Chapter 90: Time to Show Off
Sun Zhaoxing was still uneasy, and asked in a low voice, “How sure are you, really? Just how much confidence do you have?”
Yang Changfeng took a towel from his pocket and let out a long, wistful sigh. “Looks like it’s time to put on a show. Move aside, I’m driving now. Schoolboys, get out. This isn’t the road to kindergarten.”
What did that even mean?
Yang Changfeng patted Sun Zhaoxing on the shoulder. “Relax. Since this brat still refuses to give up, then let him spend the rest of his life afraid of heartbreak.”
He stuffed the towel back into his pocket and waved at Ma Siwei. “Well, well, you’re here too.”
After glancing twice at Andrei Ivanov, whose nostrils were flaring with fury, Ma Siwei frowned. “Mr. Yang, so it’s you taking part in the race. Don’t you think this is absurd?”
“Yeah, it is absurd. Who would dare come challenge the grand lord himself? I haven’t touched a car in ages, so the pressure is pretty big.” Yang Changfeng smiled broadly as he helped Chen Aijia and Anya up into the stands. Then he reminded them, “It’s rare to get such a good chance to show off. Keep your eyes wide open.”
Chen Aijia said coquettishly, “So I can watch you lose?”
What a hopeless thing to say. This woman deserved a spanking.
Sun Zhaoxing hurriedly barked, “Don’t say such depressing things. We have to believe in him.” Then he turned and asked, “Right, bro?”
The stands were already buzzing with conversation. Many people greeted Chen Aijia, and Mary Su had originally wanted to sneer, but seeing the scene, she quickly asked her sponsor who those two women were.
The sponsor gave a bitter smile. “You don’t even know her, and you still think you have any future? She’s Jiangzhou’s leading young entrepreneur. As for her net worth, how should I put it... In your little backwater, she’d easily make the top ten. Maybe even top five is a conservative estimate.”
Money. So much money.
In Mary Su’s eyes, Chen Aijia was no longer merely a girl she envied to the point of madness. She was money. Uncountable money. Enough to fill an entire strait.
Chen Aijia recognized Ma Siwei and smiled as she extended her hand. “Hello.”
Ma Siwei did not dare be rude. She hurriedly and modestly replied, “To think President Chen would know me. I’m truly honored.”
What Chen Aijia really meant by those two words, Hello, was this: Little bitch, tell me how you know the man named Yang, and what your relationship is with him.
The quiet war between women could never be fully portrayed on television. From ancient times to the present, women’s battles have sparked men’s battles, and then battles in which crowns fell and heads rolled. That has always been far too common.
With the arrival of truly influential young figures in the stands, the atmosphere grew much more solemn, especially since Chen Aijia belonged to the camp of the rich young elite from the capital, which made everything even more complicated.
The nominal owner of the track, and also the chief referee for this race, a middle-aged woman with an exceptionally fine figure, came over to ask whether they could begin.
Sun Zhaoxing gritted his teeth and gave a sharp wave. “Then let’s begin. The sooner we race, the sooner we settle the winner. I’m in a hurry to go home and count money.”
He had given up in despair, or so many thought with contempt. If they did not slap the faces of those bumpkins from the capital until they swelled, then there would be no place for them in Jiangzhou’s circle.
It was not hard to understand why they looked down on Sun Zhaoxing’s challenge. Who was Andrei Ivanov? Anyone in the underground racing world knew his name. And who was this man who dared call himself the grand lord himself?
A nobody. And not even a particularly reassuring nobody at that. He was going to beat Andrei Ivanov? Dream on. Perhaps only in dreams would that be possible.
Sun Zhaoxing steeled himself. If Yang Changfeng really won, he would demand money from those rich second-generation brats at once. Not a minute’s delay!
Andrei Ivanov had his own team. They helped him into his racing suit, and he sent Yang Changfeng a provocative thumbs-down from afar. The stands erupted in cheers.
Lan Yiheng was the loudest of them all, shouting, “Andrei, kill him! Kill that bumpkin!”
Sun Zhaoxing gave him a cool glance. From this point on, anyone in the capital who dared use this man would no longer have any place in the capital’s circles.
How could he have known that, in Lan Yiheng’s eyes, Yang Changfeng was merely a driver Sun Zhaoxing had found? Once he lost in a moment, the outcome would probably be ugly indeed. And Lan Yiheng, who fancied himself well connected, truly did not think that a second-generation official’s son like Sun Zhaoxing had any real weight.
Thus, his next days would be miserable indeed.
Yang Changfeng sat in the car. After starting the engine, the Raptor’s motor drove the chassis to life, and he felt a wild surge of power roiling through it. These two modified Raptors were born for the track; they should not be kept in a garage as mere ornaments. Their lives belonged on the racetrack, where they could blaze.
Someone came to knock on the car window. It was a staff member from the racing venue, holding a camera. With an apologetic look, he said, “Sir, for the audience to watch the race better, and also to supervise that you and Mr. Andrei Ivanov follow the regulations properly, we need to install cameras in the car. Please understand.”
No problem. If he was going to put on a show, how could he let people fail to see it clearly? Yang Changfeng very generously opened the door and let two staff members come in to install the surveillance equipment.
This guy had not even changed into professional racing gear, and he had not even put on a proper racing helmet!
The stands burst into laughter again. This one was as good as won.
Sun Zhaoxing’s expression was grave, and his heart was deeply uneasy.
Chen Aijia whispered, “Don’t worry. He isn’t the sort of person without temper. Since he’s this relaxed, he must be confident.”
But the more relaxed he seemed, the less I dare feel at ease. I’ve never seen anyone so unprofessional!
Sun Zhaoxing’s mouth was bitter. At this point, he could only pray to gods and immortals for blessing. He did not expect Yang Changfeng to perform miracles; he only hoped that Ivanov would completely fall apart.
The grand name of the grand lord himself was indeed a calling card, but after all, he had not been in contact with racing for a very long time, while his opponent had been training on the track almost every day. As one side weakened and the other strengthened, could the grand lord still preserve the form he once had?
The cameras faithfully projected the drivers’ condition onto the giant screen in real time. Andrei Ivanov wore a stern expression and muttered under his breath, as if in prayer, and everyone took that as his habit.
Yang Changfeng was looking around. Suddenly, he drove the Raptor to the starting line beneath a stretched banner, and then did something that left everyone horrified and made them leap to their feet.
He took the towel from his pocket once more, then unhurriedly tied it over his own eyes.
Had he gone mad?
He wanted to race Andrei Ivanov, one of the very best in the field, blindfolded?
Was there even a second person in this world so outrageously arrogant?
Sun Zhaoxing was so frightened he nearly bit through his own tongue. He knew Yang Changfeng was bold, but he had never imagined he could be bold to this extent.
No wonder he kept saying he was going to put on a show. So this time, he really was going to blind everyone present.
