Chapter 81: The Ugly Are Prone to Mischief

Lu Yiqi had originally been focused on picking out items, but the commotion between the other two was so loud that it was almost impossible for her not to be distracted. She looked up after a moment and saw the girl walk over and grab Xie Xu.

“You’re not as handsome as he is. I’ve fallen for him—he’s going to be my next boyfriend.”

The words echoed loud and clear throughout the store.

Lu Yiqi frowned. In the next second, she saw Xie Xu coldly shake the woman off.

At that moment, Lu Yiqi felt an unexpected sense of satisfaction.

As soon as the thought crossed her mind, she was taken aback.

Why on earth should I feel pleased about this?!

After Xie Xu flung the girl aside, her eyes widened in disbelief, but she stubbornly tried again. “I look this good and you’re still rejecting me?”

Xie Xu glanced at her, a soft, derisive laugh escaping his lips. “Ugly people are always causing trouble…”

Fortunately, he spoke quietly enough that only the two of them heard.

In truth, the girl wasn’t ugly at all—she was actually quite attractive. But Xie Xu had no interest in her. Aside from a select few, all women looked hideous to him.

The girl was speechless.

She wanted to ask if he was blind, but ultimately, she was just trying to get rid of that other guy.

Lowering her voice, she pleaded, “Hey, handsome, could you do me a favor? I’ll make it worth your while later.”

“I’m not—” Xie Xu began, but before he could finish saying he wasn’t interested, the girl leaned in again.

“That girl at one o’clock—is she someone you like? Don’t worry, I’ll help explain everything to her later! Come on, please, just help me out.”

Xie Xu glanced at Lu Yiqi, then at the girl.

If she got this close to him and Lu Yiqi got jealous or reacted in some way, wouldn’t that prove she had feelings for him too?

With that in mind, Xie Xu fell silent.

Taking his silence as consent, the girl straightened her shoulders with newfound confidence and addressed the other guy, “See? He’s taller, more handsome, his voice is nicer, and his whole vibe is better than yours. Why would I ever like you? I’ve never liked you, okay?”

She drew out the words “never liked you,” making sure to emphasize each syllable.

The guy was furious but, after sizing up the situation, realized he truly couldn’t compare to Xie Xu. He pointed at the girl accusingly. “You’re so shallow—a total heartbreaker!”

With that, he stormed out of the shop.

The girl stuck her tongue out at his departing back in mockery.

After he left, she looked up at Xie Xu. “Thanks, handsome.”

Then she turned, her eyes landing casually on Lu Yiqi’s face as she walked over. “Hey there, beautiful.”

Lu Yiqi looked bewildered. “You’re talking to me?”

“That’s right.” The girl smiled. “Have you picked out what you want? Let me pay for it as a thank you for that handsome guy’s help.”

A thank you?

What was going on?

Lu Yiqi was completely confused.

The girl scooped up Lu Yiqi’s items and headed to the register. As she passed by, she whispered, “Your boyfriend is really handsome.”

Lu Yiqi was even more perplexed. “Boyfriend? Whose boyfriend?”

Everything was a blur. The girl picked up the bags and walked with Lu Yiqi over to Xie Xu.

The three of them found a quiet spot to sit.

The girl introduced herself first, “Hi, I’m Lin Huiran.”

Lu Yiqi quickly followed with her own name. Seeing this, Xie Xu coolly gave his as well.

Lu Yiqi spoke up, “By the way, what did you mean earlier by ‘boyfriend’? Whose boyfriend?”
