Chapter 091: An Elder Sister Is Like a Mother, and Trouble Keeps Coming
When Song Kai heard the voice, he frowned and immediately strode over.
At the table ahead, two dyed-blond toughs were seated on either side of Liu Ying. They had not gone too far, but they were clearly holding out drinks and trying to get her to drink with them.
In truth, this bar was fairly orderly. You could flirt with women, you could pick up the drunk, but force was not allowed.
Still, Liu Ying was far too beautiful, and the two blond bouncers could not resist.
Song Kai walked up and tapped the table.
“Song Kai!” Liu Ying stood up, looking wronged.
Song Kai nodded, then looked at the man on the left. “Get lost.”
The man stared at Song Kai, narrowed his eyes, and stood. “Well now, brother, you’ve got quite the temper. What is it, this woman your girl?”
“None of your business. Get lost.” Song Kai’s tone was just as unfriendly. He could not be bothered to deal with trash like this.
“Damn, this is really going too far.” The man ran a hand through his dirty-yellow hair, licked his lips, then lifted the glass in his hand and threw the drink toward Song Kai’s face.
Song Kai shifted aside, then seized the man by the hair. With a hard yank, he dragged him out, and with a trip of his foot he sent the man crashing to the floor.
The other blond idiot froze for a moment.
Song Kai curled a finger at him. “Be good and get out here.”
Seeing that Song Kai was no easy target, the blond swallowed, then slowly stood and walked out.
Song Kai said to Liu Ying, “Are you all right?”
Liu Ying was a little frightened. She had never been through anything like this before. She nodded, then clutched Song Kai’s arm tightly with both hands. “Song Kai, let’s go home.”
“Mm, let’s go.” Song Kai took her hand and started for the door.
“Fuck! Think you can just walk away?” Several punks came over with beer bottles and iron bars. Clearly, these were the regulars who hung around the place. “You dare hit my brother? Damn it, unless you leave your girl here to drink with us today, I’ll show you why flowers are so red!”
Song Kai looked at the six men in front of him. They were all young, in jeans, with dyed scraps of hair in all kinds of colors, each of them looking like some grotesque parody of a hair salon delinquent.
Song Kai gave a cold laugh. “What, you still want to make trouble?”
“Trouble your damn mother, I’ll ruin your face!” The punk who had just been hit was the most agitated of all. He raised the iron bar and swung it down at Song Kai.
Song Kai stepped forward and kicked the punk in the neck. With a bang, he sent him flying more than three meters, crashing onto the small stage where the singers performed.
“Kill him!” the leader shouted.
Song Kai did not hold back either. He grabbed a beer bottle and smashed it onto the nearest man’s head. With a sharp crack, beer sprayed everywhere, and the man dropped at once, blood streaming down his face.
Song Kai followed with a side kick, toppling another man, then swung a stool and smashed it into a third.
It all happened too fast. In the blink of an eye, four of the six punks were already on the floor.
The remaining two backed away, too afraid to come closer.
Song Kai sneered. “A bunch of scum, only able to act tough in a place like this. When the invaders came, you’d all have been traitors!”
With that, he took Liu Ying’s hand and walked out.
Liu Ying’s little hand trembled with tension.
“What’s going on? Don’t you know this place is under my watch?”
A voice rang out.
The crowd parted, and three middle-aged men walked over.
The blond leader saw them and immediately dropped to his knees before the man in front. “Brother Kai! Brother Kai, you have to stand up for me! This prick came out of nowhere and dared to cause trouble here. He beat up several of my brothers, and he even called us trash and traitors!”
This man was Yang Kai.
Yang Kai frowned, looking at Song Kai and Liu Ying. “Hey, you two, you’re fuc—” He stopped short, then his expression changed. “I’ll be damned, Song Kai!”
Song Kai turned around and looked at him. It was the prison bully he had run into in detention, Yang Kai.
“It’s you.” Song Kai nodded. “You got out pretty fast.”
Yang Kai’s face shifted, then he broke into a laugh. “Ah, Song Kai, we suffered through the hard times together. I never expected to run into you here. What, not having enough fun? Did these blind fools upset you? Don’t take them seriously.” As he spoke, Yang Kai kicked the punk on the ground and sent him flying a good distance away.
“Get the hell out of here! From now on, open your eyes and look properly. This is Song Kai, Brother Kai. He’s my brother in suffering from the prison days! Damn it, whoever pisses him off is pissing me off!” Yang Kai shouted, all the while sneaking careful glances at Song Kai, terrified that Song Kai might be dissatisfied.
Song Kai did not want trouble. He waved a hand and said, “It’s nothing, just a small matter. I’m leaving.”
With that, he ignored Yang Kai entirely and took Liu Ying away.
Only after Song Kai had gone some distance did Yang Kai finally breathe out in relief. Sweat had already broken out on his forehead. Back in prison, the sight of Song Kai beating Sun Hanhu to a pulp had been impossible to forget. And this man had once strangled him into unconsciousness with his bare hands. This was a ruthless character indeed.
The bar fell silent.
Yang Kai waved a hand. “All right, carry on. It’s fine now!”
...
Song Kai did not think much of it. He took Liu Ying back home.
At first, Liu Ying had still been a little timid, but once they returned, all that remained in her was excitement.
Song Kai sat on the sofa, thinking about the relationship between Liu Qian and River Dragon, trying to guess why River Dragon had come here.
“Song Kai, here, have an apple.”
Liu Ying, wearing a dress, ran over and sat beside him. She took a fruit knife and began peeling an apple for him.
“I’ll do it.” Song Kai reached for the knife.
Liu Ying would not give it to him.
Their hands touched.
Liu Ying’s hand was delicate, smooth, and slender.
Song Kai found it pleasant, and casually brushed it with his fingers.
Liu Ying seemed as if she had been shocked by electricity. She quickly handed the knife and apple over to him.
Her face was red.
Song Kai did not think much of it. While peeling the apple, he asked, “Liu Ying, where are your parents?”
“They’re dead. When Liu Qiang and I were only one or two years old, our parents were already gone. But we had our elder sister. She was more than ten years older than us, and she was the one who raised us and took care of us,” Liu Ying said.
Song Kai nodded.
He did not ask further about River Dragon, because it was obvious that Liu Qiang and Liu Ying were far too young and knew nothing about that man.
“Song Kai, why don’t you just stay with us long-term? The house is big enough, isn’t it?”
Liu Ying looked at him.
Song Kai split the apple and gave half to Liu Ying. He shook his head. “No, that wouldn’t be convenient. Does anyone else come to your place?”
“No. Aside from Huang Yun coming by once in a while, no one else has ever come in. You’re the second outsider, hehe.” Liu Ying smiled, and it was a very lovely smile.
That night, Liu Qian still had not come home.
Song Kai sat in his own bedroom, somewhat troubled.
At that moment, there was a knock on the door.
Song Kai opened it.
Liu Ying was standing outside in a pink nightdress. “Song Kai, look, I made you some juice. A glass at night helps you sleep and is good for your skin too.”
Song Kai smiled, but he also felt a small pang of guilt, as though he were deceiving Liu Ying.
Just then, the doorbell rang outside.
Liu Ying handed the juice to Song Kai. “I’ll go see who it is.”
She went to the living room and asked into the intercom, “Who are you?”
“We’re Liu Qiang’s friends. Open the door quickly.” A man’s voice came through the speaker, followed by heavy pounding on the front door.
When Song Kai heard that, he frowned and asked Liu Ying, “What’s going on?”
Liu Ying pointed outside. “A few people say they’re my brother’s friends. The four of them look really fierce. I, I’m a little scared. I was just about to call security.”
At that moment, Liu Qiang also came downstairs. He had spent a day and a night playing Legends of the Rift, and his eyes were blackened with fatigue.
Liu Qiang came down muttering, “Who is it? I do know a lot of people, but not many know we live here.”
He looked outside, then froze. “I’ve never even seen these people. What are they doing here so late at night?”
“Then let’s go outside and talk,” Song Kai said, and opened the door.
Seeing Song Kai step out, Liu Qiang found the courage to follow him toward the front gate.
Four people were standing at the entrance. The one in front was a burly fat man with a large potbelly, around forty years old. He was pounding on the iron gate with all his strength. When he saw Liu Qiang come out, he pointed at him and said, “Hey! So you really were here! Good, as long as you didn’t run! Brothers, come on, break the gate and catch this bastard!”
The others pulled out iron hammers hidden behind them and were about to smash the gate open.
Liu Qiang was startled.
Song Kai raised a hand. “Wait. No need to break the gate. We can just speak plainly. The security guard is not far away. If you start causing trouble, I’ll call him now.”
The fat man sneered. “Call the security guard? Call the police for all I care, it won’t matter. A life for a life, a debt repaid in full. That’s only proper and natural! Even if the police come, I, Ding Sanming, will still stand by this! Bastard, open the door already.”
At that moment Liu Ying rushed out. She hurriedly said, “Don’t open it, don’t open it. Let’s call the police!”
“Call the police? The police would still be arresting Liu Qiang! That fraud!” Ding Sanming kicked the gate, making it clang and rattle violently.
Song Kai walked over and said, “Open the door. I’d like to see what sort of business could make you so righteous.”
With that, Song Kai opened the gate.
Ding Sanming’s eyes swept over Liu Ying’s face and the chest of her sleepwear. He swallowed, then gave a sinister smile before looking at Liu Qiang. “Liu Qiang, tell me, was the company called Genesis yours?”
“Genesis Company? That... what about it?” Liu Qiang asked blankly.
Ding Sanming sneered. “What about it? Your company cheated me out of seven million. Now the people are nowhere to be found, and the goods were never delivered. Since you’re the legal representative and a shareholder of Genesis, of course I have to come get my money from you!”
“What? Seven million? What seven million?” Liu Qiang was completely baffled.
“Still trying to quibble? Here’s the contract, and this seal is your personal company seal! The registration also bears your name. Hmph, a debt must be repaid. Do I really need to say more?” Ding Sanming pulled out a contract and handed it to Liu Qiang.
