Chapter 138: The Date
A date naturally wouldn't be spent entirely at home, so after a brief rest, An He and Reina Serizawa planned to head out once more.
To ensure they had a flawless date today, An He had gone online beforehand to search for no less than a dozen suitable locations nearby.
Tokyo Tower, Yokohama Port, Shinagawa Aquarium, Todoroki Valley, Ginza, and so on; all of these were exceptionally romantic spots for couples.
However, when An He asked Reina Serizawa for her preference, she gave him an unexpected answer.
"I want to stay somewhere nearby."
As the young girl spoke, she slipped her arm through An He's, swaying gently from side to side as she tilted her head up. Blinking her large, dark-brown eyes, she pouted playfully, "Can we? Just around here."
"Why?" An He asked curiously.
Hearing this, Reina Serizawa turned around and began counting on her fingers.
"Hey, hey, look. If we go to those places you mentioned, it'll take us more than half an hour just to get there. With that much time, we could totally ride the roller coaster and the Ferris wheel at the amusement park nearby, and still have time to grab a fragrant cup of milk tea at a café."
Seeing Reina Serizawa rambling on and on, An He couldn't help but chuckle. He placed his large hand on top of the girl's head, gently rumpled her hair, and comforted her:
"Don't worry, it's not like we're only going on a date this one time. All those places you mentioned can definitely wait for the future."
"But I want to do all of it today!"
Reina Serizawa tilted her head back, looking up at An He with a pitiful expression, her tone carrying a hint of grievance:
"Big Sister Mashiru is so gentle, Little Sister Mashiro is so adorable, Miss Nadeshiko is so understanding, Teacher Ito is as gorgeous as a major celebrity, and even little Yui is so capable. Only I am like an idiot, who can't do this and doesn't know that. I can't guarantee whether, years from now, I will still have the charm to make you carve out time to take me on dates like this."
The girl's voice grew softer and softer, until finally, she lowered her head entirely, her small hands gripping the hem of An He's shirt tightly, as if she were terrified that he would find her annoying because of what she had just said and push her away.
After a long silence.
Noticing that An He still hadn't said a word, Reina Serizawa instinctively looked up, only to find him looking down at her with a teasing smile.
"Wh—What is it!"
The girl grew a little angry. That speech she had just delivered was practically a passionate confession of love, yet this hateful guy in front of her was making that kind of expression.
The more she thought about it, the madder she got. Reina Serizawa simply gave An He's calf a sharp kick, then turned around, crossed her arms, and began to sulk.
Yet only a moment later, she felt the person behind her leaning in close.
"I'm angry now, you know," Reina Serizawa issued a warning, but she didn't put up any resistance, allowing An He to wrap his arms around her waist from behind and rest his chin on her fragrant shoulder.
Cheek to cheek, the scent of a man washed over her, and the girl's heartbeat involuntarily skipped a few extra beats.
Just as she intended to say something more, An He spoke up first.
"Rena-chan seems to lack confidence, doesn't she?"
As he spoke, An He used his finger to stroke Reina Serizawa's soft, tender cheek, continuing:
"Doesn't Rena-chan usually look in the mirror?"
"Of course I do," Reina Serizawa said, feeling a bit guilty.
In truth, before she met An He, she really didn't have the habit of looking in the mirror, and she rarely even paid attention to her personal hygiene. That was precisely why, when An He first saw the photo on her student ID card, she had looked so disheveled.
Naturally, it was impossible for Reina Serizawa to speak of such image-damaging things in front of the person she liked. Right now, she was simply wondering why An He would suddenly ask such a question.
Yet the very next moment, he provided the answer.
The sudden sensation of weightlessness made the girl let out an
