Chapter 001: A Drunken Woman Is Surely a Plot
"...Please... don't do this..."
A clear, sweet voice rang out beside his ear.
Song Kai abruptly opened his eyes, staring in disbelief at the scene before him.
Beside him lay a stunningly beautiful woman, her eyes closed, her cheeks flushed a delicate red—clearly, she was utterly intoxicated.
And at this very moment, he was sitting right next to her.
What the—!
What on earth was happening!
He had been secluded in a mountain temple for over twenty years—how had he suddenly encountered such an unexpected stroke of fortune?
Song Kai was utterly bewildered. He swallowed hard, and suddenly, a torrent of inexplicable information flooded his mind.
Clutching his head, he was bombarded by a cascade of memories: Song Kai, a senior high school student in Qilu Province, Huaxia; bankruptcy; missing parents...
With a deep breath, Song Kai opened his eyes once more. This time, he finally understood—he had, indeed, died. He was once a Taoist priest of the Quanzhen Sect during the Yuan Dynasty, but while cultivating the Nine Thunders Internal Energy, he suffered a qi deviation, his lower dantian exploded, and thus, his life ended.
However, perhaps owing to the profound mystery of the Nine Thunders Internal Energy, though his body was destroyed, his soul traversed seven hundred years and attached itself to this young man, Song Kai.
The two streams of memory fused swiftly, and Song Kai soon made sense of everything.
Earlier that evening, after school, Zhang Gang had dragged him out drinking. They’d had a bit too much, and as they left the bar, they saw a woman retching against the wall.
Egged on by Zhang Gang, he had carried the woman into this hotel. Then, just as the effects of the alcohol emboldened him to act, he lost consciousness—and the next thing, his soul had merged, bringing about this bizarre situation.
Who was this woman? There was more to her current state than just drunkenness.
As he pondered, a sudden pounding came from the door, followed by a shout: "Police! Routine check, open up! Hurry!"
The sound snapped Song Kai to his senses.
A drugged woman at the bar entrance, his own drunken state, now the police doing a room check... If the reporters were outside as well, then tomorrow he and this woman would be headline news. As for his reputation—well, he didn’t have much to speak of—but if his fiancée, Xu Ling, found out, she’d most likely break off their engagement on the spot.
All of this... felt like a setup.
Yes! An absolute setup!
Song Kai immediately got up and surveyed the room. The only place big enough to hide someone was the wardrobe, but that was hardly secure.
He glanced at the woman on the bed, knowing this was no time to enjoy any such company.
Approaching her, he struck her neck with a precise chop, rendering her unconscious. Working quickly, he wrapped her tightly in the bedsheet, then lifted her up, opened the window, and hung her from the drainpipe just below.
They were on the sixth floor—if she fell, she’d be dead for sure, so Song Kai made sure she was secured tightly.
The knocking grew more urgent, and with a click, the door swung open—one of the hotel staff had used a card to unlock it.
Three uniformed police officers burst in, followed by two reporters with cameras and a female attendant trailing behind.
The officers swept the room with their flashlights, then flicked on the overhead light.
Song Kai sat on the bed, rubbing his eyes. "Hey! What do you think you’re doing?"
"Routine check," one officer replied, glancing at Song Kai before quickly heading into the bathroom. He checked thoroughly, then pulled open the wardrobe doors, searching every corner.
Song Kai feigned just waking up, but from the way the officer acted, he understood immediately—this cop was definitely out to catch him. He was certain there was a woman here, which explained the thorough search.
Li Tianhu frowned, muttering to himself—what was going on? Zhang Gang had said there was a woman in this room, but all he saw was this idiot, Song Kai, sleeping.
Song Kai clutched the blanket around himself and grumbled, "Hey! What exactly do you want? It’s the middle of the night—can’t a guy get some sleep? Routine check—what nonsense!"
Li Tianhu snorted, "It’s for your own safety! Team, move out—next room!"
With that, Li Tianhu left the room, still puzzled.
By now, Song Kai was certain—this was a conspiracy against him. No, perhaps it was a plot against the girl hanging outside the window as well.
Otherwise, how could it be such a coincidence? Zhang Gang had gotten him drunk, and as they left the bar, they’d just happened to run into an unconscious woman. If his soul hadn’t crossed over and merged at that moment, the police would have caught him and the woman in the act.
Moreover, the woman’s identity seemed suspect as well.
Lost in thought, Song Kai hurried to the window, pulled the woman back up, and laid her safely on the bed once more.
