Chapter 31: Every Cause Has Its Effect
After watering the plants, Lu Yiqi looked up and saw Xie Xu. She rolled her eyes at him from across the distance, not caring whether he could see or not, then slammed the window shut in a fit of irritation.
Xie Xu watched Lu Yiqi’s seamless sequence of actions and couldn’t help but laugh. Returning to his chair, he glanced at the math book lying on his desk, opened it, and pulled out the sheet of paper tucked inside. He picked it up and studied it carefully three times.
He couldn’t help but think: Even a pig knows to write an apology letter to make amends—should he apologize to her, too? The thought had barely surfaced before Xie Xu crushed it. How could he? When had Master Xu ever apologized to anyone?
But... thinking of that little pig getting angry—when she got angry, she’d ignore him, and if she ignored him, he’d be bored. Bullying Lu Yiqi was the only fun he’d managed to find in his life, and if she got angry, he’d lose the sole pleasure he had.
Xie Xu frowned in frustration. His gaze fell on his phone, and inspiration struck. He decided to first gather some intel on the “enemy.”
He found Lu Yiqi’s WeChat and sent her a “Are you there?” message. When the message went through, Xie Xu breathed a sigh of relief—thank goodness, she hadn’t blocked him yet. What did that mean? It probably meant she wasn’t that angry anymore.
Soon, Lu Yiqi replied.
Lu Yiqi: If nothing unexpected happens, I’ll be here for the next few decades.
Xie Xu was momentarily speechless. Wasn’t that the line he’d used to corner her before? Now she was using it to corner him. Tsk, what was the saying again? “Every cause has its effect; your retribution is me.” Xie Xu thought his retribution was probably Lu Yiqi. Funny enough, it felt rather intriguing.
Lu Yiqi: What do you want?
Xie Xu clicked his tongue. This familiar attitude… Wasn’t that just like him, back then? He tapped the keyboard with conflicted feelings.
Xu: I do have something to say.
Lu Yiqi: Say what you have to say, and don’t waste my time.
When these words popped up on the screen, Xie Xu took a deep breath, reminding himself over and over: Don’t lose your temper. Impulsiveness is the devil.
After quelling the urge within, he slowly typed a few words.
Xu: Are you there? Can we make peace?
Not long after Lu Yiqi shut the window, her phone chimed. Xie Xu had sent her a “Are you there?” message. Her first reaction was: Damn, I forgot to block him on WeChat.
Just as she was about to block him, she suddenly remembered she’d once asked Xie Xu the same question. So, she decisively replied with the same words Xie Xu had used on her before. After sending it, she felt a little better.
Soon after, Xie Xu sent another message: “Are you there? Can we make peace?”
Lu Yiqi stared at the four words, secretly thinking: Make peace? Impossible! Keep dreaming.
She exited the chat, found Xie Xu in her contacts, tapped the three dots at the top right, and added him to her blacklist.
Ah, now she felt much better.
After sending the message, Xie Xu stared at the screen, waiting for Lu Yiqi’s reply.
A minute passed, and she hadn’t responded. He waited patiently, thinking she might be considering whether to reconcile with him—after all, women tend to be indecisive.
Three minutes after the message, still no reply. Xie Xu took a deep breath, guessing maybe she had something urgent to do.
Ten minutes later, with no new messages, Xie Xu seriously suspected this woman had finally blocked him.
