Chapter 52: Brimming with the Vitality of Youth
Qin Haiyu hummed along as she looked at the sheet music and lyrics, praising, “Honey, this song actually sounds pretty good!”
“Well, of course!” Yu Zhile nodded with satisfaction. After all, this was a song that had once taken the entire country by storm in his memory; if it weren’t good, it could never have become that popular.
Of course, compared to the previous songs—“A Little Happiness,” “Cherry Blossom Grass,” and “Afterwards”—this one still lacked a certain special something. But that didn’t stop it from being a hit!
Yu Zhile feigned a casual question, “Well? Do you feel there’s anything off? Maybe the lyrics or the arrangement? Should I make some changes?”
Qin Haiyu replied, “The lyrics feel just right! Especially this part: ‘Dear Mom and Dad, don’t call me your little fool. Even though I’m obedient, it doesn’t mean I don’t have thoughts of my own.’ Those lines are really well written!”
Yu Zhile nodded, “If you think it’s good, then practice it well. Once the track is recorded, I’ll move on to the next step and discuss the endorsement with them.”
“Honey, will you teach me to sing it?” Qin Haiyu nestled close, speaking coquettishly.
Yu Zhile was at a loss. “Aren’t you a bit old to be asking me to teach you how to sing?”
“Well, in that case, maybe I shouldn’t sing this song at all!” Qin Haiyu retorted, “If even you say that, then when I actually perform this song, won’t people say, ‘She’s all grown up, she’s married and a mother, yet she’s still singing girly pop songs!’”
“Uh…”
He’d been outmaneuvered!
“All right, all right, I’ll teach you to sing it!” Yu Zhile gently pinched his wife’s cheek, chuckling helplessly. “You’re always acting cute like a teenage girl—aren’t you embarrassed?”
Qin Haiyu giggled. “But I am a little girl at heart!”
Downstairs, Xu Ling, who was “tormenting” the baby, called out in exasperation, “Please, you two! We have guests! Can you not be so disgustingly lovey-dovey?”
“Pfft!” Yu Zhile glanced at his wife, embarrassed. “Why is Xu Ling still here?”
Qin Haiyu didn’t care, continuing to act spoiled. “She’s playing with the baby! Ignore her. Come on, teach me the song, quick!”
All right then…
Yu Zhile began teaching his wife the song, line by line, just like a music teacher coaching a primary school student, guiding her through “Sweet and Sour, That’s Me.”
Downstairs, Xu Ling, who was helping to watch the baby, listened in astonishment. She hadn’t expected Yu Zhile to actually compose a song specifically for this advertisement deal.
Could he really have written this song in just three hours?
I like the taste of sour and sweet
That’s the real me
Every day is full of freshness for me
My picky taste buds
Have their own unique flavor…
These lyrics genuinely sounded as though they’d been written especially for a yogurt endorsement!
If Tianyou Yogurt knew about this song, they’d probably regret their decision, right? No, not probably—they definitely would! They only reached out to Qin Haiyu for the endorsement because her popularity soared after winning the ninth season of “I’m a Singer.” But some other celebrity must have appeared out of nowhere, causing them to change their minds and suddenly drop Qin Haiyu.
Now, all three of the songs Qin Haiyu performed on “I’m a Singer” had become nationwide hits. If a new song were released now as a theme for some brand of yogurt, and if it also became a national sensation, it would essentially serve as a blockbuster commercial for that yogurt brand!
Suddenly, she felt a surge of admiration. No wonder Yu Zhile was so confident! With a catchy, earworm song written especially for yogurt, as long as the company saw the advertising value, there’d be no reason for them to refuse this endorsement.
She began to wonder—would the Mengniu Group choose Qin Haiyu to endorse their “Sweet and Sour Milk” because of this song? And if that really happened, and if product sales skyrocketed like the song, would Tianyou Yogurt be so furious they’d spit blood?
Just imagining it made her look forward to it! Yu Zhile really was brilliant! He might actually help her get her revenge.
Serves them right for trying to play me. Serves them right for going back on their word! Now they’ve picked up a sesame seed and lost a watermelon!
Xu Ling could barely wait to see this day arrive.
…
The next day at noon.
Once everything was ready, Yu Zhile and his wife took advantage of the baby’s nap to record the song in the study.
Qin Haiyu only needed to tweak her voice a little, and she could sound as sweet and pure as a teenage girl. Since many broadcast hosts also worked as voice actors, Yu Zhile wasn’t surprised by his wife’s ability to switch between girlish and mature tones.
After all, he possessed the same skill! He could imitate Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau, Jay Chou, Jeff Chang, and even Li Yugang with remarkable accuracy.
For Yu Zhile, as long as the song was good, it didn’t matter whether the singer’s image matched the song’s mood.
After finishing the recording, Yu Zhile did a quick audio edit. Listening to the final version, he suddenly felt that his wife’s rendition sounded even more youthful, sweet, and captivating than the original by Zhang Hanyun.
He took off his headphones and said, “Excellent! It’s brimming with teenage girl energy!”
Qin Haiyu teased, “When you listen to the song, it’s full of youthful vibes; but look at the singer, and it’s all hot-mom energy!”
Yu Zhile laughed. “Isn’t that contrast interesting? People will be amazed—your voice and image are so girlish! That striking contrast will make you unforgettable.”
Qin Haiyu huffed, “Well, if anyone criticizes me, it’ll be your fault!”
Yu Zhile patted her head. “Fine—if anyone dares to bash my wife, I’ll fire back tenfold! I’ll roast them until they question their life choices, until they kneel and sing ‘Conquer’!”
Qin Haiyu, suddenly curious, asked, “‘Conquer’? Which ‘Conquer’ are you talking about?”
Yu Zhile explained, “Oh, it’s just a figure of speech. I don’t know which ‘Conquer’—just whoever criticizes you, I’ll roast them until they’re on their knees, utterly conquered by me!”
“Silly!” Qin Haiyu softened. “You said it yourself—no one can ever please everyone. So for those who don’t like us, just ignore their comments. There’s no need to pay them any mind.”
Yu Zhile grinned. “Hey, I never intended to. I was just saying that to humor you!”
“You’re terrible!” Qin Haiyu slapped his thigh flirtatiously, casting him a charming glance before standing up and humming, “I’m going to check on the baby. I’m ignoring you!”
Yu Zhile chuckled, then contacted Manager Chen, ready to send him the song for a listen.
Barring any surprises, he was confident that landing the endorsement for Mengniu Sweet and Sour Milk would be a breeze!
