"By the way, if you have nothing to do, please don’t come to me. And if you do have something to do, well, still don’t come to me—just find the vice class president. That’s all, thank you."

Lu Yiqi was speechless.

Thank you? Thank you for what, exactly? As the class president, you actually tell your classmates not to come to you even if they have issues, and to go to the vice president instead? Where’s your sense of responsibility?

Wait a minute… Wasn’t it Vice President Zhao Xin who told me earlier that I could come to her if I needed anything? So, Xie Xu must have overheard that and said this on purpose?

Is this man really so petty?

No, I just got to this school. I should get along well with my classmates, avoid trouble, and always keep a smile on my face. Smile.

Lu Yiqi calmed her rattled nerves and replied, completely off-topic, “Alright, nice to meet you.”

Xie Xu said nothing. He truly couldn’t see what was so “nice” about it.

Chen Ziyi, witnessing the scene, nudged Lu Yiqi gently. “Alright, enough chatting. Class is about to start.”

Only then did Lu Yiqi turn around, obviously sulking, even letting out a faint “hmph.” It wasn’t very loud, but Xie Xu still happened to catch it. He stared at her back for a few seconds, and a subtle curve appeared at the corner of his mouth.

At that moment, Chen Ziyi leaned over to Lu Yiqi and whispered, “Don’t mind him. The class president always talks like that—he’s a bit sharp-tongued, but he’s actually a good guy.”

Seeing Chen Ziyi defending Xie Xu, Lu Yiqi couldn’t help but think to herself: Who cares if Xie Xu is a good guy or not? In my eyes, Chen Ziyi is the best and most gentle girl in the world!

The day’s classes passed quickly. By the end of the afternoon, the homeroom teacher found Lu Yiqi. “Lu Yiqi, I’ve picked up your new textbooks for you, but I need to supervise dismissal now. Could you go to my office and get them yourself? My office is out the door, turn right, and it’s the one at the end.”

“Okay.”

As Lu Yiqi left the classroom, the homeroom teacher thought for a moment and asked, “Is there anyone willing to help Lu Yiqi? The books are quite heavy—I’m worried she might not be able to carry them all by herself.”

As soon as she said that, ninety percent of the boys in the class raised their hands, and even a few of the stronger girls joined in.

The homeroom teacher had never seen her students so enthusiastic and was secretly surprised.

Just as she was about to randomly choose someone, Xie Xu stood up from his seat. “Teacher, I’ll go.”

The homeroom teacher nodded, feeling gratified. Even the usually aloof class president volunteered to help. It seemed Lu Yiqi was truly getting along well with her classmates.

Following the homeroom teacher’s instructions, Lu Yiqi found her office. She glanced around and spotted a stack of books on one of the desks.

That must be mine. She walked over, wrapped her arms around the bottom of the stack, and tried to lift them, but felt a resistance—she couldn’t get them up.

Someone was holding the books down.

She looked up and was met with a handsome face.

Surprised to see him, she asked, “Why are you here?”

Xie Xu shrugged. “The teacher asked me to come help. She was worried you couldn’t carry all these books by yourself.”

“It’s fine, really. I think I can manage on my own. If it’s too much, I could always make two trips—it’s not that far to the classroom anyway…”

Before she could finish her sentence, Xie Xu had already picked up the books and started for the door.

When he reached the doorway, he glanced back at Lu Yiqi, who was still standing there in a daze, and frowned. “Aren’t you coming?”

“Oh, right.” Lu Yiqi hurried after him.

“Don’t forget to close the door.”
