Chapter 80: I Have Fallen for Him
He casually grabbed a notebook, picked up a pen, and began writing. When he finished, he slid the notebook onto Lu Yiqi’s desk.
[Will you walk home with me this afternoon?]
After a while, Lu Yiqi pushed the notebook back.
[What about Brother Yan Yi? Will he go home alone?]
Xie Xu wrote a simple “yes.”
When the notebook returned to Xie Xu’s hands, a few more words had appeared.
[Is that really okay?]
Okay? Why wouldn’t it be?
Xie Xu paused, holding his pen mid-air, then resumed writing after a moment.
[There’s a new dessert shop on Yanhe Road. Their little cakes are amazing.]
[Deal!]
Staring at the word “deal,” Xie Xu couldn’t help but curve his lips in a pleased smile.
…
That afternoon, Xie Xu mingled nonchalantly into Yan Yi and Lu Yiqi’s group.
Yan Yi’s car was waiting at the school gate.
Yan Yi and Lu Yiqi chatted sporadically, and, for once, Xie Xu didn’t try to butt in.
“Get in,” Yan Yi said to Lu Yiqi.
Lu Yiqi glanced at Yan Yi, then at Xie Xu.
Xie Xu smiled at her, squeezing out two words from between his teeth: “Yanhe Road.”
It was a reminder.
As soon as Lu Yiqi caught on, she didn’t hesitate. “Brother Yan Yi, Xie Xu and I have something to do this afternoon. Why don’t you go ahead without us?”
“What is it? I can wait for you.”
“No need, really. We’ll be fine on our own. You head back.”
“…Alright.”
After bidding Yan Yi goodbye, Lu Yiqi turned to go, and Xie Xu waved at Yan Yi as well, raising his brows in triumph while Lu Yiqi wasn’t looking, a victorious smile on his face. “Bye!”
Yan Yi, speechless, could only swallow his annoyance and maintain his composure as his car sped away.
Lu Yiqi immediately turned around, “Let’s go.”
“Sure.”
The two walked side by side, their shadows stretched long in the golden glow of the setting sun.
After about ten minutes, they reached the shop Xie Xu had mentioned.
It must have been newly opened, because there were quite a few people there to check it out.
Xie Xu led Lu Yiqi inside. “Pick whatever you like; it’s on me.”
Faced with sweets, Lu Yiqi’s self-control vanished. “Thank you, brother!”
Xie Xu leaned against the glass door at the entrance, quietly watching Lu Yiqi choose her treats.
His good looks quickly attracted the attention of many girls in the shop. They snuck glances at this incredibly handsome guy, and those who recognized him even whispered to their friends about who he was.
Suddenly, a quarrel broke out between a boy and a girl inside the shop.
“What’s your problem? Let go, will you?” the girl snapped at the boy.
But the boy held tight. “No, not unless you give me a reason.”
“What’s wrong with you? It’s just a breakup. Why do you have to know why? I just don’t like you anymore, alright?”
The boy protested, “But we’ve only been together three days! How can you just stop liking me? Tell me what I did wrong, and I’ll change, okay?”
“No need.” The girl’s tone was firm. “You want a reason? Fine, I’ll give you one.”
Her gaze swept the dessert shop and finally landed on Xie Xu.
Her eyes seemed to shine as she strode over to Xie Xu, grabbed his arm while he wasn’t paying attention, and called to the boy, “You’re not as handsome as he is. I’ve fallen for him. He’s my next boyfriend.”
The boy was dumbfounded.
Xie Xu glanced down at the hand on his arm and quickly shook her off. “Are you out of your mind?”
