Chapter 50: The One I Like

"???" Lu Yiqi looked at him, unsure of what he was up to.
Xie Xu blinked, then suddenly said, "You should hand in your homework now."
"Oh..." Lu Yiqi began searching for her homework.
Xie Xu stared at her, seemingly casual and nonchalant, and asked, "How did your tutoring session go yesterday... with Yan Yi?"
"It went great."
"...Oh."
Oh, he was definitely not small, pitiful, or helpless!
By then, Lu Yiqi had found her homework notebook. She stood up, intending to take it to the teacher's desk, when Xie Xu abruptly rose. "Should I hand it in for you?"
???
"You're... being unusually kind today," she scrutinized Xie Xu. "Did something good happen?"
Before Xie Xu could respond, Lu Yiqi guessed, "Could it be, you've met a girl you like?"
The moment she said that, the first person to pop into Xie Xu's mind was Lu Yiqi.
???
!!!
What nonsense was he thinking!
Xie Xu quickly denied it, "I have not!"
Lu Yiqi, seeing his reaction, patted Xie Xu's shoulder knowingly. "Alright, alright."

I won't expose you, so what's with the fuss?
Lu Yiqi handed her homework to Xie Xu. "Then I'll trouble my desk mate."
Xie Xu took it, and had barely walked two steps when Lu Yiqi cheered him on from behind, "Go for it, go for it, you'll succeed!"
Succeed at what, for heaven's sake!
He'd said clearly that he didn't like anyone!
Xie Xu paused, Lu Yiqi's face resurfacing in his mind. He pressed his lips together, forcibly banishing her image, then strode forward.
His ears, however, quietly flushed red along the way.
When he reached the teacher's desk, he noticed the notebook on top wasn't his own. He flipped through the pile and found his homework had been pushed to the back. He pulled it out and placed it above Lu Yiqi's notebook.
Hmm, much better now.
Satisfied, he returned to his seat.
Only to see Lu Yiqi sneak up to him, looking curious. "What kind of girl do you like?"
If she weren't so timid, Lu Yiqi would have boldly asked, "Who's the girl you like? Is she from our school? Which class? What's her name? Is she pretty?"
But she didn't dare.
Xie Xu's well-defined Adam's apple bobbed nervously. "Why do you want to know?"
Could it be... she wanted to find out what kind of girl he liked so she could pursue him?
"It’s... definitely not you!"
"...I never said you liked me, brother."

Xie Xu glared at Lu Yiqi. "You are not allowed to have any improper thoughts about me!"
Lu Yiqi: "......"
What on earth was this? How did it turn into her supposedly having improper thoughts about him?
She was simply curious about the type of girl he liked.
Lu Yiqi defended herself, "Which eye of yours saw me having improper thoughts about you?"
"I..." Xie Xu stammered, "Good, as long as you don’t!"
Crazy—if he wouldn't tell her who that girl was, fine, but why change the subject and say something so absurd?
The two turned away from each other, neither acknowledging the other.
Eventually, Xie Xu couldn't stand the silence and poked Lu Yiqi.
Lu Yiqi turned back irritably, "What?"
"After Yan Yi leaves, who will tutor you on weekends?"
Lu Yiqi blinked, "Ziyi is still here."
"......"
Damn, he'd forgotten about Chen Ziyi.
