Lu Yiqi hesitated only for a few seconds before making her choice. No way would she ever sit in the front row—she couldn't think of anything worse than having a teacher watch her every move up close.

She walked straight over and took the seat in front of the boy who looked like he had stepped out of a comic book.

Her new desk mate was a girl who looked quiet and gentle, radiating a soft, warm aura.

When the girl realized Lu Yiqi was now her desk mate, she gave her a bright smile.

Lu Yiqi felt as if her heart had been struck by this gentle young lady. In a friendly, low voice, she introduced herself, "Hi, I’m Lu Yiqi."

The girl smiled again, her voice as light as a breeze, "I know. You just introduced yourself on stage."

"Oh, right…"

The girl continued, "I’m Chen Ziyi, nice to meet you."

Chen Ziyi was fair-skinned, her voice gentle and sweet, habitually adding soft particles at the end of her sentences. She was both delicate and kind, making Lu Yiqi feel a sense of curiosity and freshness about her new school from the very first day.

After class, most of the students crowded around Lu Yiqi, eager to introduce themselves. Some were drawn over by the sudden appearance of a pretty girl in their class, eager to compliment her.

"Lu, my name is…"

"Lu Yiqi, I think you’re really beautiful."

"Lu, I’m Zhao Xin, the vice class leader of Year Two, Class One. If you ever need anything or have any questions, come to me. I’ll look after you."

Lu Yiqi hadn’t expected the class to be so welcoming, but she responded to each person with a smile.

Unbeknownst to her, all around the room, people were thinking: The new student is not only pretty, but has a great personality too.

At last, when the crowd dispersed, Lu Yiqi let out a sigh of relief. Suddenly remembering something, she turned to Chen Ziyi and asked, "Ziyi, I’ve met the vice class leader and the class academic rep, but who’s our class leader? Is it the person whose seat is empty in front of the podium?"

"Or…" Lu Yiqi ventured a bold guess, "could it be that I’m sitting in the class leader’s seat, and he just happened to be absent today? Oh no, I’ve taken the class leader’s seat…"

Lu Yiqi nearly wanted to cry. She thought to herself: Chen Ziyi is so pretty and gentle—how could she not have a desk mate? Is it too late for me to move to the front row?

Chen Ziyi laughed, amused by Lu Yiqi’s wild imagination. "Don’t worry, the class leader didn’t take the day off, and you’re not sitting in his seat either."

"Then who is the class leader?" Lu Yiqi asked.

Chen Ziyi turned and jerked her chin toward the seat behind them. "Right there, behind you."

The boy, suddenly addressed, looked up at the pair in front of him. "Did you need something?"

Chen Ziyi explained, "The new student wanted to meet our class leader, so I told her it’s you."

"Oh," the boy replied indifferently, his gaze settling on Lu Yiqi. "So you’re the new student…Lu Yiqi, right?"

"Let me introduce myself. I’m the class leader, Xie Xu."

Xie Xu?

Why did that name sound so familiar?

Where had she heard it before?

As Lu Yiqi blinked, trying hard to remember where she’d heard that name, Xie Xu’s calm voice sounded again.
