Chapter Thirty-Three: The Overbearing Li Yue'e

The entire hall was stunned, even Shi Bai was left speechless. Those who can endure humiliation and bear burdens are often the most terrifying when they finally explode.

"Bastard!" The tall, thin young man's face was swollen like a monkey's rump. He sat on the floor, scrambling backward in panic.

"Just you wait! You country bumpkin! You think a bit of money makes you so special? Let me tell you, this isn't over!" He struggled to his feet and darted out in disgrace.

His second uncle hurried over, concerned. "Kangkang, what are you doing?"

The chubby youth, Zhang Kangkang, almost sobbed as he replied, "Second Uncle, you don't know—he's been bullying me terribly while I worked here!"

His second uncle embraced him, comfortingly patting his back. "It's all right, it's all right. You got your revenge, now let's go buy a house."

Zhang Kangkang nodded. But just then, a man rushed over. "You're in trouble! He may not be much, but his wife is the company's deputy general manager!"

"What?!" Even Shi Bai was caught off guard. He couldn't help but ask, "If his wife is so powerful, why is he pitifully selling houses here?"

The man scoffed, "She has money, sure, but she won't give him any! He still has to work desperately, just to have a bit of status at home."

"So that's how it is!"

"Don't worry," his second uncle interjected, "With me here—even if she's the chairman, what can she do? She can't eat you alive!"

Someone nearby quickly cautioned, "Don't underestimate this deputy general manager. Her name is Li Yue'e. She's only a deputy, but her father's connections are immense! Word is, many of the big shots in Ancient City are his friends!"

Hearing that, even his second uncle lost confidence. "Kangkang, maybe we should leave."

Zhang Kangkang reverted to his timid self, feeling deeply aggrieved. Why did fate only let him act tough for a moment, never to the end? But someone like Li Yue'e was indeed beyond his ability to provoke. He nodded, "Alright."

But it was already too late. As they stepped forward, the sharp clack of high heels sounded at the hall's entrance. A fierce woman in a tailored suit strode in, followed by a group of security guards.

"Who hit my husband?!"

The crowd shivered in fear—the voice was shrill and piercing.

Zhang Kangkang trembled and clutched his second uncle's arm. "Second Uncle, it's all my fault. Now we're in trouble."

His second uncle frowned. "What are you afraid of? What's done is done. Seeing how angry you were, he must've bullied you badly. So you slapped him—so what? Now his wife is here. At worst, we pay some compensation. I doubt he'll refuse money."

Shi Bai was thoroughly disappointed in Zhang Kangkang, but he admired his second uncle greatly. Indeed, without some boldness, one could hardly run a mine.

Li Yue'e stormed into the hall, instantly spotting Zhang Kangkang and his second uncle. Without bothering to distinguish right from wrong, she commanded, "Beat them!"

A swarm of security guards rushed at Zhang Kangkang and his second uncle, wielding rubber batons.

Zhang Kangkang quickly shielded his head, but his second uncle raised his hand and shouted, "Wait! Madam, let's talk this over. My nephew may have hit your husband, but your husband bullied him miserably first. Really, it's a matter of mutual wrongs! But we did go too far hitting him. How about this: I'll pay fifty thousand for medical expenses. What do you say?"

Li Yue'e glared at his second uncle, lifting her pointed chin and suddenly laughing loudly. "Are you here to make jokes? Who are you to bargain with me?" Her expression turned icy. "They dared to hit my husband's face—ruin theirs! Go!"

The security guards immediately swung their batons and sticks, aiming for their faces.

The crowd scattered in terror. Li Yue'e was ruthlessly savage.

"Stop!" At that moment, Shi Bai shouted fiercely. The security guards froze, stunned and motionless.

Zhang Kangkang and his second uncle dared to open their eyes at last.

Shi Bai, hands in pockets, walked slowly toward Li Yue'e. "Vicious woman! Aren't you a bit too cruel?"

Li Yue'e was startled, as was everyone else.

"What did he say?"

"Vicious woman?"

"My god! Does he have a death wish, talking to Li Yue'e like that?"

Li Yue'e was so enraged her eyelashes trembled. She barked, "What did you say? Say it again!"

Shi Bai stepped right up to her, still with his roguish air. "I said you are a vicious woman, a shrew, a poisonous snake! How did your parents raise you—to be so ruthless?"

"My god!" The crowd gasped again. "Does this kid want to die? Even his second uncle wouldn't dare provoke her, and he dares?"

Especially the female clerks from earlier looked at Shi Bai as if he were insane.

"Who is this guy, really?"

Zhang Kangkang and his second uncle exchanged bewildered looks, unsure of Shi Bai's true identity.

Li Yue'e herself was baffled now, scrutinizing Shi Bai carefully, but recognizing him not at all.

She had met every notable young man in Ancient City, but never seen Shi Bai before. Besides, those people would never dress like Shi Bai.

She gave a cold smile, gritting her teeth. "You little nobody, do you know who I am? How dare you speak to me like that?"

Shi Bai replied, "I don't know, and I don't need to."

Li Yue'e arched her brows. "Let me tell you! I am the deputy general manager of Jinsheng Group, the lord of South City, the eldest daughter of the Iron Tyrant, Li Jiankui!"

The hall was shocked. Though most had never heard of Li Jiankui, he sounded formidable. Only his second uncle's eyes widened in sudden realization.

"The Iron Tyrant, Li Jiankui, is your father!"

Li Yue'e smiled in surprise. "I didn't expect a mere shepherd like you to know my father's name."

His second uncle's mouth twisted bitterly. On the surface, this world was ruled by commerce, but beneath it all lay contests of martial strength. His mine might seem his, but behind it were martial arts masters supporting him.

He had heard of Li Jiankui—Ancient City's famous external martial artist, who thirty years ago single-handedly defeated over twenty kidnappers and thereafter became a legend.

Though he had retired and focused on business, their power was far beyond his second uncle's reach. Martial artists could kill without blinking—offending them was tantamount to courting death.

"I'm terribly sorry," his second uncle quickly bowed to Li Yue'e. "I failed to recognize greatness and offended the young lady and your husband. It was our fault."

He then slapped himself hard, the sound thunderous.

"I was wrong! I deserve death! Please forgive me, young lady! Please pardon me!"

The hall gasped, never expecting him to do this, but clearly feeling the weight of Li Jiankui's name.

Zhang Kangkang tried to stop his second uncle, but was shoved aside. "Young lady! Please forgive us!" He kept slapping himself, "Please spare me and Kangkang, please spare this young man."

Li Yue'e laughed, found a chair, sat down, and crossed her legs. "Good slapping, excellent, but you think one man can atone for three? Aren't you overestimating yourself?"

His second uncle's eyes were bitter. "Then, young lady, what else do you demand?"

Li Yue'e gritted her teeth. "I want all three of you to slap each other until I'm satisfied! You don't stop unless I say so!"

The hall fell silent, all feeling angry for them. They had already apologized—what more did she want? This was too much!

But no one dared to stand up.

Zhang Kangkang glanced at Shi Bai, his meaning clear: "Brother, I'm sorry. Go ahead and slap me."

Most couldn't bear to watch anymore, including the security guards. In the face of absolute power, they were mere ants.

Li Yue'e and her husband looked at Shi Bai, sneering, "Hurry up, what are you waiting for? Waiting to die?"

But just then, Shi Bai burst out laughing wildly.

"Li Jiankui? Who the hell is that? Is he more impressive than Ye Rulong?"
