Chapter 003: Experts in Dealing with Scammers—Sister-in-law, Let's Go
“Get in the car, we’re running late.” Xu Ling beckoned, glancing at Song Kai’s school uniform. Her delicate brows knit together, but she said nothing.
Xu Ling had never been one to worship wealth or idolize handsome men; in fact, her indifference made her value a man’s depth all the more. Unfortunately, Song Kai had none. From what she’d learned over these days, Song Kai was nothing but a weak, incompetent, fallen rich kid.
With a frown, Xu Ling brought Song Kai into a red Audi. The car roared off, leaving the taxi driver bewildered in the wind.
“High schoolers these days are something else!” The taxi driver shivered, lighting a cigarette. “Just checked out of a hotel with one beauty, now heading off to meet another’s parents… ah, this world is so unfair!”
Song Kai sat in the car, sneering inwardly. This was reality. When the Song family was prosperous, the Xu family, desperate to escape crisis, fawned over him, sending their daughter to his door. Now, with bankruptcy and poverty, they couldn’t wait to kick their son-in-law out.
Song Kai narrowed his eyes. His soul had merged and been reborn; he wasn’t determined to be their live-in son-in-law. But if they pushed too far, he wouldn’t show mercy.
Xu Ling drove, full of dissatisfaction and contempt for Song Kai. The man she envisioned for her future could never be like this.
Lost in thought, she passed through a traffic light when suddenly—bang!—an electric scooter tumbled in front of the car. Its rider lay motionless on the ground.
Xu Ling slammed the brakes, stunned. Her beautiful face turned red with fright. She’d just returned from abroad and had never experienced anything like this.
The light was green—how could she have hit anyone?
“I… did I hit someone?” Xu Ling was dazed.
Song Kai looked ahead. “Don’t panic, I’ll go check. Stay in the car and don’t get out.”
“Okay,” Xu Ling instinctively nodded.
Song Kai got out. The scooter lay on the ground, its rear crushed; the rider sprawled in a pool of blood. Yet, everything screamed staged accident—professional, even. The car hadn’t been speeding, the impact was minor, yet the rear wheel was caved in.
“You idiot! Can’t you see where you’re going?” A middle-aged man in a cap glared at Song Kai, shouting loudly. Clearly, he was skilled at this act. After cursing, he knelt beside his companion, wailing, “Brother! Are you alright? Don’t scare me!”
Song Kai sighed, approaching. “Alright, man. What’s your price?”
“Two thousand,” the cap-wearing man stood, whispering, “I’m doing you a favor. Since you’re a student, I won’t make it hard for you. Give me two thousand and you can leave. If you end up in the hospital, you’ll be lucky to get away with twenty thousand. Look—my brother’s leg is bleeding, almost broken.”
Song Kai chuckled. “I don’t have two thousand. How about twenty?”
“Kid, are you messing with me?” The man glared, then suddenly raised his voice, crying loudly, “Hit and run! Refusing compensation! Please, good people, witness this!”
Crowds in China love a spectacle. Soon, a ring of onlookers gathered.
At that moment, the car door creaked open and Xu Ling stepped out. The cap-wearing man froze, clearly surprised to see such a beautiful woman emerge. Seeing her, his resentment toward Song Kai deepened. This kid was really lucky with women—he’d make him suffer today.
Xu Ling approached, holding a brand-new pink Huawei phone. “Enough, Song Kai, don’t argue. I’ll call the traffic police.”
The man strode over and snatched her phone. “You want to call for help? You rich people never care about us poor folk!”
“Give it back. I’m calling an ambulance,” Xu Ling replied coldly.
“Lies! I heard you calling for backup. You must know someone in the police, trying to cover it up!” He stuffed her phone into his pocket, a custom-made device worth a lot. Losing it would be trouble.
Xu Ling grew anxious.
Song Kai strode over, swiftly retrieving the phone, then kicked the cap-wearing man in the stomach, sending him tumbling.
Though this body was frail, as a Daoist priest in the Yuan dynasty, Song Kai had practiced breathing, martial arts, and medicine—basic skills. The cap-wearing man was no match.
“You dare attack us!”
“My god, these arrogant rich kids! Hit someone, call their connections, and now assault people!”
“Outrageous!”
A few voices in the crowd shouted indignantly. Soon, the clueless onlookers all joined in.
Xu Ling grew tense, turning to Song Kai. “Let’s call the police.”
Song Kai shook his head. “No need. If we wait for the police, we’ll be late for the banquet. Just sit in the car.” He tossed her the phone.
Xu Ling clutched it, still nervous—her first time in such a situation, naturally frightened.
Song Kai walked over to the man on the ground. “Hey, your leg’s broken?”
The man glanced at Song Kai, silent.
Song Kai pressed his knee. “Hurts?”
“Ah! It hurts! It’s killing me! Can’t you see the blood? Don’t you have a conscience?” the man shouted.
Song Kai examined the blood—it was clearly chicken or dog blood bought at the market. He smiled, then pulled off the man’s shoe.
“What are you doing?” The man glared.
Ignoring him, Song Kai pressed hard on the Yongquan acupoint on the sole, a spot that makes children giggle when tickled—but Song Kai wasn’t merely tickling; he pressed down ruthlessly.
The man’s leg went numb, tingling and aching.
“Stop! What are you doing?” The man cried out in panic.
Song Kai’s face wore an innocent smile. “I’m healing you.”
“No need—stop—ah, I can’t stand it!” Suddenly, the man leapt up, stomping his foot repeatedly, unable to withstand the sensation.
Song Kai exclaimed, “Wow, your leg’s healed! Your knee isn’t hurting, no more bleeding! I must be a miracle doctor, right?”
“You bastard!” The man, seeing his scheme exposed, pointed at Song Kai. “Give me money, or you won’t leave today!”
The crowd finally realized.
“So it was a scam!”
“How can people start so young and not learn anything decent?”
“Just trying to get something for nothing, sigh!”
Seeing the crowd turn on them, the two scam artists dropped the act. One pulled out a knife and approached Xu Ling, “Hand over the phone!”
Xu Ling’s face went pale, retreating quickly.
Song Kai coldly sneered, launched a kick, and struck one man’s jaw, sending him sprawling against the rail. He then charged and kicked the knife-wielder in the stomach. With a whoosh, the man flew through the air and landed headfirst in the boxwood bushes.
Seeing Song Kai’s prowess, the three other scammers hiding in the crowd didn’t dare step forward and kept silent.
Song Kai tossed his head coolly at Xu Ling. “Wife, let’s get in the car. We’re on a tight schedule…”
