Chapter 28: Is This Woman So Insincere?
“What the hell...” Xie Xu’s voice sounded as if he had swallowed a stick of dynamite. “Do you really think I wanted you to change seats for my own sake? If your mom hadn’t asked me to look out for you at school, do you think I’d bother embarrassing myself by asking you to switch? Why can’t you appreciate anything? Damn it, forget it. Anyway, I only did it because your mom made me an amazing meal. If you don’t appreciate it, whatever.”
Seriously.
Although her mother’s cooking was indeed superb, Xie Xu’s words were too obviously a lie. “Only because your mom made me a good meal”—anyone could tell that was just an excuse. Still, her mom had indeed asked Xie Xu to look out for her at school, but Lu Yiqi had never taken it to heart. As long as Xie Xu didn’t bully her, she’d already consider herself lucky. She had never actually expected him to take care of her.
But as it turned out, Xie Xu had really asked her to change seats for her own good.
Besides, sitting in the back row was a perfect spot for napping! Now she could doze off during math class without worry. With Xie Xu, the king of sleepers, right beside her, even if the math teacher wanted to pick someone to answer a question, he’d definitely pick Xie Xu first!
The more she thought about it, the more advantages there seemed to be in switching seats.
Lu Yiqi accepted it with delight.
But hadn’t she just made Xie Xu angry? Should she apologize to him now?
Seeing how annoyed Xie Xu looked, Lu Yiqi thought it was necessary to apologize.
She poked him. “I’m sorry.”
Xie Xu turned his head away, ignoring her.
Now she wanted to apologize? Too late.
And besides, did he look like someone who could be appeased with a single apology? Was he really that easy to please? Impossible!
He was determined to leave Lu Yiqi hanging today; he would not forgive her!
She needed to know the consequences of making him angry!
Lu Yiqi poked him again. “Xie Xu?”
Without missing a beat, Xie Xu replied coolly, “Not here!”
“...”
“You’re really not going to talk to me?” Lu Yiqi tilted her head and asked.
Of course not!
Xie Xu managed to keep up his pride for maybe half a minute before he couldn’t help peeking over at Lu Yiqi. He saw her with a pen in hand, scribbling away in her notebook, entirely ignoring him.
Was this all she could muster? He was angry, and she only tried to make up for it for a couple of minutes, then gave up?
Was she angry too?
No way, right?
Damn it, how could she be angry when he hadn’t even cooled down yet?
Women were so troublesome.
There was no way he was going to apologize to her. Absolutely not!
Just then, the bell rang, and the math teacher entered to start the lesson.
Xie Xu was completely distracted for the entire class, so much so that he didn’t even take his usual nap. Every now and then, he glanced forward, and every time he did, Lu Yiqi was busily writing something, though it definitely wasn’t equations.
Finally, the class ended. After some hesitation, Xie Xu decided to call out to Lu Yiqi and see how she would react.
But before he could even say her name, Lu Yiqi turned around, her eyes curved in a cheerful smile. She tore out the page she’d been writing on and handed it over to him.
Damn, what was this?
Could this be what she’d been writing all class?
Xie Xu’s Adam’s apple bobbed nervously, a few beads of sweat forming on his forehead. Shit, was this a love letter?
He reached out and picked up the piece of paper.
Perhaps even he didn’t notice his hand trembling ever so slightly as he did so.
What the hell was with this nervousness?
His gaze fell on the page...
