Chapter 51: An Angel
He shot Chen Ziyi a glare, and as luck would have it, Chen Ziyi just happened to turn around, and their eyes met. Xie Xu was stunned for a moment, then haughtily turned his head away with cold elegance.
Chen Ziyi was baffled. Had she offended the class monitor somehow? Why was he looking at her as if she were his sworn enemy? It made her feel uneasy.
During break, Lu Yiqi wanted to go to the restroom. “Ziyi, let’s go to the restroom together.”
A girl’s friendship often begins with “Let’s go to the restroom together.” That’s why best friends always go hand in hand to the restroom.
Chen Ziyi stood up and agreed readily. “Sure!”
But just then, Xie Xu’s chilly voice suddenly cut in. “Chen Ziyi.”
With a head full of question marks, Chen Ziyi responded instantly, “What is it? Please go ahead.”
Her attitude was poised and respectful, neither arrogant nor servile.
Lu Yiqi stared in stunned silence.
What kind of unexpected move was this?
Xie Xu slowly picked up the test paper on his desk. “There’s a question I’d like to ask you.”
Chen Ziyi glanced at his paper, which was completely blank.
You must be joking, right? The top student in the grade had a question for her?
“Could I trouble you to stay for a moment?”
Chen Ziyi was so confused she could only utter an “Ah?”
“So, Lu Yiqi, could you please go to the restroom by yourself?” Xie Xu continued.
Lu Yiqi was full of question marks.
Xie Xu gave her a standard, toothy smile.
Lu Yiqi could only concede defeat to that smile, turning away and storming out on her own.
Chen Ziyi, nervous, asked, “What’s the matter, class monitor?”
Xie Xu raised an eyebrow. “Just a small matter.”
She was sure it was anything but small.
“I’d like to make a little deal with you.”
…
On the weekend, as usual, Lu Yiqi was at home waiting for Chen Ziyi. Hearing the doorbell, she slipped on her bear slippers and hurried to open the door, her eyes crinkling into a smile. “You’re here, Ziy—”
But when she looked up and saw Xie Xu standing there, her smile froze and the rest of her words stalled on her lips.
“What are you doing here?”
The cheerful Lu Yiqi instantly turned cold.
Xie Xu was left speechless.
Women really could change their faces that quickly?
Should he keep up his domineering, aloof persona, or let it go?
Caught between being cold and not, Xie Xu finally spoke, a touch reserved, revealing his purpose for coming. “I’m here to tutor you.”
What on earth?
Had she been stood up by Chen Ziyi yet again?
He tui!
She didn’t have time to dwell on it; she quickly sent a message to Chen Ziyi.
Lu Yiqi: What’s going on, girl? Is your grandpa sick again?
Chen Ziyi: No, my grandpa’s already out of the hospital.
Lu Yiqi: Then why is Xie Xu showing up at my doorstep?
Chen Ziyi: Oh, the class monitor! Ahhh, let me tell you, the class monitor is so nice! I have a new idol now, and he’s holding a concert at the gym today, ahhh! The class monitor gave me a ticket so I could go!
Chen Ziyi: Then I remembered I was supposed to tutor you this weekend, and I was torn, but the class monitor said he’d tutor you for me. Ugh, isn’t he just an angel?!
Chen Ziyi: I can’t talk anymore! My idol is so handsome, ahhh!
Lu Yiqi stared blankly as the messages poured in, then looked over at Xie Xu.
She blinked.
Xie Xu blinked back.
Lu Yiqi stepped aside, gesturing politely for him to enter. “Please, come in.”
Xie Xu walked in with equal politeness.
All the while, Xie Xu couldn’t help but feel utterly bewildered by the whole situation.
