Chapter Fifty-One: The Reason Saori Amamiya Dislikes Her Older Sister...
After reading all the information on the light screen, Anhe couldn’t help but fall into deep thought.
There were a total of five endings, and in four of them, the words "request" and "ordeal" appeared. Clearly, Saori Amamiya was about to face serious trouble. As for what kind of trouble could possibly cause the proud second daughter of the Amamiya family to fall from grace, Anhe could only think of two possibilities for now.
First, a grave incident would befall the Amamiya family, threatening its very existence. Second, Saori Amamiya would be kidnapped. Anhe was more inclined to believe the former, because the latter scenario—being kidnapped—was riddled with contradictions and uncertainties.
...
"What are you looking at?"
A sudden female voice pulled Anhe from his thoughts. Looking up, he saw the girl across from him frowning in his direction.
Now that he had confirmed her identity, Anhe no longer felt the urgency he’d had before. He leaned back comfortably on the sofa, looked at the girl before him and chuckled, "I was looking at you. Somehow, you seem very familiar."
At his words, Saori Amamiya’s frown relaxed just a little. Such a clichéd way of striking up a conversation, she thought. Still, her delicate face resumed its sweet smile as she picked up the steaming milk tea from the table, blew on it, and answered confidently, "I’m sorry, but I can assure you we’ve never met before, Anhe."
With that, she brought the cup to her lips and took a gentle sip. The silky texture and rich aroma filled her mouth, making Saori Amamiya close her eyes in contentment.
Seeing her wear the very same expression that Sayu Amamiya had when drinking milk, Anhe’s smile deepened, and he was suddenly tempted to tease her. He called out, "Saori Amamiya."
The moment his words fell, there was a spluttering sound as Saori Amamiya sprayed the milk tea in her mouth, all of it landing squarely on Anhe’s face.
"Cough, cough, cough..."
She barely had time to wipe the milk tea from the corner of her mouth, staring wide-eyed at Anhe as if she’d seen a ghost. "How do you know my name?"
Watching the girl, bereft of her previous composure, Anhe smirked inwardly. Feeling the liquid trickle down his face, he instinctively stuck out his tongue and licked it.
Hmm, thick with the flavor of milk—especially sweet.
"You—you—you!"
Seeing what Anhe had done, Saori Amamiya slammed the table and shot to her feet, her face flushed red with anger and embarrassment as she pointed at him. "How could you do that!"
"Do what?" Anhe feigned ignorance, even wiping the milk tea from his face and sniffing at it. "Mmm, smells wonderful—this café must have quite a talented barista."
"You!"
Saori Amamiya trembled with rage, but quickly forced herself to calm down. She drew a few deep breaths, sat back down, and asked coolly, "How did you know about me?"
Anhe pulled some napkins from the table, wiping his face as he replied offhandedly, "Your sister told me."
At the mention of her sister, Saori Amamiya’s face remained expressionless, but her breathing quickened noticeably.
"My sister... Sayu Amamiya talked about me with you?"
"She did." Anhe nodded lightly, tossing the used napkins into the bin beneath the table. Folding his arms, he leaned back into the sofa and looked at the girl, who seemed a little nervous, with a gentle smile.
"Your sister said she has a particularly adorable younger sister, always dressed like a princess. Since you match her description, I thought I’d ask. I didn’t expect such a big reaction from you."
Saori Amamiya didn’t linger on the second half of his sentence, her large eyes shining hopefully as she asked, "Did she say anything else about me?"
"That’s all," Anhe replied, spreading his hands. Seeing her clear disbelief, he added, "She just said you’re like a little princess, that the two of you are from different worlds. Oh, and she mentioned that you seem to dislike her."
"I do not!" Saori Amamiya denied sharply, but as soon as the words left her mouth, she hurriedly clapped a hand over her lips. Glancing anxiously around and seeing that their bodyguards weren’t paying attention, she finally let out a breath and sat back down.
Lowering her head to the table, she was silent for a long moment before speaking in a soft, forlorn voice.
"My sister... because of what happened with Auntie, Father has hated her since we were little. I didn’t understand at first, and I used to go looking for her to play. I really loved spending time with her. But one time, while we were playing, Father found us. He was furious. He not only dragged me away, but he beat my sister so badly..."
Her voice broke, tears falling onto the table.
Seeing this, Anhe handed her some tissues. She took them, whispered a soft "thank you," and went on.
"That time, my sister was beaten unconscious. I thought she’d died—I was so scared. Fortunately, she woke up three days later. But from then on, I never dared go near her again. I even started to avoid her on purpose, because I was afraid that if Father saw us together again, he really would beat her to death..."
After hearing Saori Amamiya’s story, Anhe’s brows furrowed. Sayu Amamiya had never told him any of this, no doubt for fear of worrying him.
He was about to ask for more details when the narrator’s voice suddenly sounded in his mind.
"How dare mere ants lay hands on my wife! Thinking of what Toshio Amamiya did in the past, a murderous intent wells up in your heart. It's a pity the man won't live to face your wrath, but as the saying goes, the sins of the father fall upon the child. If you can't punish the father, then the daughter..."
Anhe stopped listening to the rest. His attention was wholly captured by the first part.
He knew Toshio Amamiya—Sayu Amamiya’s father. But what did it mean that "the man won't live to face your wrath"? Was Toshio Amamiya about to die?
When it came to the information provided by this damn narrator, Anhe had always trusted it implicitly. Yet, the idea that Toshio Amamiya might die was hard to accept. After all, as the president of such a large company, how could he just...
Anhe suddenly froze.
He thought of the first of his two earlier theories as to the cause of Saori Amamiya’s future downfall: a disaster threatening the very survival of the Amamiya family.
As the saying goes, a country cannot last a day without a king, a family not a day without its head. If Toshio Amamiya really died, then perhaps chaos would break out in the Amamiya family after all.
In just an instant, Anhe imagined a scene of the company elders battling each other for power and profit...
Looking back at Saori Amamiya, Anhe’s expression grew odd.
Since she was still here, Toshio Amamiya was clearly not dead—yet. But most likely, his end was not far off.
Whether he would die of illness or for some other reason, Anhe could only speculate in his heart. He had no intention of telling Saori Amamiya any of this.
