Gu Zifan found himself unable to fathom Xie Xu’s sudden anger. After all, he was confessing to Lu Yiqi, not Xie Xu—what reason did Xie Xu have to be upset? Unless... could it be that the famously cold and indifferent Xie Xu also harbored feelings for Lu Yiqi?

Gu Zifan felt as if he had stumbled upon a secret that might cost him his life at Xie Xu’s hands. He licked his dry lips, at a loss for words. Fear fluttered in his chest and he wanted nothing more than to escape, but when his eyes met Lu Yiqi’s face, he pressed his lips together in resolve.

He truly liked Lu Yiqi; surely, pursuing his true love was not too much to ask. At worst, they could compete fairly for her affection—there was no shame in losing to Xie Xu.

With this thought, Gu Zifan straightened his back, confidence returning. Yan Yi watched the three of them in silence, his presence scarcely noticeable, almost as if he were invisible.

Suddenly, Gu Zifan took out his phone. “Lu Yiqi, may I add you on WeChat?”

Before Lu Yiqi could answer, Xie Xu cut in sharply, “No, you may not!”

Both Lu Yiqi and Gu Zifan were taken aback. The next moment, Xie Xu realized he’d overreacted; even he was momentarily stunned, uncertain how to recover from his outburst.

So, not knowing how to back down, he decided to press on. Before either Lu Yiqi or Gu Zifan could respond, Xie Xu declared, “Didn’t I make myself clear? This is my birthday party. If you want to make confessions or talk about romance, pick another time and place—don’t do it in front of me and burn my eyes. I’m still single, you know! If you think you can find love in front of me, forget it!”

He sounded so righteous and dignified.

Lu Yiqi couldn’t help laughing; Gu Zifan, on the other hand, was utterly bewildered.

Lu Yiqi thought to herself: Is this man perhaps a fool?

Gu Zifan wondered: Is Young Master Xie really this childish? To actually say something like “If you think you can find love in front of me, forget it!”—does that mean he should laugh now? But mocking Young Master Xie probably wasn’t wise. He still wanted to live.

Wanting to laugh but not daring to—that was the definition of inner conflict. Damn it, he couldn’t hold back.

Gu Zifan accidentally let out a chuckle and was immediately met with a glare as sharp as a dagger from Xie Xu.

Gu Zifan shivered.

He glanced at Lu Yiqi. She had gotten the answer she wanted and said, “If you want to add me on WeChat as a classmate, that’s fine. But if it’s because you want to pursue me, then I can’t. And don’t pretend it’s just as classmates, either. If I find out you’re flirting, I’ll block you.”

She spoke with the kindest tone, but her words were anything but friendly.

Xie Xu raised his eyebrows in approval. Well done—she should block this Gu Zifan just like she once blocked me! Men are all trouble! Except for me!

Gu Zifan was speechless.

He thought for a moment and said, “Lu Yiqi, I just want to add you as a classmate, nothing more. I promise I won’t bother you.”

Hearing him say that, Lu Yiqi had no choice but to accept his friend request.

Xie Xu watched her actions closely, his thoughts unreadable.

Once Gu Zifan had her contact, he left, thoroughly pleased. Not long after, Yan Yi received a phone call and made his departure as well.

Left alone, Xie Xu turned to Lu Yiqi. “Do you need to...?”

Lu Yiqi blinked. “Hmm? What?”

She didn’t understand.

He cleared his throat. “I mean, do you need to use the restroom?”

What kind of ridiculous question was that?

“No, I don’t.”

The next second, Xie Xu’s resolute voice rang in her ears: “I think you do!”
