Chapter 075: Maternal Love, The Crematory Worker of Vengeance
Song Kai turned his head, looking strangely at Qin Liang, this effeminate fellow.
“Are you sure?” Song Kai asked.
Qin Liang immediately replied, “Song Kai, you haven’t seen Luo Dahai’s corpse, so you don’t know. The way he died was bizarre. He was driving through Shiniu Town at night—just up ahead, not far from here—when suddenly he crashed straight into an electric pole. A car accident isn’t unusual, but the key is, both his eyes were gone. The speed wasn’t fast, plus the airbags and everything, it shouldn’t have been fatal. But Luo Dahai really died, his eyeballs were gone, half his face was destroyed, the stench was overwhelming. Our police department investigated for a long time, we knew it was murder, but found not a single clue. It’s almost about to be classified as a cold case.”
Song Kai furrowed his brow. “From what you say, it does seem like that. A murderous ghost would definitely leave something unusual.”
“You’re talking nonsense! My Yuanyuan—how could she kill anyone! She’s never killed before!” Granny Sun below rasped out a cry.
Song Kai chuckled, “You’re still refusing to see the truth? You were deceived. That person tricked you into raising a ghost—he… Damn, I get it now.” Song Kai slapped his thigh.
“What is it?” Qin Liang asked.
Song Kai said, “It’s that gatekeeper, the old man with the scarred face. When I arrived, he lied to me, saying Granny Sun had quit. Now it seems he was the one who taught Granny Sun to raise that little ghost. He’s using Yuanyuan to kill. Come on, let’s go!”
Qin Liang swallowed hard. “I’ll call for backup right now.”
Just as he spoke, Qin Liang’s phone rang.
“Hello, Chief,” Qin Liang answered, his tone instantly changing, becoming gentle and melodious, like a woman.
“Qin Liang, are you causing trouble again? What’s with the false report!” The roar from the other end was loud enough for Song Kai to hear from afar.
Qin Liang quickly replied, “Chief, listen to me, I actually have a plan, I…”
“I don’t have time for your nonsense! Now the city bureau is on my case, asking what’s happening. If the media interviews tomorrow, what should they say! They even asked if I want to go home and farm! If I do go home, I’ll make sure you go farming first, you little bastard!” The man on the other end was furious.
Qin Liang was about to cry, “Chief, I found the killer, really, I…”
“I don’t care if you found the killer! The city bureau is in charge now, and you keep making trouble for me!” The man kept roaring, “And where’s Luo Dahai’s corpse! His body! Now Luo Dahai’s friends came to pay respects, and all they found was a stick! Are you trying to get me killed, is it on purpose! All the times I’ve scolded you, it was for your own good, you… cough, cough… you’re driving me… cough, cough…”
Then the call ended.
Qin Liang stood there, bewildered.
Song Kai wanted to laugh. Poor kid, definitely a police academy graduate—at the station, all he gets is exclusion and bullying.
Song Kai patted Qin Liang on the shoulder. “Let’s go, princess.”
“Who are you calling princess!” Qin Liang pushed Song Kai’s hand away, flicking his hair with a delicate gesture.
“If you’re not, then what are you? If I were you, I’d have cursed your chief right back, believe it or not. Damn, he really dares to walk all over you,” Song Kai said.
Qin Liang waved irritably, “Forget it, let’s just catch the guy. No hope for backup now, just the two of us. I know martial arts, you’re not bad either, we should be able to handle it.”
Song Kai nodded.
The two walked outside.
Granny Sun remained sitting on the ground, looking as if she was about to die.
Suddenly, she sprang up like a madwoman, pushed out her electric scooter, and rode off down the road.
Song Kai rode his motorcycle, with Qin Liang on the back, heading toward the crematorium.
On the way, Song Kai explained everything about Granny Sun and Yuanyuan.
Qin Liang wrapped his arms around Song Kai’s waist and sighed, “Ah, such a tragic life… Wait, the timing doesn’t add up. Granny Sun is lying!”
“Why?” Song Kai asked.
“Think about it—Granny Sun said her daughter was eight, died in a car accident a year ago, so now her daughter would be nine. That means even if Granny Sun had the child at thirty, she’d only be thirty-nine now! Song Kai, hurry back, that old woman is suspicious,” Qin Liang analyzed confidently.
“Nonsense. Granny Sun… she’s probably at most thirty-five. Besides, she used to be a surgeon. Spending all that time dealing with ghosts, her vital energy and blood got drained away, it’s normal she looks so old. And everything happened within the last year,” Song Kai shook his head.
Qin Liang shivered, holding on even tighter.
Song Kai abruptly elbowed him away. “If you cling to me again, I’ll kick you off.”
“I’m just scared,” Qin Liang muttered.
Fortunately, the crematorium wasn’t far; otherwise, Song Kai really couldn’t stand having a man cling to his waist for so long.
Arriving at the crematorium, the gates were open. Two cars were parked outside—a Mercedes G8 and an Audi Q7.
“What the hell? Are rich people crazy, driving fancy cars to the crematorium at night for a stroll?” Qin Liang grumbled.
Song Kai didn’t dwell on it and entered the crematorium.
He took out the peach wood sword and handed Qin Liang a dagger and a talisman. “Watch out for the scar-faced old man, he’ll be tough.”
“Don’t worry, I trust your skills,” Qin Liang said.
“Damn…” Song Kai was speechless.
As they walked, Song Kai suddenly asked, “Was Luo Dahai a wealthy businessman?”
“Yes, he was a real estate tycoon in Yishui City. His reputation wasn’t great, but he was definitely a billionaire,” Qin Liang replied.
Song Kai nodded, “So the ones driving the luxury cars must be here to pay respects to Luo Dahai.”
“Right.”
They searched around and found no one.
Then they entered the reception room, hoping to ask Luo Dahai’s two friends about the situation.
But upon entering, the floor was covered in blood.
On the bench, only two black briefcases remained. A large pool of blood stained the floor, and toward the back door, there were two trails of blood, clearly indicating that someone had dragged the bodies of those two wealthy men toward the rear exit.
“Damn!” Qin Liang grabbed his dagger and rushed toward the back door.
Unexpectedly, the kid had a bit of chivalry in him—though he was terrified of ghosts, he still charged ahead.
Song Kai followed.
Behind was a huge incinerator.
The furnace blazed with fierce flames.
A hunched old man was smoking, calmly fiddling with the furnace.
Beside him lay three corpses—one was Luo Dahai’s, the other two must have belonged to the wealthy men.
“Ma Weifeng! Are you out of your mind!” Song Kai walked over, frowning deeply. The air was thick with ghostly energy!
“What are you doing, why are there so many spirits here?” Song Kai looked around.
“Heh heh heh…” Ma Weifeng puffed on his cigarette, slowly lifting his head. The scar on his face became even more vivid and lifelike in the furnace’s glow, as if those scars might come alive as he spoke.
“Young men, your timing is unfortunate,” Ma Weifeng’s voice was raspy. “Everything was about to end, all matters resolved, but you two just had to show up now. Well, that means two more corpses.”
Song Kai frowned.
Qin Liang pointed at Ma Weifeng, “You murder, raise ghosts, and think you can just end it! What do you take the people’s police for!”
“Heh heh heh… Where were you when, years ago, those three—Luo Dahai among them—swindled my family fortune of millions? Where were you when I petitioned everywhere, received threats and assassination attempts? When my wife and son, all five of my family, died horribly—where were you then! Heh heh heh… To escape pursuit, I slashed my own face three times, swallowed charcoal to ruin my voice, tore off all ten of my fingerprints with my own hands. All for today! Blood for blood! Do you understand?”
As Ma Weifeng spoke, he slowly opened up the incinerator, kneeling before it. “My Ma family has been exorcists for generations, with some ties to the Ma clan of Xiangxi corpse-walkers, but that connection ended long ago. I use exorcism techniques for this, betraying my ancestors, betraying the founder, but… I must be true to my family! You two, die with them!”
Ma Weifeng pressed a button.
From the furnace, countless wraiths suddenly burst forth, rushing toward Song Kai and Qin Liang.
Song Kai grabbed a steel rod and hurled it at Ma Weifeng.
At that moment, a little girl appeared out of nowhere, knocking Song Kai’s hand aside.
The rod flew off into the distance.
Ma Weifeng muttered, as he tossed the three corpses into the furnace.
Song Kai retreated.
Qin Liang, seeing the swarm of spirits, collapsed to the ground with a thud.
“Damn!” Song Kai was frustrated—bringing along this burden was clearly a mistake.
The little girl in white, Yuanyuan, stared at Song Kai. The spirits around were howling in rage, then lunged at him.
Song Kai frowned, then realized—the incinerator had been tampered with by Ma Weifeng!
This bastard had imprisoned all the souls of the dead in the furnace, preventing them from dissipating or reincarnating, turning them into tools for his vengeance!
Yuanyuan, her entire body covered in eyes, charged at Song Kai.
Song Kai didn’t dare be careless. Holding Qin Liang with one hand, wielding the peach wood sword with the other, he fended off the ghosts.
“Damn, I underestimated this!” Song Kai was anxious—he hadn’t anticipated so many spirits! Though they were ordinary, being held for so long had filled them with resentment.
And with Yuanyuan, the fierce ghost, it was very difficult.
Looks like, even if he survives, he’ll be gravely ill after this.
Song Kai glanced at Ma Weifeng—now, his only hope was to kill the ghost master.
As he hesitated, suddenly a frail and crazed figure burst through the ghostly haze and lunged at Ma Weifeng.
It was Granny Sun.
Ma Weifeng shouted, “What are you doing, you crazy woman, let go of me!”
“You harmed my daughter, I’ll fight you to the death!” Granny Sun clung to Ma Weifeng, and the two rolled into the incinerator.
Inside, the flames soared instantly, and both were reduced to nothing but ashes…
