the inaction of the staff only fueled his arrogance. He even reached for the girl’s waist.
She quickly stepped back. The head waiter snapped, "Why are you backing away? Forgotten the restaurant’s rules? Five thousand a month—do you think you’re here to play princess? Go on, apologize properly to the customer."
Suddenly, the glass doors were shoved open from outside, and a cold voice sounded: "What if I don’t agree?"
Chen Aijia was startled and delighted. She saw Yang Changfeng standing at the entrance with Anya, who carried a plastic shopping bag.
The two had just been buying household necessities at the supermarket when Yang Changfeng received a message from Xu Jie’er: she was at the Eiffel, confronted by the gang that used to harass her, demanding compensation because they had deliberately spilled coffee on one of their leader’s clothes.
If there was anyone in the world Yang Changfeng cared about, Xu Jie’er was the first. The family of an old comrade was his own family.
Furious, Yang Changfeng nearly forgot to pay at the supermarket, grabbed Anya, and rushed straight to the Eiffel.
Anya was puzzled—this girl was indeed beautiful. What was her connection to Yang, that he was so anxious for her?
"Brother!" Seeing Yang Changfeng, Xu Jie’er burst into tears. Only now did she realize she still had someone she could rely on in this world.
Only minutes ago, she had little hope when she sent that message, never expecting him to arrive so quickly.
Yang Changfeng’s heart trembled. He beckoned her, "Sister, come here. We’re done with this miserable job."
He ripped off the server’s uniform and glanced coldly at the stern-faced manager. "Are you the manager here?"
"Yes. Who are you? If you wish to dine, please take a seat. Don’t cause—" The manager pushed aside the servers trying to block Yang.
Those servers were frantic, wishing they could warn the manager—this man was not someone to provoke!
Yang Changfeng flung the uniform, wrapping it around the manager’s head.
"Is your boss not here?" Yang Changfeng recognized one of the staff, pointing at him. "Best tell your boss—sooner or later, I’ll destroy this place."
He grabbed the manager by the collar and tossed him aside, his face dark and cold. He strode to the table where the gang sat. They remembered him well; seeing him arrive, they shrank back in terror. The young man who had reached for the girl grinned sheepishly, "Big brother, it’s all a misunderstanding—a joke, really."
Yang Changfeng sneered, seized the young man’s arm, and, under the horrified gaze of the patrons, twisted it backward with a sharp crack. He broke the man’s arm—truly broke it—the elbow bent the wrong way, bone protruding white and jagged through torn flesh.
"This is my only family, my sister. I warned you, but you didn’t listen. I had no choice. Last time you paid the price; this time, you pay with your life." Yang Changfeng showed no mercy, repeated the move on the other arm, then lifted the man by the collar, holding him high.
The man howled in agony, begging desperately for mercy.
"Mercy is easy—bring me your life first!" With a violent slam, Yang Changfeng threw him to the ground. Any normal person would be finished; the man rolled twice, then lay still, bloodied and unmoving.
Yang Changfeng picked up a steak knife and pointed it at the gang leader. Calmly, he said, "I’m going to cut your throat. You can start running now—from here to the door, you’ll see your head fall from your shoulders. Enjoy your last half-minute of life. Die!"
He saw Chen Aijia, standing beside someone of striking appearance and bearing. In his heart, he understood—she really was driving him away.
Perhaps it was for the best. Anya was right: when all the birds are gone, the bow is stored; when the cunning hare dies, the hound is cooked. Wang Hu was no longer able to oppose her, so naturally she no longer needed him.
Rage surged in his chest—Yang Changfeng wanted only blood, only violence could quench his fury.
Xu Jie’er was terrified. She hadn’t wanted Yang Changfeng to avenge her, only to stop these people from troubling her again.
Murder—how could that be allowed?
"Brother, don’t kill anyone, that’s against the law. Just make sure they don’t come back." Xu Jie’er hurriedly pushed Anya aside and clung to Yang Changfeng’s arm, her tears not yet dried, her eyes red—there was relief, but also fear.
She was still afraid of retaliation.
"It’s alright. They won’t show up again. If they’re dead, the world is peaceful." Yang Changfeng raised his voice, "Everyone, before you understand what’s happening, I ask you not to post videos or photos. I have no special skills—only a willingness to fight to the death. If anyone causes trouble for me, I’ll fight with everything I have. You all have families and livelihoods—don’t bring trouble on yourselves, alright?"
The would-be videographers froze. Yes, they had families—getting entangled with a desperado like him would ruin them.
Xu Jie’er whispered, "But, brother…"
The gang leader, sensing Yang Changfeng’s murderous intent, immediately knelt, kowtowed frantically to Xu Jie’er, slapping his own face, begging, "Miss Xu, it’s my fault, I’m not human, I was blind. Please forgive us—we’ll never bother you again. No, we’ll leave Jiangzhou right away, we’ll leave immediately and never return. Spare us, please!"
Xu Jie’er hesitated. She dared not contradict Yang Changfeng—after all, he wasn’t truly her brother.
