Chapter 45: Meddling in Other People's Affairs
During this class, Lu Yiqi was restless, her gaze fixed on the back of Yan Yi’s head. She couldn't help but wonder: Why did Brother Yan Yi come to study at my school without telling me?
She barely made it through until the bell rang. Just as Lu Yiqi was about to call out to him, Yan Yi turned around first.
He was sitting diagonally in front of her to the left, so to speak to him, she had to lean closer to Xie Xu’s side.
Xie Xu was busy playing a game when he suddenly sensed something moving toward him. Glancing down, he caught sight of Lu Yiqi’s delicate pink ear, which sent a flutter through his heart. Forcing himself to focus on his game, he pricked up his own ears, trying to catch their conversation.
“Brother Yan Yi, why didn’t you tell me in advance you were coming to our class?” Lu Yiqi asked.
Brother Yan Yi? Brother, my foot. What’s with all this ‘brother’ nonsense? We’re all in our second year of high school—why the need for such an honorific? Can’t she just use his name?
The thought agitated Xie Xu so much that he nearly lost control of his AK in the game.
Yan Yi gave Lu Yiqi a gentle smile. “If I told you beforehand, it wouldn’t have been a surprise, would it?”
“Oh, right,” Lu Yiqi nodded, suddenly recalling that Yan Yi used to live right across from her, so visiting him was always easy. But ever since she moved to N City, her neighbor had become Xie Xu, and she had no idea where Yan Yi was staying now. “Then, Brother Yan Yi, where are you living?”
Yan Yi was about to say that his manager would probably arrange a hotel for him—after all, he wasn’t in N City all the time, since he had work commitments. But before he could speak, he felt a burning gaze on him.
Following the source, he saw Xie Xu glaring at him, hostility and aggression clear in his eyes.
Yan Yi raised an eyebrow, as if he'd just stumbled upon something interesting. He thought of how Xie Xu had refused to switch seats with him earlier.
Changing his tone, Yan Yi replied, “I haven’t found a place yet. You know how picky I am about living environments, and since I’m an artist—even though I’m still in school—I can’t be in N City all the time. Buying a house seems a bit of a waste…”
His words were loaded with implication; Xie Xu picked up on it, but Lu Yiqi did not.
She simply thought Yan Yi’s life sounded awfully exhausting. With genuine enthusiasm, she offered, “Brother Yan Yi! If you don’t mind, why don’t you stay at my place? We have plenty of empty rooms—you can choose whichever you like! They’re just sitting there anyway. And in N City, it’s not easy to buy a good place, and even if you find one, it takes forever to settle in. It’s such a hassle. But if you stay at my house, it’ll be so much more convenient.”
Xie Xu was stunned. His pupils contracted, and in his distraction, he accidentally hit the accelerate key. Not watching the screen, his car crashed straight into a tree and exploded on the spot.
Damn.
Xie Xu couldn’t even care that he’d lost the game. He was too agitated. Was Lu Yiqi stupid? Inviting a boy to live at her house? Was she really that naïve?
And as for Yan Yi, if he agreed, he was nothing but a freeloader! A so-called superstar—so poor he couldn’t even afford a house? That was an obvious lie! Only Lu Yiqi, that blockhead, would believe it.
Madness.
Xie Xu wanted so badly to expose Yan Yi right then and there. But he hesitated: what if Lu Yiqi believed Yan Yi over him? And besides, what right did he have to interfere?
Tch.
Xie Xu cursed himself internally for meddling.
The next second, Yan Yi’s voice drifted into Xie Xu’s ears: “Alright, that would be very helpful. Thank you.”
Xie Xu was shocked. He actually agreed? Only a pretty boy who lived off women would do that!
