Chapter 059: Master of the Sacred Ruins, Aren't You Just Trying to Woo My Daughter?
At noon, Song Kai went to the cafeteria for lunch with Liu Miaoyu and Zhou Ran. Just as they entered, they ran into Chen Haijun and his friends, who were noisily heading out.
“Hey, Jun, look, that kid Song Kai is here again.”
“Damn, he really is surrounded by beautiful girls. Wasn’t he skipping classes before?”
“We’re here suffering at school, and he’s here enjoying himself. No comparison. Jun, should we find another chance to mess with him...?”
“That’s enough!” A flash of pain crossed Chen Haijun’s face as he sighed, “Let’s just go back. He’s not someone we can afford to provoke.”
Chen Haijun had truly admitted defeat; the desire to fight was gone.
Song Kai sat eating, while Zhou Ran, holding her phone, cursed angrily, “That damn scammer, still dares to message me...”
“What happened?” Liu Miaoyu asked.
Song Kai grinned, “This morning, a handsome guy rescued Zhou Ran—she thought she’d met her prince charming. Turns out, he was a fraud; the thugs were hired to put on a show.”
Liu Miaoyu laughed as well.
Zhou Ran slammed her phone on the table. “What are you two laughing at? Misfortune really makes you happy, huh?”
That afternoon, the class was busy filling out college entrance exam registration forms and taking fingerprint scans. There was just over a month left until the exams, and everyone was tense—except Song Kai.
Zhou Ran had grown fond of resting her legs on Song Kai’s lap, making him give her massages.
Even though Song Kai always took the opportunity to touch her legs, she chose to ignore it as long as no one could see.
“After school, are you going to Liu Miaoyu’s house?” Zhou Ran asked, working on a math test.
“Yeah, more precisely, to her bedroom—to catch a ghost,” Song Kai replied seriously.
“Her bedroom?” Zhou Ran jerked, and her soft, pale foot accidentally landed right on Song Kai’s sensitive spot.
She didn’t notice, her expression turning to one of admiration. “Song Kai, you’re something else! With just your mouth and a couple of talismans, you’ve talked your way into Liu Miaoyu’s boudoir? Impressive!”
“You’re impressive too,” Song Kai retorted.
“What’s so impressive about me?”
“Your foot almost ensured I’d have no descendants. Isn’t that impressive?”
Zhou Ran paused, then realized something was off. That spot was hard as steel, digging into her sole like a dagger.
Before she could say anything, Song Kai muttered, “Such a delinquent. No wonder you wear shorts every day, flaunting yourself. Makes me wonder why your dad never taught you a lesson.”
Furious, Zhou Ran glared. Song Kai, that bastard, was the pervert, yet he was blaming her first!
“Do you have a death wish?” Zhou Ran gave a hard kick.
Song Kai, now terrified, quickly surrendered. “I was just kidding. Your beautiful legs deserve to be shown off, otherwise it’d be a waste.”
Zhou Ran snorted, but then felt something amiss. Her toes kept touching Song Kai there—maybe she was a bit of a pervert too.
Still, it was kind of fun.
She wiggled her toes twice more, shot Song Kai a glare, then went back to her test.
Song Kai endured it.
The future of the Song family was at stake; he had no choice. If Zhou Ran got angry and used a bit of force, he’d be doomed.
After school, Song Kai slung his bag over his shoulder and called Liu Miaoyu to leave together.
Seeing Song Kai’s confidence, Liu Miaoyu felt reassured and called her father.
“Dad, Song Kai’s here today, and he said... Oh? Okay, I understand… Yes, all right.”
She hung up and looked at Song Kai. “My dad seems to have found an old Taoist priest. They’ve already started.”
“Really? Let’s go have a look.”
The two hurried toward Liu Miaoyu’s villa.
Inside the courtyard, an elderly man in a yellow robe had set up an incense burner, lit incense, and was invoking the Three Pure Ones. The whole house was filled with the scent of burning incense.
Besides the Taoist priest, there were two assistants in black suits, holding ritual items, standing solemnly to the side.
Liu Zhishan stood at the door. When he saw Song Kai and Liu Miaoyu approaching, he quickly came over.
“You’re here. Song Kai, it’s not that I don’t trust you, it’s just...” Liu Zhishan didn’t treat Song Kai as a child and immediately began to explain himself.
Though Liu Zhishan was reckless and had a fiery temper, he was a man of his word. He’d promised to wait for Song Kai to handle things, but now that he’d called in another Taoist, he felt embarrassed.
Song Kai smiled, “Uncle Liu, don’t worry about it. As long as the ghost is dealt with, that’s all that matters.”
Liu Zhishan breathed a sigh of relief and clapped Song Kai on the shoulder. “Well said, Song Kai. I like a kid with your generous heart. But if you ever hold my daughter’s hand again, I’ll make a eunuch out of you!”
Both Song Kai and Liu Miaoyu jumped in shock. Only then did Liu Miaoyu realize she was still holding Song Kai’s hand.
She quickly let go and shot her father a glare. “Dad, I was just scared… By the way, where did you find this Taoist?”
“Daoist Sage Ruins is no one I can invite on my own. He’s a grandmaster from Hong Kong. Back during the Cultural Revolution, many skilled Taoists perished in the labor camps; others fled to Hong Kong. Sage Ruins’ master was a famous Taoist back then. One of my old comrades told me Sage Ruins was in Tengyun City, so I specially invited him,” Liu Zhishan explained.
If even Liu Zhishan found him hard to invite, he must be remarkable.
Song Kai glanced at the old man, surprise flickering in his eyes. “He’s got a lot of flair, but he really is skilled—definitely better than me. Uncle Liu, there’s nothing to worry about. We can just wait and see.”
Liu Zhishan grinned. “Now I’m even more at ease. Sage Ruins truly lives up to his reputation.”
The three stood by.
Daoist Sage Ruins made a few preparations, then with a grand sweep of his robe, looked every bit the immortal. He held a bagua compass in one hand, a peach-wood sword on his back, and yellow talismans in his pouch. “Come with me,” he said.
“Huh?” Liu Zhishan looked at him. “We… go in too?”
“Of course! When I perform rituals, the owners must witness it with their own eyes. I’m no charlatan. Don’t worry, I can protect you.”
“Alright, then.” Liu Zhishan entered first.
“Your daughter, too,” Sage Ruins added. “It’s her room, after all. I’ll repeat: with me here, you’re perfectly safe.”
Liu Zhishan nodded, then pushed Liu Miaoyu toward Song Kai. “You two, come in with me.”
Though unhappy about his daughter being so close to a boy, at a time like this, Liu Zhishan trusted Song Kai. He knew that if anything went wrong, Song Kai could protect his daughter.
Song Kai, still carrying his bag, walked in with Liu Miaoyu.
Sage Ruins glanced at Song Kai, saw only a high schooler, and asked no further questions. He led the three into the bedroom.
The room was icy cold!
It was over twenty degrees outside, but this room felt like an ice cellar.
Even a burly man like Liu Zhishan was frightened.
“Evil spirit! In broad daylight, how dare you plague the world? Show yourself!” Sage Ruins held up his peach-wood sword, his voice righteous and commanding.
There was no response from the room.
Sage Ruins grabbed a handful of talismans from his pouch and tossed them into the room, then swiftly formed a series of mudras with his fingers.
Instantly, the talismans in the air burst into fierce flames.
The display left Liu Zhishan utterly convinced.
Even Song Kai was stunned.
Clearly, Sage Ruins was truly skilled—he had genuine Daoist inner energy, and his ghost-catching methods were well practiced! Although these techniques were considered rudimentary back in the Yuan Dynasty, in this day and age, anyone who could do this was a true master—certainly more accomplished than Song Kai at present.
As the talismans burned, the room grew warm, even hot.
Suddenly, a dark shadow shot out from the corner—a misty, smoke-like female figure with disheveled hair, wailing in agony.
The ghostly shriek was unbearable!
Liu Miaoyu dove into Song Kai’s arms in terror.
Even Liu Zhishan clutched his ears in pain.
“A vengeful ghost who died by hanging—no wonder her resentment is so strong!” Sage Ruins drew his peach-wood sword. With a flash, he stabbed straight into the ghost woman’s chest.
The fierce ghost dissolved into black smoke, vanishing completely amid the burning talismans.
The room’s temperature returned to normal.
“It’s done. All finished!” Sage Ruins picked up his sword, proud as could be, and strode out.
Liu Zhishan applauded; he was thoroughly awed.
He saw Sage Ruins out and handed him a bank card. Sage Ruins waved it off, and a disciple accepted it instead.
Sage Ruins said, “Someone must sleep in this room tonight, or else unclean things will be attracted again. I’ve just expelled a fierce ghost—if the room stays empty, it’ll draw snakes or centipedes. People bring vitality; with someone here, there’ll be no more trouble.”
“Yes, yes, we’ll do as you say!” Liu Zhishan replied.
After sending Sage Ruins off, Liu Zhishan muttered, “A real master… Xiao Yu, you can relax now. The priest said you should sleep here tonight, I’ll sleep here too, and I’ll bring a few strong men to add more yang energy… Hey, Song Kai, what are you doing here? Go home for dinner. It’s late—you’re not allowed to see Xiao Yu.”
“Dad!”
Liu Miaoyu glared at Liu Zhishan, cheeks puffed in annoyance.
Song Kai was helpless. “Uncle Liu, you’re here watching—I can’t do anything, so what are you worried about? Come on, Liu Miaoyu, I’ll help clear out any lingering yin energy from your room.”
“Alright.”
The two headed back into the bedroom.
Liu Zhishan grumbled, “Kid, don’t think I don’t know what you’re after. You just want to hook up with my daughter! Hmph, I was young once too!”
Inside, Song Kai helped Liu Miaoyu make the bed. “Your dad really keeps a close eye on you. That actually makes me feel relieved.”
“Relieved about what?” she asked.
“This way, you won’t be lured away by some other guy,” Song Kai said.
“Shut up! Come here and help me with the blanket,” Liu Miaoyu pouted.
Song Kai walked over and was about to pull the blanket when he suddenly froze.
There, on the bed frame, a black hole—a nail hole—made his heart pound wildly...
