Chapter Two: My First Kiss Stolen by the Class Belle

A bitter smile played across Shi Bai’s lips. He recognized the two girls approaching—one was Liu Feifei, the class belle, and the other was her deskmate Zhang Tongtong.

Shi Bai remembered Liu Feifei vividly; after all, he’d secretly admired her in his previous life, though she had never spared him a glance. Later, he heard she got into an ordinary university, married a second-generation heir, and lived a decent enough life.

But Liu Feifei was not the woman Shi Bai liked most. In his memories of his past life, the woman he cherished most was Xia Qing.

Xia Qing was both an exemplary student and a beauty. Shi Bai had never dared harbor hopes for her, but by some twist of fate, they became deskmates for a while and, unexpectedly, got along quite well.

Shi Bai had often thought, if only his family’s circumstances were better, if only his grades were higher, if only he were a bit more handsome—maybe, just maybe, they could have been together.

But life offered no such ifs. In his previous life, he was a complete failure, and Xia Qing transferred away after her first year of high school. Later, she was admitted to the prestigious Haida University, studied abroad after two years, and eventually returned home to start her own company. He’d heard she never married.

At this thought, Shi Bai clenched his fists tightly. “I was useless in my past life, but this time, things will be different! Xia Qing, just wait for me!”

He soon found his classroom—Class One of the senior year. His classmates still wore the innocence of youth. Suppressing the urge to rush over and pinch their cheeks, Shi Bai found his seat and sat down.

“Let me sort things out,” he sighed softly.

“First, I need to make my dad buy a house.”

He remembered this year very clearly—the housing market would double in three months. His father could have bought a house, but was swayed by so-called experts who insisted prices would fall. In the end, they missed their chance and could never afford one again.

Regretful, his father tried to make money through investments, but not only did he lose everything, he ended up owing hundreds of thousands. The family fell apart, and his father never recovered.

Shi Bai gritted his teeth. “Thank goodness I’m back. This year, no matter what, I have to make Dad buy a house!”

Thinking about buying a house reminded Shi Bai of making money. Apparently, he could exchange “failure points” for cash in the Failure Value Shop. He quickly opened it.

One failure point could be exchanged for one hundred yuan.

He checked his current balance—he had one hundred points.

“One hundred?” Shi Bai was puzzled. “Why one hundred points?”

“This is your starting allotment,” the system chimed in unbidden. “It’s to prevent you from acting too successfully and dropping to zero.”

“Dropping to zero? What happens if I hit zero?” Shi Bai was clueless about this concept.

“You die,” the system replied coolly.

Shi Bai was stunned. “That’s so strict!”

“If a game has no difficulty, where’s the fun?” the system retorted. “Besides, for you, isn’t failure second nature?”

Shi Bai thought about it—indeed, that had been the story of his life. When had he ever succeeded? He snapped his fingers, accepting his fate. “Got it. The Only-Failure-No-Success System.”

“As long as you understand,” the system replied. “Ready for your first task?”

“My first task?” Shi Bai’s heart began to race. “I’m… ready!”

“Good. Your first system task: Kiss the class belle, Liu Feifei.”

“…”

Even though Shi Bai had prepared himself mentally, he hadn’t expected such a task.

“Starting off this bold… isn’t that a bit much?” Shi Bai asked nervously.

“You have one day. If you fail, you’ll lose fifty failure points,” the system declared, utterly unmoved by his feelings.

Shi Bai scratched his head in agitation. “Kiss her? So, to do the opposite would be to act in a way that makes it absolutely impossible to kiss her…”

“And what might that be?”

“The opposite of the class belle… an ugly girl?”

“No,” the system interjected. “An ugly boy.”

Shi Bai’s pupils widened in shock as an unavoidable thought flashed through his mind.

“Is this system a scam?”

“Believe it or not,” the system replied, as if hearing his thoughts, “but I must remind you, this is a mainline task. If you refuse, the system will sever its connection with you, and you’ll return to your previous life.”

“What?” Shi Bai frowned. No matter what, he didn’t want to go back.

After a long inner struggle, he gritted his teeth. “Fine, I’ll do it!”

In Class Two, none of the boys were particularly good-looking, but when it came to being unattractive, one of them truly stood out. His name was Hu Wangtang, nicknamed “Spicy Soup.” Short, fat, dark, and covered in pimples.

As if his looks weren’t bad enough, he liked to douse himself in his father’s old cologne, giving off a bizarre smell that made all the girls avoid him.

Hu Wangtang sat diagonally ahead of Shi Bai, who could clearly see his profile under the classroom lights—every pimple and stray hair in stark relief.

Shi Bai nearly gagged.

“Damn! This is seriously difficult!” The thought of having to kiss Hu Wangtang made Shi Bai’s stomach turn. It was as if the task would kill him.

“Damn it! But if I don’t, I’ll lose everything!” Shi Bai clenched his jaw, slammed his desk, and resolved, “The system will turn my defeat into victory anyway. I’ll risk it!”

Like a hawk swooping on a rabbit, or a venomous snake striking a mouse, Shi Bai rushed to Hu Wangtang at lightning speed, lowering his head to kiss him.

But the dreadful moment never came. Just as his lips were a centimeter away, someone soft collided with him, knocking him sideways. Both of them tumbled to the floor, and their mouths, by sheer accident, met.

A clear “smack” sounded as their lips parted.

The classroom fell into dead silence…

It turned out, the soft figure was Liu Feifei.

For reasons unknown, she had suddenly run over and knocked Shi Bai aside.

“Waaah!” Liu Feifei nearly leapt back to her seat, her face as red as an apple, burying it in her arms. “Waaah… my first kiss… it’s gone!”

Shi Bai, utterly bewildered, got up and rubbed his sore backside. “Hey, why are you crying? I lost my first kiss too!”

But as soon as he said it, he felt a chill down his spine—over thirty pairs of red, wolfish eyes were glaring at him.

Shi Bai almost shivered. “It wasn’t my fault, she came over herself!” He hurried out of the classroom.

“Good grief, I’ve become a public enemy.” He grimaced, though a smile crept onto his face.

“It must’ve been the system’s mysterious power steering events, making Liu Feifei and me kiss. If that’s the case, then all this is real—the system’s not lying to me!”

The excitement nearly made him jump for joy.

“Congratulations on completing your first mainline task. Reward: 100 failure points,” the system announced.

“One hundred points!” Shi Bai was overjoyed. He quickly opened the item shop—sure enough, his total was now 200 points.

“One failure point equals one hundred yuan—two hundred points is twenty thousand yuan!” Shi Bai was ecstatic. “It looks like I’ll never have to worry about money again!”

“Second mainline task,” the system interrupted before he could celebrate, “Earn one million yuan within a month.”

“What?” Shi Bai was stunned. “To earn a million… so the opposite is to spend a million?”

“No,” the system corrected him. “The opposite is to lose a million.”
