Chapter 11: Husband, You’re Truly Gifted
“Honey, the baby needs a diaper change! Can you bring me one?”
“Okay, coming.”
Yu Zhile walked out of the room, suddenly realizing he’d never taken care of a child before! Where were the diapers? How did one even change a diaper?
Oh no, this seemed like trouble!
Bracing himself, Yu Zhile walked over to see Qin Haiyu in the bathroom, removing their daughter’s diaper.
So she’d pooped, and that’s why she woke up crying!
At first glance, Yu Zhile found the soiled diaper a bit disgusting. But seeing how Qin Haiyu handled it calmly, cleaning their daughter without a second thought, he didn’t feel so grossed out anymore.
Because these were the responsibilities and duties every parent must face!
He’d only just arrived in this world and didn’t yet feel any real bond with his daughter, which was why he found it unpleasant and off-putting.
But once he formed that bond, he’d be just like Qin Haiyu was now.
It’s true—every child is raised by their parents with countless messy, thankless tasks.
Yu Zhile rummaged through the closet in the bedroom for a while before finally finding the diapers, then made his way to the bathroom.
After Qin Haiyu washed their daughter’s bottom, Yu Zhile eagerly lifted the still-crying baby from the bath and held her so that Qin Haiyu could dry her bottom and feet. That way, since he was holding the baby, Qin Haiyu naturally took the new diaper and put it on their daughter.
How clever I am!
Yu Zhile watched carefully, learning how Qin Haiyu changed the diaper step by step, and thought to himself, “This is actually pretty simple!”
Now he’d learned how to change a diaper!
Next up, the top priority would be learning how to prepare formula!
After all, their daughter couldn’t nurse from her mother every day.
“Don’t cry, sweetheart. How about Daddy takes you for a drive?”
Qin Haiyu gave Yu Zhile a meaningful look, then began cleaning the small bathtub and disposing of the soiled diaper.
Yu Zhile carried his daughter out of the bathroom.
A drive?
He spotted, in a corner of the living room, a pink, race car-shaped baby stroller!
That must be what she meant!
He set the baby into the stroller, gripped the handle at the back, and began pushing the tiny “race car” slowly around the living room.
Sure enough, after just a moment, the little one stopped crying, occasionally breaking into sweet peals of laughter.
So this was the daily life of a stay-at-home dad!
It actually seemed pretty nice!
Yu Zhile found himself starting to enjoy it!
He glanced at the ornate clock on the wall; it was almost five in the evening. He wondered whether they usually ate out for dinner, ordered takeout, or cooked at home.
If they cooked, shouldn’t someone have already gone out to buy groceries?
Well… it was best not to worry about it. Since he was new here, the less he said and did, the less likely he was to make a mistake!
So Yu Zhile stayed with the baby, pretending not to notice the time.
After finishing up with the diaper change and cleaning, Qin Haiyu came out carrying a bag of trash and said, “Honey, when you take out the garbage, bring back some groceries, too. I’ll make you a nice soup tonight!”
At the mention of soup, Yu Zhile suddenly remembered he had big plans for tonight! Earlier, when he’d teased Qin Haiyu, she’d hinted as much—saying she’d make nourishing soup for him tonight, which meant they’d be… well, doing that tonight.
Yu Zhile stopped pushing the stroller, just as he was about to take the trash bag. Suddenly, the little one burst into tears again.
Qin Haiyu knelt down, gently ruffling her daughter’s hair, and teased, “Don’t want Daddy to leave, do you? Silly girl, you never cry like this when Mommy goes out!”
She huffed, “Honey, you go ahead and keep your little sweetheart company! I’ll take out the trash and grab the groceries myself.”
Take out the trash? Get groceries?
Yu Zhile realized he needed to learn how to do both, or next time he wouldn’t even know where to throw out the garbage, whether it needed to be sorted, or how and where to pick up groceries.
So, thinking quickly, he pushed the stroller along behind Qin Haiyu. “Let’s go! Baby will follow Mommy outside. When she grows up, she’ll help Mommy take out the trash and buy groceries!”
How smart I am!
Yu Zhile had to admire himself—he was the model time-traveler, textbook perfect for someone who knew nothing about his new life!
Qin Haiyu said, “She’s only six months old. She won’t be helping with chores until she’s at least three or four!”
“Did you hear that, sweetheart?”
Yu Zhile pushed the stroller out the door, saying, “So you have to be good and grow up fast, so you can help Mommy and Daddy and make life a little easier for us!”
“No!”
Qin Haiyu suddenly said, “I don’t want her to grow up so fast!”
Yu Zhile was curious. “Why not?”
Qin Haiyu replied jealously, “Because once she grows up, she won’t be cute anymore! She’ll turn into a little rascal, competing with me for your attention!”
…
Are you actually jealous of your own daughter?
Yu Zhile found it hilarious, and suddenly remembered a catchy song. He said, “When our daughter grows up, I’ll sing her a song!”
“What song?”
Qin Haiyu closed the door and carefully helped her husband guide the stroller down the little step outside.
It was only then that Yu Zhile realized what a luxurious villa they lived in!
To the left of the entrance was a small garden and vegetable patch, to the right a carport with two obviously expensive cars parked beneath it.
At the main gate, there was an electronic security door. Qin Haiyu pressed a button on her key, and the tall gate slid open automatically, retracting into the walls on either side.
Though this was a parallel world, apart from the field of entertainment, everything else—history, people, events—was unchanged. It showed that, five years into the future, many convenient technologies had become part of daily life.
For example, the smart security camera at the entrance, which turned and focused on them the moment it detected someone, as if ready to give them a close-up.
Yu Zhile looked around, cleared his throat, and began to sing:
“I’m your daddy, I’m so great
Raised you up, and yet
You don’t listen, always off to play
Go on, go on, away you crawl
I don’t want this naughty child at all
I just want your mommy
Just your mommy, hey!”
Listening to her husband’s amusing rap, Qin Haiyu couldn’t help but burst out laughing. “Oh, honey, you’re so talented!”
She knelt down, gently ruffled her daughter’s hair, and said smugly, “Did you hear that, silly girl? When you grow up, if you don’t listen to Mommy and Daddy, Daddy’s going to sing this song to you!”
